Problems with the 392 Rubicon

ive noticed a low speed Grinding that occurs after the vehicle has been warmed up and driven. this is with turning slightly. frequently going up or down a slight incline (like a driveway) it seems like what has been reported with other JL's and felt to be possibly related to the antilock brakes. however the dealer has not heard of any such noise. Has anyone else had this issue? It is not noted once the speed is more than 7 mph
I just heard that same noise while minor rock climbing only happens while Jeep is flexing and climbing low speeds under 8 mph. Tin metal sound only while turning the steering wheel . One of my friends with a 2024 heard the same noise while driving in the sand dunes up hill.

So far, so good. Minor stuff but mostly peace of mind with Rubicon 392. Ah yes, MSRP is fairly high. Feel like this is a $75k vehicle although MSRP pushes close to $100k.

Just curious if anyone notices a slight hum/whine while in reverse - In Standard Operation - like backing out of the garage as an example. ✌️

Anything with tall gears will have that sound in reverse

No I have not experienced any hum noise

Has anyone had an issue with the F70 INJ/IGN coil fuse blowing? I've had it happen randomly 3 times now. All 3 times it's happened while driving along on nice smooth paved roads. Jeep just dies with no warning. Didn't get a CEL or any indication of what happened. I've looked for abrasions on all of the wires going to the coils and injectors. I've made sure that all of the harnesses are plugged in good and solid. Everything looks and feels ok. I'm wondering what could cause that.

He’s a Jeep tech and was helping another member over there with some wiring on that circuit on the JL Wrangler forum. He might help you trace it.

So no one has experienced anything like this in their 392? I have the 20A 2023 and really did not notice it until the other day backing out of the garage - I am still in break in mileage.

Do you personally experience this in your 392 and do you have the XR Package or Standard 392?

I have not noticed it at all in my 20a....

But I've had similar exoieriences in other vehicles, where the exhaust would touch up against something when in reverse. It did not do it going forward as the applied torque on the engine was in the other direction. But, when shifting into reverse the engine and transmission would flex the mounts in the other direction just enough to cause the exhaust to touch something lightly, causing a buzz/hum form the contact.

I really haven't paid attention on my 392, I am just going off of my many years as a drag racer but you definitely get more hum out of a diff in reverse than you do in forward. The gear ratio is much higher in reverse.

Whine for sure...typical and expected...turn on your radio it will go away... 🤣

...or go real fast, it's a Jeep, you can't hear anything but wind when you go fast, I swear mine is quieter with the SOT open than closed. My wife has the 2024 with the super special quiet options and it is about as loud...lol...

You know , I haven't really heard a hum/whine in the 392 wrangler in reverse, but I tell you , I hear it in the 2021 Gladiator when backing down the driveway. It makes a good 'whine' backing up.
I always thought it's the way the gears are cut in the transmission. I was told years ago, by a mechanic, that manufacture's will cut the forward gears to be quiet and not cause much noise while spinning. But like reverse and maybe even first gear are the strongest and the lowest speed gears and they are cut straight, and you can hear those the most. You can hear first gear in my old Jeep TJ.
I don't think there is a issue with your Jeep, with how you described it.
Yeah, maybe it's bravo sierra, but I kinda believe in that explanation.
Besides the ZF80HP transmission is a 'horse' ! It's one of the best transmissions out there. Kinda surprises me 'Chrysler' chose it for their cars and trucks. I am glad they did.
Take it to a Jeep dealer and ask for a 'technician' to ride with you in reverse across a parking lot. see what they say.

Hope that helps. Let us know what they say.
Best regards
M

First ‘real’ problem with my 392. 18 months and 18.5k miles into ownership. The bearing cap for my alternator went, sprayed oil all over. Had it replaced today under warranty by my local dealer, they just replaced the whole alternator. Had to wait about 10 days for the part (including the thanksgiving holiday).

Oil splattered all over the face of the alternator:

If you look closely next to the arrow you can see where the seal ruptured.

Oh man glad it was an easy and quick fix. Still can’t imagine leaving the rig at dealership for 10 days.

Fortunately they said I could drive on it before the repair so I didn’t have to leave it with them, higher chance of a failure of the alternator but this is my daily driver and I needed a vehicle so took the chance. All of my driving is locally around town so wasn’t too worried about it.

So i here what seems like backlash, when i let off the gas i can here it, sounds like rear diff, as soon as you give it a little gas it goes away. took it to dealer and drove them around, you could here it no problem but they said they could not. will not put it up on the lift and try it. so i am going to a local shop and they are gonna put it in the air. also had the Brake booster go out, they didnt here that either. but they did fix it. and last took it into dealer to change oil, guy leaned on coolant reservoir and line and cracked it. didnt tell me. started to smell coolant. they told me 4 to 6 weeks to get the part. went on line and ordered it off the Mopar site and had it overnighted. they paid me back for the shipping. i hate people that are lazy and will not even try and work with you. sorry for the long complaint. other that that the Jeep is amazing.
