Ted392 Mods

Well the Durkee fire really put a damper on my offroading in the Elkhorns, Strawberry Mtns and other locales. Smoke is thick as .....
After a weekend I'm Boise for a family event, I made it to Ouray. Clear air here!

Ted are you having to burp those cans much? Thanks
Not at all. I filled them in Ouray at ~7600 feet. If you empty them in Ouray, you'll need to let air back at lower elevations to avoid them from sorta collapsing. 2nd year now where I did not need the extra gas. So next year I'll leave them home.

Thanks for the info👍

Awesome, I have been wanting to run Imogene and Black Bear since reading about them in 4 Wheel Drive magazine in high school. Headed there next month, can't wait! Hope we have light traffic like you did, interesting to hear about the gas. I am still learning the consumption on the 392. I have two 2 gallon roto pax and just made a mount to hold the 3 gallon armadillo bag across the back for a total of 7 gallons. Did you fill up at Telluride and Ouray?

Watch the bleeping Jeep video on black bear pass they went at the wrong time of year in my opinion . It’s not a difficult trail but you must pay attention people die on that road. It was nice and dry ( no rain ) when we went . Somebody went over the edge 2 days after we ran it. It’s a must see view. Tell us what think when you get back .

Be safe.

I have seen that video, crazy and happy that no one was hurt. We will be on the trails the end of September so it's a roll of the dice. I will be filming quite a bit as thats my job. Thanks for the heads up on the video!

We fill up every morning in Ouray and when we return, I always have more than half a tank left.

Suppose to rain most next week. Our weather was perfect, light wind, cool temps and great cloud to sun ratio.

Bring sun screen!

I read that if foam tape is placed on the bsm bracket of the oracle tail lights, it helps the bsm. So I did this and I when I can drive it, I'll update.

Hi @Ted392 Did the foam tape mod work for you? I have the same lights and my BSM stopped working, unless I'm towing or have a large/lifted vehicle next to me. I'm adding one 3mm piece of tape to each side - but looking for your input. It seems counter-intuitive to put the tape on the bottom of the sensor casing - but if it works - then it doesn't matter.

Since I installed these with foam tape, here is my 5000 mile experience thus far.
1. BSM works mostly and no issues with lights.
2. BSM with foam tape allows the sensor to angle down some, but it does not sense small cars. It sees semi's and taller pickups. I have a slight lift and 38" tires.
3. The BSM senses more towards the back instead of the side like oem. Threedom makes a 392 plate for these (removes the Oracle name), so I wish they made it work better by aim BSM down and out.
4. The flush mount taillight light is awesome. I got trail rash that would have ripped the oem tailight right out of the jeep. Huge save there.

So for me, I'm glad I got these even though the BSM could be better. I may add thicker foam tape when I replace Oracle plate with the Threedom 392 plate. Also the spare fuel can setup doesn't interfere with these tail lights.

Heading up Black Bear Pass.

Thanks for the reply on your experience with the foam tape. I added 3mm of tape and did a test drive today and didn't notice any difference. My 392 is an XR with 35's. I put the tape on the same place in your previous picture and can't tell if the sensor is actually angled down or not.... I was thinking of shimming it more or perhaps filing down the housing itself. It doesn't seem like anyone online offers an angled BSM sensor bracket - but it seems like it might be an easy thing for someone with a 3d printer.

I broke an OEM taillight on a beach in MD, with a hi-lift jack installed vertically on the rear. When I opened the door, it swung into the light and *crack*. I picked up the Oracle flush lights as they were less than half the price of the single OEM replacement light. I'll keep experimenting with the sensor mounting, in the meantime.

Changed my oil for the second time on this trip and did a 5 tire rotation.
Heading out to cross Idaho to Montana for some 2 track fun which gets me closer to home,,,a little bit.

Oh and I had to replace my rear glass due to a boo-boo a week ago. Thank goodness I found one in a day at a glass shop in Montrose, CO, $600 installed. F'ing dealers were a waste to call, no inventory and one wanted $1,500 and the other wanted $1,800. Neither had inventory. Mentioned mid August for manufacturing plus shipping! Crazy.

This 👉; "F'ing dealers were a waste to call, no inventory.....". Not that I'm bitter; mine's been at the dealer going on week 2 which will, in all likelihood, span into week 3 for the same 'no inventory' reason.

Glad you found one at a glass shop!
