Service 4wd

From his posts and replies it seems he has had the serv4wd drive light on for some time. Got stuck in the mud at his property the day before but got it out. Then grenaded next day while on the highway.
Well I suppose the T C could have seized up and then just destroyed itself . Again I only see the pics .
Hard to believe it could just snap like that .

Chalk another transfer case up for replacement.

Less than 10,000 miles on my 392. Pretty much stock - XR, etc. not run hard or off road and always serviced at the dealer. Jeep would not back out of the garage. Would move in 4 Low, but that’s all. Loaded it on a flat bed to go to the dealer Kuly 23rd. After dancing with Stellatis for over three weeks, they finally decided today to replace the transfer case. 3 week back order on the transfer case. Saga continues.

Omg what a bummer 😵‍💫 there has to be a better answer (fix) from Jeep like two wheel high with a Rock track Transfer case

Fast forward to 3:50…. It doesn’t look like his transfer case is going to be around much longer. Probably doesn’t help that he’s running 40’s

18,250 miles. Transfer case failed. Limped it to a dealership in the UP of Michigan. Was on my last leg home from a 7,500 mile trip.
Prior to failure, it smelled hot, then vibrations, smoke rolled out front underneath when stopped. Then fun sounding noises which proved to be beneficial for the dealer tech to confirm for warranty. Lucky I was near a big town and not on Black Bear.

After warranty, Atlas gets installed.

Transfer case in these rigs is definitely the weakest link. I posted about Trail Recons going out over a year ago. There’s been way too many failures on the forum since that time. Your trip seemed like a blast outside of the T case deciding to give out.

I swapped the fluid in mine a few weeks back at 10,000 miles and the fluid looked surprisingly good without any discoloration or clutch smell to it.

Yes, tcase is weak and I believe I did not abuse it like I could of. Just used. Interesting that it went after driving on mostly straight 2 lane hwys for 3 days (about 7 hrs/day) at 55-75 mph.

Yeah you’ve got failures from folks that have seldom even taken their Jeep off road. It’s a roll of the dice.

Do we know if the Tcase model # has changed on these rigs throughout the model years?

There should be a recall …
That would be good, but sadly the only acknowledgment from Jeep has been a software update… and only if you’re experiencing “issues”

What are the criteria for a recall? (Other than bad press, of course).

It seems that safety impact is a priority, not surprisingly. However, from my perspective, some of the failures people described above certainly resulted in serious safety compromise on the trail with potentially catastrophic consequences. I presume that Jeep will not make this right unless forced to by government or lawsuit.
Yup until there’s enough complaints they’ll ignore it.

I'm not sure that off-road safety concerns will force a recall, as I do not think the NTSB tracks those, especially if nobody was actually hurt.

Some auto manufacturers have done "voluntary" recalls in the past in an effort to either "do the right thing" or maybe just to improve the optics of the situation.

Anyone affected should maybe reach out to Jeep and put some pressure on them to pay attention.

How about getting stranded out in the middle of nowhere. Maybe that’s why Jeep only put a 21 gallon tank on our Jeeps so we can’t get too far away🤔
