Replacing stock 392 battery

Yes, it came with the jump start feature. Time will tell on the cold weather.
I replaced the dead battery on my other vehicle last summer with an antigravity. It was expensive but I liked the jump start feature plus it came with a jump pack for my other vehicle! Cold cranking was awesome, zero issues last winter. Ironically I’ve had to use the jump pack on my 392 multiple times because the battery died.

There is such a current draw when off that is it sits for long enough the batteries all go dead. The dealerships know this. There was a 20th anniversary they were price gouging on that was sitting unsold inside on a trickle charger. “The battery is good there’s nothing wrong, we just keep it in a charger while sitting…”

Weight depends on which Antigravity battery you buy. I got the 80 amp.

A typical Group 94 AGM is about 53 lbs. With the large Antigravity, weight savings is about 28 lbs. You can definitely tell the difference during install because the OEM battery takes effort to remove.

That’s awesome. Really appreciate all the info and weight comparisons. I’ve heard great things overall making the switch.

So there is more than normal parasitic current draw on the Jeeps? Anybody quantify this?

Yes sir, if you leave it for a couple weeks, battery will discharge....I unhook my battery cables when I depart USA, then reconnect when I get back from overseas trips...learned that lesson the hard way on the 2018 JL Sahara...

I have not had a problem with mine sitting for a couple weeks or longer. About once a year I get the aux switch unavailable message. I disconnect the battery and fully charge it and it goes away for 6-8 months. There is definitely some draw, as when you re-connect the negative terminal it will spark. But does not seem like more than any other modern vehicle.

Yes sir you are probably closer to being correct it takes 3-4 weeks, but seems much quicker to discharge in Cold Weather...

I think you would be better off with a quality battery maintainer. Even a disconnected battery will lose charge given enough time.. I use one on my LJ.

Yes sir I could rent a storage with electric, but they have gotten ridiculous, haven't had any issue leaving it unhooked for 5 months at all...same with my RV as well...unhooking the batteries has worked even thought it's a PITA....

Definitely worse in cold weather. First 0° night I can guarantee the aux switch unavailable message will show on next start. It is like when cold weather hits a JL needs to keep itself warm…

Makes sense. I didn't know your situation.

I do store mine for the winter. I run a Maintainer/ trickle charger. It shuts off when full. They are correct. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks and it will loose enough charge and not start. Got this at Costco. Works just fine for me.

Here's a thought on trickle charging. On many vehicles the 12v hot on the 7 pin trailer connector is hot all the time. would be easy to make a charging cable that would plug right in to that and wouldn't require any change to vehicle. I think the 12v outlet in the back of the jeep is hot all the time too. Could charge through that without additional vehicle wiriing and wouldn't have to open hood....

Probably correct. That lead is not rated for a lot of current but the battery maintainers do use many amps. I might make a harness for the 392. On my LJ I just ran a lead to the front bumper to plug in and secured it with zip ties but we are talking about a 392!

Got one on the front tow plate already...

That would take 25 years to pay for itself. Guessing it won't last that long.

It’s steep in price, though I wouldn’t mind the chance of not getting stuck or annoyed with dead batteries and the quality of a good one. Especially since I camp a lot

All that battery is doing is saving the last bit of charge so it is not completely dead if you are running something with ignition off. The Jeep does that also as well as many portable refrigerators and other gear. Personally I like the redundancy of a jump box. Can help someone else also.

Hey folks. My 2021 392 has a dead battery. I’ve tried to jump it, charge it, and it’s not taking anything. I pulled it out this morning and put it on my ctek (7002) and it’s acting like it’s charging. But I’m not so sure it’s going to work out in the end. I don’t have a way to load test, but I can take it to a parts store I guess. In my experience if the battery is low, the load test isint valid anyway.

Long story short. I k ow I’ll get some different responses. But what is the go to battery that’s an upgrade from stock? If my battery doesn’t take a charge, and I’m forced to replace… I’d like to put a battery in it that is fit for the 392.

Thoughts?
Word on the street is these batteries are dying about 2 years in. My buddies 2021 is dead and my 2022 is on it's way out. Let's be thankful we don't have start stop batteries, they are a disaster for the traditional JLs and Gladiators.

Ditto, mine died at about 2 years as well and was replaced under warranty. I'm keeping my eye on these battery related posts here so when the replacement fails at two years again I will have some recommended choices.

My 2012 JKUR died at about 2 years. As did my BMW M3, mini cooper.

It’s simply the batteries today and the demand in them with the systems on these vehicles.
