Sport Tcase Swap

I'm following this post, I really hope this works out as slick as it sounds, I would love to go back retro to locking hubs, one piece upgraded axle's (get rid of the coupling where the FAD would be) I've had my transfercase clutches feel like they where slipping in the sand after getting the beast a little hot while playing hard. Thanks for trail blazing ameldorf.

Installed it today. It is doable with the front half bolted to transmission. I will admit I initially didn't understand the assignment : ). I mistook "input shaft" as what is connected to the transmission. Not the case. You have to use the 392 transfer case shaft with gear that connects the transmission intermediate shaft to the rear drive shaft. Some may correctly(?) call that the input shaft. Either way, it's in. I still have the front drive shaft to install and skid plate but am waiting on a new front axle. DTCM is also installed and setting updated with Tazer. Still have a service 4WD light to figure out. I read some where AlfaOBD (I have it) may be required to change additional settings. Transfer case works as expected though.

For reference, this has the wrong input shaft (the MP1622C) and as such doesn't work. Gotta remove it and put in the 392 that is correctly pictured above.

Thanks for the pictures and following up with the update ameldorf. Does anyone know if you could re-program the new DCTM so you don't need the Tazer? to turn off the FAD? Can that be performed with the alfaOBD mentioned above?

The settings are likely configurable with AlfaOBD, Jscan, or dealer tool. You have to do something to let the vehicle know that there's a transfer case with no clutches to control. If you go the DTCM route, like EBYCREEK mentioned you then have to align the DTCM with whats installed in the Jeep i.e. no FAD.

For any of you that have done this, does offroad plus still work? I assume it will not work in 2 wheel drive. But hopefully still work in 4 high and 4 low?

I think your going to see a lot more of these upgrade, especially if Jeep comes through with the 392 Gladiator. There going to need an upgrade to the transfer case if the Gladiator is going to be able to do any real towing!

In 2024 the the transfer case had some design changes and it is supposed to be stronger. Too soon to tell but it may be less of an issue in the new models. My 2022 is still going strong, I just have the hybrid case ready to go in case I ever need it.

After the Atlas conversion the off-road plus only works in 4Hi and 4Lo. But with the NoLimtz you can turn on the off-road plus anytime you want. I assume it would be the same for any transfer case that has a 2Hi.

Anybody running a front oxle disconnect with the sport transfer case? If so, do you have it routed directly to the shifter or do you have to operate it manually?

You will have to operate it manually as the 392 has no wire harness going to the front axle FAD.

I’m hoping the same since mine is a 2024. Scott Blum claims no failures after the 2024 upgrades. Hopefully, it’s like the Truck TC that’s pretty strong.
