🛠️ What did you do to your Jeep 392 today?

I need to see what flex I have. I have been on some big rocks where I was thinking it was fully flexed and I get out and it still has plenty of stuff left and rear is firmly planted.

What front diff skid is that?

I figured it was since I saw the cutting board on the other skids.

I rarely hit my front diff on anything so I just run one on the rear. My wife is wanting a front but I am trying to convince her that she just needs to pick better lines and the 1/2-1" clearance loss will likely make her drag the front even more. I told her she needs to get 37s. She is in a 2024 Rubicon X on 35s but thinks that my jeep is 100 times easier to handle off road because I am on a lift and 37s. Even when I drive her's and show her that I can get it through about anything, she still doesn't believe me. I am like "you just watched me in your Jeep"...lol...

However, after seeing the pinion protection on the NVM, I want it too.

I ran the Metalcloak differential skids front and rear. If I lost more than 3/8" ground clearance I would be surprised. Excellent insurance IMHO. Im on a 3-1/2" MC lift with Nitto 37's and had stuff marks on the differentials and feel like I know how to pick good lines.

I have their rear diff skid on both Jeeps. I believe I can easily run the front on mine but her stock lift has me wondering if it will help or hurt on hers.

I put on Rusty's skid on my Jeep 2 weeks before I had mine lifted and went out on 35s, 1 time and I swear, it was dragging on everything. That may be all associated with the weight of those skids. She has Artec orderd so it will be lighter.

Got to flex it out on a RTI ramp
Love the stance of your 392, what springs are you running? Looks like the EVO long arm, what skid are you running? Hows it handle on the street with the PSC? I have PSC Hydro assist on my 2005 LJ on tons and while its great in the rocks its a handful on the Highway...

EVO long arm with the 4.5 super soft springs. All the under armor is from Next Venture. The PSC does take a little getting used too like the lack/minimal return to center etc. However it is better than others that were recently installed (friends rigs) but that might be due to the just new style XDR box that was released in late December B2 K095X 22J041.
Still can go the speed limit (90mph+) when needed

Keep us posted
My update is that there is no leak. According to the dealer there was probably some coolant in the overflow loop and as I filled reservoir it most likely pushed that dormant fluid out.

Picked it up from the dealership and drove it home!

Do you have a build thread?
Thanks

Do you have a build thread? Talked to PSC about this kit coming out next month. Looks promising for the 392 and 37’s

Well, have not done anything yet, but getting stuff together. Mall crawler focused, I will probably never use this beast for its intended purpose, but I love it none-the-less. I really want to be able to sprint up on an off-ramp and blow the doors off whatever is nearby, but when that limiter kicks in, makes you feel like someone stole something from you.

So, Clayton performance coils, Bilstein 5100 shocks, and Hellwig bar are phase one. Improved control arms and steering components (clayton vs synergy) next. Definitely feels like it could use a bit more caster, but need objective look at that still.

And, please don't pass out, but 285/45R22, the reason is there are several AT tires that are H rated in that size. Most interesting one is Cooper Rugged Trek. I will call this setup my "sneakers" while the boots (17s) are at home in the garage for the weekends off-road.

Meanwhile, Magna-flow rock crawler just got delivered, hope I have time in the next few days to get that on. Deciding on what to do about PCM control, maybe Livernoise or DiabloSport, I have not given enough thought to this yet since I don't have the rim/tire combo yet anyway.

Spent a little quality time playing with the front of the front bumper today. Changed out the standard Warn Hawse Fairlead for a Factor55 along with removal of the Warn winch hook and replacing it with a Factor55 Flatlink E.

Meanwhile I discovered that the Mopar Grille Guard installed by the prior owner impedes on the winch from using the free-spool switch. 🙄
I will probably just let it be. Installing a new guard and mounting the lights will be more trouble than it is worth for the few times the winch will most likely be needed.

Looking good, that blue flat link looks nice!

Warn used to offer this kit at no cost I believe, it might be worth giving them a call. You can change the free spool lever from the old 180° version to the updated 90° version. You can also search for ‘Warn 100240’ and find it from other retailers.

That doesn't look like it can be turned at all. That means the winch cant be used.

It's a simple process to change the bumper loop for something higher. I have the Warn loop that is somewhat higher. Just a few screws from the top.

The winch can be used and works really well, but only electrically just not free spooled. Changing the loop wouldn't be a problem however the Ridgid lights are mounted super nicely on tabs that were welded on and look great so that would all need to be addressed by changing the loop which makes it a less desirable process.
I am going to dive into the 90 degree solution that @redbeard719 suggested, that would solve everything and making pulling cable out work as intended.

This is brilliant and a perfect solution!!! You get a gold star from me for this suggestion.
Do you know if I would have to open the winch to make the change or just change the handle? I can't seem to find any instructions online.

There will be a day you wish it could free spool out but I get the lights part. Hopefully the 90 fix works out.

Finally got around to installing Utah Design Foundry JL Steel Bumper Closeout Panels. Clean look - happy with the product quality!

I’m glad I could help find you a solution!

I haven’t had to do it, but I have read about it on the JL Wrangler forum. I think you may need to disassemble that side of the winch, but everything I’ve read about indicates it’s not a hard install to take care of.

Keep us posted and nice you get to install it!
