No more XR Package for order…

I wanted a 2023 392 anyway so I will be patient.

I think Jeep is going to add some special touches for the Rubicon 20th anniversary. I read the grill may be changing slightly for 2023 and of course a decal package. I am also hoping for a red leather seat option for 2023 392 edition.

My XR is in the shipping abyss.

All this leads me to believe 392s will continue to be unicorns. I'd take a regular 392 if an XR isn't available. Bird in hand... I can't imagine they will be making these after '23 and those will probably be hard to come by as well.

Right. If I get a non-XR 22, I will keep it in my driveway until I have a ‘23 whatever sitting physically beside it. THEN I’ll sell/turn in my 22.

What if China invades Taiwan? What if Fauci says "lock down"? What if Russia launches a nuke? I would take the 392 as is. Take it to Northridge 4X4 in Utah and they'll build you a crazy XR w/ fox reservoir shocks, steering stabilizer, 4" mopar lift, 37's 4.56 gears, etc etc and probably brake off the governor

So while I’ll still stand by calling BS on any dealer saying you WILL get a ‘23 XR if you cancel ( the fact is ZERO, even converted orders closer to production start can’t be in the system until the banks open, which will be most likely fourth quarter) I do see a possible. scenario playing out here: There could be a possibility that MY’22 is cut short because ‘23 is the twentieth anniversary for the very popular Rubicon, to make sure the can get more than a full year’s run. So we MAY see the books open as early as August and production could start in the fall. BUT… still doesn’t change the fact you can’t build out any model year until the order banks open.

Believe me…. I learned the hard way. I spent EVERY possible avenue trying for a ‘22 ”hold” or “reservation” or whatever you want to call it to get my build guaranteed after my ‘21 was sold from under me from June until October. Couldn’t do it even October 7th… no one could until the 8th.

@YukonCornelius I hear you about the full year run on 23’s for the reason they cut 22 short. Makes sense. This should be interesting to see how things play out.

I’m sorta regretting ordering basically fully loaded. Went through two days ago…I’m hoping I don’t go into limbo due to some supply thing…even though it’s non XR. I’d be fine if I could convert to a 23 eventually, but who knows!

One thing for sure: Good luck to anyone trying to get a new or used 392 anything outside of an order for the next who knows how many months...unless ya got extra money to burn.

Agreed…

I would say prices probably just went up $10K (minimum) on any unsold dealer orders and likely on used 392’s also.

I lost my order on a FE Bronco a few months ago. I was looking around at the ones up for sale and they were all 30k ADM and such. We’re probably looking at the same with 392’s now...even worse than when we found out the XR was done.

Autotrader, Cars.com, and all those will have a ton up as decoys…
”Hi is that Wrangler 392 available?”.
“Nope, but can I interest you in this Willys we have?”

Doh.

That would be a tough call for sure. My Fire Cracker Red XR was ordered on 2/10/22. I haven’t received a call from any Jeep rep. I would probably wait for the 23’ XR if given the option. I really like the idea of a factory warranty on the whole enchilada.
After reading my post, I have realized it has no useful information in it, but I'm going to post it anyway.

I can appreciate that for sure. The warranty is very comforting on a machine like this, but with the way the supply chain is, there is a tremendous amount of uncertainty in the future. Gonna be a bit of a dice roll. If I was confident that they would come through with the 2023 XR, I'd wait..........I can be patient, and not willing to make major sacrifices to "have it now." (most of the time)

And if they fulfill those orders, but don't open the 2023 order banks for XR, then you have a genuine unicorn and have something truly rare.

On the other hand, could you get hung out to dry and not have a 392 at all if the 2023's get bumped or if something (political, supply chain, covid, russia, other bs) comes up between now and then?

If they do something significantly different (more power, big infotainment upgrade, 37's?) with the 2023, I will order one. Should have no trouble selling a beautiful low miles 2021 XR for probably close to what I paid for it, but like others have said, I would not sell my 392 until I had another one sitting in the driveway.

I'm actually +/- on the 37's.... Happy with the way the 35 looks. It is a road monster. 37s would hurt acceleration and fuel economy a little and heaven help if it required more bumpstop. Way it is now, there is not much room for uptravel on the XR's. Don't really care about the 20th anniversary stuff personally, but as long as they don't do anything too gaudy, I'd be OK with it and it would certainly increase resale value. 2023 owners will have the rarest and probably best 392's. I'm sure they will iron out some problems as they identify them with the early vehicles.

I’m glad I pulled my order (placed in January) which gives me the option of waiting to see what the mid cycle refresh and 20th anniversary will bring.. yea it will come with a longer wait but if that wait includes a 37in package with gearing to match, new color options etc I say it’s worth it… I have to believe at least one of the things I’ve mentioned will occur… patiently waiting…

I’m with ya. If you watch that video 22 392 posted, he talks about three possible reasons for the halt. I feel it’s a combo of his first two reasons and not the third.

Fourth reason: Jeep realized Ford can’t put out Braptors fast enough so they said to themselves “we don’t need to make this anymore since we don’t even have the competition we thought we had.” 😂

Good luck. With the things the way they are these days you will need it.

I was hoping the production goes in within this month. But now it’s all confusing ??

(y)

waiting to see what the mid cycle refresh

This is a pet peeve of mine over at the JLforum…

There is NO SUCH THING as a mid-model Jeep Wrangler refresh. Jeep has ONLY done it once in Wrangler history on the JK and that happened to be 5 years into what ended up a 12 year run (they ran the JK in ‘18 remember.) Jeep has released no plans in its projections for the JL replacement as of yet. You can’t even “pick” a “mid-model” point until you have both ends of the timeline established.

What we MAY see, hopefully is Uconnect5 as Jeep’s roadmap in 2019 was to have it in all vehicles by MY’22, so they are behind on that front… but that’s due to the gluttony of issues that it has, so Jeep has been a little gun shy - they do have an 8.4” variant so it’s not a dash design holding it up.

I’d be willing to bet Jeep had a set number of 392s they were going to build for 2022 and after the number of orders were met they pulled it. Simple as that.

For 2022’s order banks opened October 8th and production started December 16th. That was about 2 months later than average due to the state of things. I don’t see it changing much for this year.

That being said, a build cannot go into a system until it can accept it.... that’s the “order banks are open” day. Options around this are reservation system (which only hold your place in line, they are not a build) similar to what Ford and GM have used. Jeep has not.

So, jeep will build all of its current order up to, and past the next MY order date. They will build as many orders as they can for the current model year up until plant shutdown to switch to next model year. At that point, all confirmed orders from the current year that have not been built, will get moved to the new model year, and built as such. But that is determined by what they CAN build before the shutdown/retool.

So while it is true that some orders of current year models get bumped up, that does not happen until AFTER new year orders open and AFTER they build as many as they can before shutdown.

All manufacturers work this way. I just don’t see Stellantis changing up the game for the XR orders they originally committed to but can’t build. I still see it following the same process.

Very well true. If it’s back in 2023 I’d expect the same.
