Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition Discussion

Good info. Thanks.

My dealer told me they had two allocations, and one of those allocations could be for the AEV upfit.

I did get my order in pretty quickly after 1 EST, so fingers crossed.

I watched a video by a dealer on FB. The process involves the dealer getting the actual order in with the order group. They also then submit the dealer forms (master agreement, authorization, debit forms). If the order gets one of the AEV level IIs, a dealer/AEV portal will then open up to the dealer where they can put in the specific option choices for the upfit based on what the buyer wants.

So in essence, it’s like an AEV ‘order bank’ will be available to the dealer on an order that got the YHC package.

I bought these so I had to keep my xr 392 and only afford a regular 20
So... I got a call this morning from my dealer. I need to come in to review my order. He says the reason Jeep pulled the 20a from the order page was to correct a pricing issue.

Sure enough, on my Printed Order Confirmation, the 20a package shows as $0
You might be able to hold them to the pricing. Legally, in fact.
Check the laws in your state.

When I ordered mine, I placed a deposit, had the printed confirmation showing all specs and package, with the total price which they and I signed.

About a week later, they tried to tell me I needed to come in to redo paperwork as the price had changed and this was because of cost increase and, I haven’t taken delivery prior to the increase.

I challenged it, researched the law, and they dealer had to eat it.
I paid what I signed.
Poor timing on their and Jeep’s part.
It also didn’t matter what the amount was. Law is the law. $1-$?????

Hold your ground.
I’m sure many of us can tell stories of unscrupulous dealers.

Sounds like order banks are back up again.

Three things:

1. Most states now have laws that include provisions for errors and admissions when it comes to contracts.
2. The POC without the added cost, also did not have any of the 20a options listed.
3. I strive to do the right thing. I'd rather pay what I expected, than compromise my character for the chance to save $8400

I dropped by the dealer this afternoon, got a new POC and order sheet. No big deal. I even got to keep my place in line.

Same. When I put in my order, manager told me final price. I said “That’s not right”. I was mainly afraid that they put in an order for a regular 392 instead of the 20A. However, he showed me the poc he printed out and it very obviously had the 20A code on it, but with $0 beside it. It did also list red/black leather interior, but nothing else in the 20A package.

They’re selling to me at msrp, so we just discussed the general ballpark of AEV and non-aev final price depending and it sounded correct to me based on the ballpark cost of the 20A package. We agreed that it had to be some mess up with the order bank and that he would send me a final poc/invoice to sign once it corrected and once I find out if I got an AEV build or not since it seems that with the AEV level II, the dealer pays AEV, then we pay the total final price for 20A plus AEV cost to the dealer.

Here are some photos (got them off the JL forums, so credit where credit is due). I wasn’t a huge fan of the all red seats on The 10A, but these actually look decent. These pics are of a sliver 20A I think (too light to be sting). I think it looks pretty good. That red dash looks better than I expected as well. I’m just never going to be a fan of the red belts though.

I think some of these are of a 392 and some are of a 4xe (pic with the blue lights under the headlight control knob).

Those seats are gonna look pretty sick with silver, sting, black, and white rigs.

If anyone is curious, those coordinates map to a spot between the Upper and Lower Eagle Point Campgrounds near Emerald Bay and... The Rubicon Trail.

I'm not a fan of the red belts, though I understand that they are a callback to the first special edition Rubicon (the 2003 TJ Rubicon Tomb Raider Edition, which had red seatbelts). Granted, the original Rubicon did not have red seatbelts, so I don't see why they are carrying through the red belt theme. It looked okay on the JK and JL Rubicon Recon editions, but those all had red trim / accents inside and out, and completely black seats.

I think could live with the red belts, but I cannot deal with those seats or that dash, personally. It pings my OCD that the outside badging has bronze accents and the inside is red and black.

The dash is an easy enough fix, if someone doesn't like it, but then you're removing something that makes the 20A package what it is, so I don't see purists doing that (or wanting that on the secondary market).

I think it would have looked way better and more distinguished (and more becoming of a $90K Jeep) if they had done the black leather dash from the High Altitude, and the quilted seats (in black) and left the bronze stitching throughout, and thrown in the red seatbelts if they really felt they needed the callback to the Tomb Raider Edition...

Same. Pretty sure I'll end up swapping the red for something else, but keeping it all to go back to stock if I ever want.

With ya there. Can always switch to the leather dash trim with red stitching already available. Can always get seat covers. Those red seat belts aren’t as easy to replace/deal with though. Sharpie? 😂

Likely higher. Just like the percentages of Jeeps that have or will have this issue

My 2015 JKU Rubicon never had the issue, and I live in Colorado and drove it on I-70 all the time in the winter... I know the current owner of the Jeep, and the hinges are still fine.

My 2021 JLU Rubicon also did not have the issue, despite me driving it on I-70 all the time in the winter...

Jeep has made over 2 million JK Wranglers and over 200,000 JL Wranglers per year since it was introduced, and I don't see near that many people complaining about their hinges. Maybe you're due for a 4Runner or something.

I've had friends that have swapped in (and out) the red belts on other editions... They say it's not too bad. Torque spec is pretty high, though.

Yeah, I can't see that being too bad. I've swapped/removed/reinstalled lots of belts in other vehicles. And after owning and working on an 18k pound LMTV, a Jeep has nothing I'd consider "high" torque.

Might look into that. I agree that the bronze would have been so much better on the 392 version. Red looks ok with the ‘boring’ colors (of which I ordered - sting). But I can’t imagine that red looking good with punkn, hydro, or sarge. I guess it could look okay with earl and firecracker.

I thought about getting hydro for a hot sec, but glad I didn’t. I think all red seats would look pretty cool with it, but the red and black half and half seats, I’m not so sure about.

But bronze would look good with ALL of those. 😑

The air gauge only goes to 80psi, I know that is more than enough to air up tires but it makes me wonder if they used a quality air compressor and regulated the pressure for some strange reason or did they use an off brand compressor with lower capability.

My JK has a 2 gallon tank and is set to 145psi. If I have been on trails with tall grass I use a blowgun to clean the grass out of my skids especially around my exhaust.
If the system in the 20A doesn’t have a tank and low pressure it isn’t going to have much cfm.
Will be interesting to see what kind of system this thing comes with.

Honestly, if it's not an ARB Twin, I wouldn't want it UNLESS you could somehow integrate an ARB Twin to that tailgate control. But then the compressor would need to be mounted remotely somewhere, and that would mean to the side of the cargo area or under a front seat on the 392...

It’s a Jeep…. Lowest quality possible
