The dealer spotted the leak today and replaced the valve cover gasket.

Well, I bought a borescope and found the leak. It appears the valve cover gasket on the passenger side has a small leak. You can see the oil stain connected to the drip. This is located right above the exhaust on the passenger side. Back to the dealer I go. Perhaps I should have them reimburse me for the borescope while I'm there.

Ran a bore scope today. Looks like the same area on mine, except on both sides, passenger and driver valve covers.

Wow! Well, I'm glad that borescope came in handy and you found the issue. I wonder of there was a bad batch of gaskets.

Not sure if it's the same supplier, but I watched a vid recently on a brand new bronco raptor that also had a leaking valve cover gasket.

Bore scoped
Saw the area around both valve covers are wet.
Took it to the dealer. They confirmed both valve cover gaskets leaking.
Getting both replaced and picking up tomorrow.,
I’ll update after I get it home.

Awesome! I smelled oil for a few days after picking it up. It was just from the oil that dripped on the exhaust when they removed the valve covers. It goes away. I'm glad you got it sorted out!

Covered by warranty as expected. The charge for the job of one had to pay is $880 for 1 gasket.

I'm glad it's back and fixed! Wow! Pricey if it wasn't covered under warranty.

That probably wouldn’t be that bad of a job for someone with basic know how. $880 seems ridiculous, but everything is now.

Agreed.
The only reason I had them do it was being under warranty. Otherwise, I would have done it.
Recently, someone asked me how I could buy a Jeep at $80k

I’m not sure any of these 392’s are worth the price. But it’s something that we want not something that we need, so price is relative.

Update: I had the valve cover gasket on the passenger side replaced. It lasted 6 months before leaking again. The dealer replaced the valve cover gasket again. That repair lasted about 2 or 3 months before it started leaking again. Same spot every time. I'm concerned there is an issue with the head.

The dealer is going to open a "star case" and go from there. Pretty upsetting for a vehicle with less than 15k miles.

This is unfortunate. I had burning oil smell from within the first 300 miles or so. I followed the braking procedure, very meticulously, and noticed it would get bad when I was on a descending slope or decelerating on level ground. I was able to scope the motor and found both head gaskets leaking, which took a few visits to the dealer to convince them what the issue was until was able to provide a recording of the locations. They did the repair, and I have not had any issues yet and I’m just about to hit 19,000 miles. I would say with what you’re experiencing, there may be an issue somewhere, and perhaps, hopefully it’s a simple as a cracked valve cover gasket as they are simply thermal formed.

Yeah I think best case scenario, I had multiple defective valve cover gaskets. Or the valve cover itself has a defect that they didn't catch.

I suppose it's possible that the head is somehow damaged. Although, I feel like that would be very rare.

Not sure what else it would be.

Those valve covers are composite. I wonder if yours is deformed like you suspect. Push them to replace the cover itself.

The only issue i have is the rear Diff seems to be blowing Diff Fluid out the breather, gets all over the exhaust. that smells. and it only does it when i am on the freeway.

I'd bring it in for service, especially if it's still under warranty.

I actually did bring it in today, the issue i have is this is the dealership that built it. and they did not do a good job. no other good places to have it worked on locally. The Jeep Guy in Utah fixed all the issues, been fantastic since then. i am trying to stay on top on it. hard to find a good jeep service center. only has 7k miles on it
