That sounds suspicious to me…
I have refrained from chiming in regarding my 20A ordering process primarily because of all the uncertainty around it. Like many of those that ended up getting orders confirmed, I placed my order with a (relatively) local dealer shortly after noon central time on Friday, February 10th.
My order is for a non-AEV 20A 392, and I got a VON immediately, but did not receive a VIN until 3/1. My dealer was great to work with and I spoke directly with the manager several times on the issue. I haven’t seen it mentioned in this discussion (although admittedly, this thread is now so long that I may have missed it), but my initial order included a Mopar security system option that initially was roughly $500, but apparently once the order was placed that option had to be removed.
Then about 2 weeks later (and still no VIN), I was told that I also couldn’t get the Sky One Touch option that I had initially ordered. I spoke with the sales manager directly (who was in repeated contact with Jeep corporate) and told them I that I preferred to have the SOT, but that it wasn’t a dealbreaker, so he submitted an email to a Jeep regional manager on Monday of this week stating I would take it with or without the SOT. The regional Jeep guy told my sales manager that Jeep had reached the maximum number of orders that they could accept with the SOT option (due to parts availability), which I found odd given that my order was placed within 15 minutes of the order banks being open.
Then out of nowhere on 3/1, I got a VIN texted to me by my dealer with a POC that listed both the VON and VIN (not to mention a price tag north of six figures) and a build status of D. Oddly enough, the SOT is on the order. The email from Jeep followed shortly thereafter.
Totally a convoluted process. I have a ‘21, 392 XR, so I wasn’t too worried about getting a 20A, but definitely a not-ready-for-primetime ordering system to say the least. I at least had the good fortune of working with a reputable dealer that was seemingly doing everything they could to get me the vehicle and doing so at MSRP.
