Theft Prevention: How to Decrease the Likelihood of Our 392s Getting Stolen

While we wait for help from Stellantis, there are easy to install, low cost “theft inhibitors” to keep "low-tech" thieves from preying on your new Jeep, like locking gas caps, lug nuts and locking hood latches, including these MOPAR-style latches from Amazon I installed in less than 30 minutes:

How are your lockable hood latches holding so far? Any rust or color fading?

Maybe I am overlooking something but the UCONNECT app and the Jeep app shows vehicle location data via GPS. Is that not sufficient?

They are holding up great. No rust; no color fading.....one caveat: my 392 spends most of its life in a locked storage garage, not air conditioned, but nevertheless, relatively safe from the salty, humid Florida Atlantic Coast breezes.

If my 392 gets stolen, I never want to see it again. I will have no idea how it was treated while out of my control, and I won’t know what the thief might have done to it, either. Years ago a friend of mine had his van stolen. When he got it back a few months later, the thief had left a hypodermic needle in the driver’s seat.

Thanks. Mine stays at our garage overnight but the parking where I work is kinda tricky. I read somewhere that the alarm goes off if the hood is popped while the JL is locked. Never tested myself though.

I haven't dove into my researching on the whole vehicle theft prevention, but one of my first steps while I'm waiting is I've already been researching hood locks, as it's so easy to walk up to any Wrangler and pop the hood.
I agree with hood lock. And seems to me like a struggle to find something

Maybe a hobo scrum 😛

So after intensive search and comparisons I ordered the same hood lock latches that @CBH had installed on his 392. I found this version from rugged ridge: https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/11210-32-rugged-ridge-locking-hood-catch-kit they seem to be better build quality as a new product. But I wanted to have the similar look to the factory latches...

I also contacted with Ravelco and got a quote, the earlies they can get me on schedule is late May. I'm still not sure if I should get it installed, even thought they claim Ravelco won't cause issues with factory warranty.

Oh man, I really wish Jeep had designed the JL with build-in internal hood locking mechanism, and hood alarm. The uconnect passcode thing that someone mentioned earlier will be really nice and hopefully we can get some updates soon.

I have the Tazer and I though I had the hood alarm set in the menu but I just make sure the Jeep was locked, the FOBs were far away and opened the hood. Alarm did not go off. I'll have to check next time I'm in the Tazer menu. I really hate that menu.

I don't have a Tazer mini, but watched a few videos on how to use it and don't like it neither. I won't be changing other settings. I read that you'll have to have the Tazer mini plugged all the time to have the hood alarm feature.

Great thank you

Is there a way to fin out how many keys are programmed in the vehicle's computer?

Hi.
Can someone still steal the frequency while the car is on motion?
And what can be purchase not to get my 392 stolen again?
Thanks

I had EVTS but thrives know to look for the wire coming off the battery of obd!! port so I went to (have tested at least 20) to a battery powered one. and it was a couple hundred a year until I got smart and bought the lifetime.

Problem was the little blue light would drain my battery if the Jeep sat for 3 weeks

I can assure you they wont find the battery operated and the AA or AAA energizer depending on unit you get laSTS 3-10 months

How much was the lifetime EVTS if I may ask?

it was 4-500, I am telling you there are way better solutions.. If it is daily drive than the little blue flashing light is a deterrent but since they rip out the trackers and leave them in the parking space as a FU I would have a battery back up like I use and it reports every 5 mins max

So you have a different system than EVTS, or EVTS but with a different power source than the main battery?
