Replacing stock 392 battery

My 2014 jkur with the original battery was traded in for my April 2021 build 392 that also still has the original battery in it. My 2016 Ram 3500 still has the originals in it also. I guess it is how you use the vehicles that determines how long they last.

It dropped to -20 last month. My antigravity was stone cold dead on my lx470 until it warmed up to zero sitting in the sun. Then it started up. If you live in a cold northern climate where it’s routinely below zero, I would not recommend the lithium. If you live in a temperate climate or need the weight savings it’s great.

I have a 21 I bought in Dec. 22 with 5k miles on it. Since then the battery has died 6 times. I jumped it and call the local dealer and ask them to check it several times. After one of the visits they said don't drive enough and that the battery is fine, so they can not replace it. The person that owned the jeep prior to me installed the after market blinkers and put 3 amber LEDs inside the hood scoop. I am wondering if it is somehow draining the battery. I drove around town on Friday and it was dead yesterday (Saturday). It seems to die more after driving in rain for some reason. I am thinking of disconnecting the LEDs and see how long I go without the battery dying again. Is it possible that the LEDs could be causing the battery to die, even though they do not appear to be on over night ?

A 3 year old battery with that few miles might just be DOA. Get the battery checked to start, could be as simple as a new battery and a trickle charger in future if you’re not gonna be driving much.

Once a lead acid battery goes below 50% it can often never fully recover.

AGM can for sure take a much deeper discharge and have more recharge cycles. This could just be a bad cell or overall spent battery

Do the lights stay on when the vehicle is off? If the lights are out they cant really be pulling any current.

Any other aftermarket add ons? What "after market blinkers" did they install.

Not sure of the brand, but they are blacked out when off and are sequential when engaged. I had driven on Friday night, so the car was off for less then 12 hours, but the battery was totally dead. I could not use a jump starter that I have, I had to plugin the trickle charger for 20 minutes on 50 and then use the jump starter battery to get it started.

I ended up getting a new battery thinking that maybe the stock one had a bad cell. When installing, we noticed that there is a 1.1 amp draw from the battery with the jeep totally off. I was thinking of testing the cause of the draw by having the amp meter attached and start pulling fuses to see when the draw drops to .1 or something. Does anyone know of a better approach ?

That is interesting. Mine sat for 8 days while we were on vacation and was just fine when we got back. A 1 amp drain would kill the battery before then. I like the pulling fuses idea to find out where drain is coming from. I wonder if they make some kind of current flow detector that you could just hold near each fuse to detect current flow.

I'm not well versed im amperage etc but a thought that comes to mind since I recently disabled mine is the Proximity Door Handle. If something is going to draw power with the truck off I have to assume it's part of the security system. Was the truck in "sleep" when drawing? IE off and doors closed for over 30 seconds?

This is what I went with. It looks like a decent battery. Not too expensive. Has good reviews.................but has a 4 year replacement warranty. Walmart has been very good about replacing batteries under warranty for me in the past. Pretty hassle free and seems like the 392 is hard on batteries. Or they just don't make em like they used to.

Everything was off and we gave it 20 minutes and it was still showing 1+ amps draw. I did not think of disabling the Proximity Door Handle.

Yeah my best guess is the proximity sensor for door handle locking/unlocking. If you have a Tazer you can disable it. It's also possible that you have power running to some of the outlets (like the one listed below proximity in my screenshot)? That's a feature enabled by Tazer or by sliding a fuse over.

A few Sundays ago we pulled every fuse while the meter was attached showing a 1+ amp draw from the battery. It did not drop after pulling any of the fuses from the engine compartment fuse box. So I am made an appointment with my dealer and dropped it off on Monday. When i dropped it off, the guy checking it in hooked up his computer and said my new battery was showing codes that it was low. They did not have time to check it that day but got to it Tuesday. They said after the jeep is off 1 hour it is only showing .09 amp draw from the battery and that I should bring the new battery back to Battery Plus and tell them to replace it, even though when battery plus installed it, they told me about the 1 amp draw. So I told the dealer i don't want to run back and forth between them and battery plus and wanted to know how much it would be for them to install a new battery. That way if that died, there would clearly be a problem. They said with the $200 diagnostic charge the new battery would be $700.00, but did not think I need a new battery.

Well... add mine to the list.

I hopped in to put it into the shop this morning and got the AUX switches message.

I threw it on the charger and it charged for 3 or 4 hours... nearly done now, but the charger reports 69aH of charge delivered... to what... a 80aH battery? That was pretty dead, considering I just drove it the day before.

I'd like to do an antigravity... but it gets just cold enough here to maybe an issue a few times a year, and we spend some time in Montana and Wyoming where, well they know what cold is.

It looks like I can pick up an Odyssey or an Optima 94r locally today. I've ran both with decent luck, but on paper the Optima looks to have an edge, 880cca versus 850 (but it is 6 pounds heavier).
