Busted coolant hose (little one under alternator)

i went out and bought some that day, and ordered a replacement part and silicon hose, i think ill do a quality job on cutting the si hose and swap it out on the spare part so its a more long term fix if it happens

I'm going to do the same thing. I bought the 90 degree 5/8" silicon hose from Napa and the OEM hose(648117AC) from a mopar distributer. Going to replace the "problem" 90 degree section with silicon on the new OEM hose. I wondering if anyone has had the smaller hose section from the oil filter housing blow. I guess I could replace that with silicon also.

I know Jeep is on this site they have input and comments on other posts why nothing on this subject? It’s obviously a design issue. I’m not thrilled. Coolant hose ,steering issues,transfer case clutches. Some power assist on steering ,rock track transfer case with a Dana 60 or bigger with 2wd none of this auto4by. We would have been better off. A nice 3-3.5 inch lift with 74 weld portals from the factory. That would work

I just got my Mopar replacement. Not sure if I will swap it out or just keep it with me.

I did swap mine out keeping the old one for emergency repairs. Maybe I should just buy another new one. My old one only has 12 thousand miles on it.

I certainly get that but I am going to have switch a new one in every couple of years? Thinking about reinforcing the new one with the self sealing tape that has been mentioned here. I would probably do the same thing to the original then keep it in the Jeep.

I used a ceramic knife to cut it down with, worked very well.

I love this forum, my 21 with 35k miles started steaming and spewing coolant a few weeks back. I was just down the road from my house so I slowly got it home. Google potential problems and this thread was first thing that came up. I went ahead and ordered the silicon elbow that one of you guys posted before we even got into it and diagnosed it….sure enough, that ended up being the problem. We went ahead and changed to the silicon elbow and upgraded to a 180 thermostat. I did have to go grab a couple of C-clamps because the hose is a hair larger outer diameter and the stock ones wouldn’t go.

Finally got around to installing the suspect 90 degree elbow silicon hose. Definitely a hand scraper, like most other jobs on the Jeep. A little bit of silicon spray really helps when installing the new hose. The hose I removed didn't seem weak or ready to blow, but I feel better replacing it.

Why didn't you use the OEM clamps?

The silicon hose replacement is slightly larger in outside diameter.
