Problems with the 392 Rubicon

so after many visits to the dealer it is now official, the noise i am hearing was confirmed and it is
the Transfer case. it is worse when in part time, Definity some sort of backlash. so goes into the
show next week.

This thread has a new owner over here a tad bit worried. lol I know its a "problems" thread so curious, overall has your 392 been reliable?

I'm at 12,000 miles with a lot of offroading/rock crawling at the 1-7 level. I'm on 37s with a 3.5 lift. No issues whatsoever.

Great time to provide an update: early production 2021 non-XR and aluminum oil pan, currently with 19,xxx miles of mixed offroading/city/hwy driving. Battery replaced at the end of 2023 under warranty. No other issues before or after that.

So, I have an issue that is a little strange to me. I had a 2021 392 previously and can't remember this issue:

From the day I received my 2024, it seemed the front end was out of alignment as when driving normally (not heavy accelerator) it would pull to the left. Also, under even medium acceleration, the steering wheel would pull left. During normal driving, the steering wheel resistance to the left was much lighter than turning right.

So, I get a Tazer Mini, and the latest Beta update for the 2024. I put it in 2 wheel drive mode and all the symptoms described above have disappeared. No more pulling to the left and the car tracks perfectly straight. The steering resistance is perfectly balanced between a left and right turn. And no hard pull to the left under heavy acceleration.

Any one else seeing what I am seeing without a Tazer?
Thanks!

I have a 2021 and so far have had the battery replaced at less than two years and 20K miles. Just had the the oil filter adapter replaced under warranty at about 15+k and again two weeks ago at 29.5K miles. Had the left front fog light replaced because it had water in it at some point as well. So far those are the only problems I've had with this 392 Rubicon as it approaches it's third birthday on May 19th this year.

I did not experience these issues with my 24' pre-tazer 2WD. There's definitely a noticeable lightness in the steering now, and my wheel from the factory was maybe a few degree's off to the left not perfectly straight and aligned.

I have read that lowering tire PSI has helped people reduce highway drift substantially. I can't say I've noticed a massive difference as I never felt there was a problem at 37 psi I just figured the thing is a box and the wind pushes me around a bit. I'm comfortable at 32PSI now, may be worth trying. Your Tazer can reconfigure the tire PSI to mitigate the TPMS alerts lower than 37.

Thanks for sharing this! Sounds solid! What caused your battery issue?

32? Dang! Any change in mpg? I'd love to get a bit more "plantedness" on the highway

No difference that I've been able to tell tbh. I've had a particular eye on MPG lately too, since forcing rwd. I learned a lot in this thread here. Chalk test like this is helpful.

I'm a fan of doing this with the tires at realistic temps though. 20-minute zip up the freeway and pull over when you see an easy exit to stop at and dink around with psi. I test on the rear driver tire, easiest access + least weight on the axle. I can assume if the rear tires are up to temp, the front tires will definitely be up to temp. I'd rather a fraction psi more up front anyways to compensate for the extra few hundred axle weight difference.

Thank you for the info and the link! I appreciate it. I have a lot to learn

Posting this in the 'Problems...' thread but more of a PSA than anything and I'm sure it's covered somewhere else on the forum, I just couldn't immediately find it.

Finally had my rig into my local shop (not dealer) for a quick run through & light fixes after Moab and he found that the four bolts connecting the front driveshaft to the front differential yoke were loose to the point you could turn them by hand... only 15.5K/mi on the Jeep w/ OEM driveshafts; all angles within spec. She does see a fair amount wheeling and highway miles, but is not floored from stop light to stop light. Was this self-inflicted based on use over time; maybe.... maybe not... so I'd consider checking all bolts throughout the driveline particularly if you off-road your rig from time to time. Several at the rear needed torqueing as well but were not loose in the fingers....

I chalked up a slight vibration on the highway to tires/alignment particularly given the time in Utah; nope.......... :)

Do you know if there was inspection paint on the bolts? I would think that is a factory inspection point also PDI inspection point.

I thought the same thing and will be addressing with the dealer as I'm one of those 3K/mi religious oil change/inspection dudes; so she see's the dealer on that interval. There was some residual red bolt marking left on 2 of the bolts which we could only deduce was from the original build.
I am not certain at which point the driveline falls into the dealer service point inspection, if at all unless it's brought in with an obvious issue.... but will find out.
