Theft Prevention: How to Decrease the Likelihood of Our 392s Getting Stolen

I use Lonestar Tracking, battery operated that can be hidden and batteries last for months.

Mopar I used to use but it was a Jeep rarely driven and used to run the battery down and easy to track because it plugs in to the OBD11 plug.

The 392 has its own built in locator in Uconnect that a thief can never disconnect unless the battery to the jeep is disconnected.

If thats the case, unless the new unit is different, the unit will die any way.

Mopar unit is designed to get an annual fee out of you.

Use the locator built in to Jeep and a Lonetstar battery one and I can assure you that if Antone got it they wouldn't get far and they will never find it before you find them

This is great information! Thanks. My renewal after my one year trial is ending and I'm already receiving renewal notices. I was debating the need to renew or not. This gives me a great alternative. I will look into it.

Thanks for sharing! I’m seriously co side ring this battery powered GPS tracking device. What is the Uconnect built in locator? The one used with Uconnect guardian app?

And what if Antone has a GPS signal jammer?

What about one of these? Anybody used one before? I keep my vehicles in the garage at night but when I travel and stay in hotels I wish I had something to discourage thieves.

I think this is a great deterrent! It is a little bulky, but it appears to do the job. As it has been stated before, no way to stop a pro from taking our vehicles, but there are many ways to delay them and make them think twice. This will definitely make them think twice.

I don't believe in one single theft prevention, but in having layers of security devices or systems to minimize the likelihood of our jeeps getting stolen. There are some videos about this Disklok showing ways to defeat it. I am attaching one as an example (I just wish they were a little less clowns). 8:20 if you want to get to the Disklok part.

Uconnect GPS does not track when vehicle is running and moving, only once parked and shut off.

Sadly, here we go. The first stolen 392 reported Here. This is infuriating! Someone tried to steal my 2003 Rubicon that had a "high tech" Viper alarm system and a hidden kill switch about 10 years ago. The alarm system was bypassed, but my $30 (price 10 yrs ago) kill switch saved the day as it could not be found.

This video shows how easy it is to steal vehicles with a key FOB. I bought my 392 at MSRP with the agreement of purchasing the Mopar EVTS (electronic vehicle tracking system). Basically it follows your vehicle's every single move, good in the event the vehicle is flat bedded. Of course, this system is useless without the yearly fee for the monitoring agency. I haven't decided on whether it is worth it or not...after two days of ownership 🙂.

Ravelco is a very expensive kill switch, but appears to work. I'm planning on just making my own, or buying, a kill switch again. Our Jeeps are going to be (already are?) highly desired by thieves.

Have you had experience with theft prevention devices in the past? Or, what will you do (if anything) to protect against car theft?
Tazer mini with pin. Uconnect and airtag as backup. Also cover vin# on the dash.

For $30, why not?

I have an air tag hidden in my jeep. I have disabled the speaker so they will not be able to find it. They will be notified that they are being tracked still, but I think that might be a feature, and if they detect this, they might abandon the vehicle. Having the speaker disabled is critical as they will not be able to find the air tag since it doesn't make any audible sound. There are several YouTube videos on how to disable the speaker. It is a reversible action with no wire cutting at all.

I need to do this. Thanks.

I'll do the same, but also just ordered a Ravelco immobilizer. They also offer a 10% for AAA members.

Re: any Bluetooth E devices like AirTags: there are devices on the market able to point their location even when the speaker is out. But it's time consuming, which is why I'll add a few to my Jeep.

Have the Hood Locks and Air Tags already in play - Speaker Removed - Working on Ravelco and haven’t heard about the 10% AAA discount. I am using Ravelco Mid Atlantic- What division are you using ? I need to contact Ravelco as this is tentatively setup for a January install - Any help would be appreciated 👍

Ravelco AZ & CA. PM me.

Good to know. I used a couple of AirTags in various places, all speakers removed. Hoping if one is found they’d assume that that is the only one.

One suggestion for those using air tags....remove the speaker...(there are several YouTube video HowTo's)
Also, Samsung Phones now can detect when there is an AirTag in your vehicle too.

- Hood locks - Rugged ridge make the best ones imo that are like the stock ones in design, or the rampage ones, which are somewhat inferior two piece design (held by two pins in an overlap that can bend if not installed correctly or the hood warps)
- Ravelco or IGLA
- Compustar alarm with the T12 or T13 remote kit (T13 includes proximity) both are two way up to 3 miles on the remote, and come with Drone the hidden gps/telematics module to control from mobile. Also want the alarmit kit which comes with the siren and the DASII shock and window break sensors.

Rear windows are not laminated safety glass, which is why they are commonly broken by thieves, same with the other HEMI targeted cars.

Uconnect is nice, and id still recommend it being paid for to keep for security purposes as not all thieves are pro's, but can be disabled via the CAN Bus as well as the GPS antenna cut, which is usually the first thing done. In the TRX, Charger and Challenger this is step one, before they program a key and off they go. It should not be relied upon. My first TRX was stolen before I had time to secure it with a ravelco and compustar alarm, and this was cut in less than 10 seconds. Uconnect was worthless. You need a police report# which the operator calls to verify while you are on the phone with them, for the theft tracking system to be activated by Sirius Guardian (makes it instant). Otherwise it is a 15-30second delayed GPS for all other uses.
