Trading a 2023XR for a 2024

I had a fully optioned Gladiator Mojave before my 24 392. The interior updates on the 24 feel and look much more premium, and are more aligned with vehicles in the $90K price range. The entire upper and middle dash of the 24 is covered in leather, all of the touch points such as around the headlight knob, starter button area, HVAC controls area, and even the grab handle on the passenger side. The previous years were all plastic and cheap feeling/looking, by comparison. They must've also done something to improve the steering in the 24, because it is very tight and doesn't wander like the previous years I drove.

Might consider looking if they had Punkn and black seats. But that ain’t gonna happen……

The 392 is not meant to be a refined luxury SUV. That’s what Wagoneers and Range Rovers are for. I love my XR 23 hydro with half doors/sky top. It’s been perfect. Would not trade it for anything. It’s the right amount of rawness, simplicity, excitement, and comfort.

I was in a similar situation. I had a 2022 XR that I ordered and got a great deal on. Had always planned on waiting as long as possible to get the last model year for the 392 since I plan to keep it for a long time. Two things happened -- the news that 2024 was likely the last and the lack of availability to order the SOT as an option on the 2024s got me moving to find one on a dealer lot. I missed the ability to order one with the SOT by just a few days. I am not interested in spending big $$$ on the Final Edition, either.

After a wide-ranging search and a LOT of BS from dealers with bait and switch and stupid markups, I was able to find one $5k+ under MSRP with the options I wanted. I just pulled the trigger. They also switched out my Borla exhaust.

The difference to me is more significant than many of the reviews have shown. The 2024 feels more refined on the interior, is noticeably quieter and the seats are more comfortable and the power/lumbar is fantastic (to me at least). I went with the Firecracker Red and the red seats complement it quite well. The steering feels much tighter on the 2024 -- maybe just because it is new -- not sure.

My girlfriend is much happier with it as well. Since we will keep it for a while, I am glad we went with this.

Was it the best purely financial decision? No. But we both feel like it was worth it because we enjoy the 392 so much.

Do it. You won't regret it!!

I had a 2021 392 and now have a 2024 392. I won't repeat what everyone else has said about the improvements on the 2024 but will offer this:

With the added features and nicer leather, my Jeep no longer feels like a kick around vehicle. Even my 21 felt like I could beat on it and abuse it. With my 24, I feel like I am babying it more - don't want stuff getting on the nice seats, wiping down fingerprints on that pretty screen, etc. I'm treating it more like I treat my BMW that has soft leather everywhere, even on the bottom half of the door panels. Maybe I'll get over it, but seems to be somewhat at odds with the mission of the Wrangler.
I totally understand that feeling -- it definitely has a different feel. I am ok with that to some degree. I am buying neoprene seat covers, etc as I do use my Jeep for Jeep things like camping, kayaking and towing boats, etc.

The red seats are definitely more comfortable than my previous seats. Leather feels softer, the adjustable angles and lumbar are also great. I'm not sure why, but it also feels like there is more headroom in the 24 with the crossover bar.

Mine definitely is not. I got it in October and it doesn't even have 100 miles on it yet. lol.

Anyone else drive your 392? If so you could make an argument for the electric seats. If you have kids and other people riding, you could make an argument for the airbags.
The wife drives it every now and then, but very rarely. I do have 2 kids, 17 and 13 that ride too. I do like the airbag safety. Thanks for replying!

I had a ‘23 for a couple months before it was totaled. I ordered in July and took possession right before Christmas. I’m glad I waited for the ‘24 and didn’t buy a highly discounted ‘23 or 20A. My Uconnect on the ‘23 was super glitchy. It constantly needed resetting and the off-road app would sometimes work and sometimes it wouldn’t. So far, The Uconnect 5 always works without glitches. I love wireless CarPlay. It’s noticeably quieter, but I haven’t had any time on the interstate yet. I’m 6’2” and the power seats are lower so I don’t hit my head on the sport bar anymore. The seats are definitely more comfortable (but still could be better). Antennae delete is cool…until the windshield cracks. Full float rear end and side impact airbags kind of sealed the deal for me. I really liked the ‘23 wheels but I actually like the ‘24 better.

My 2 cents, yes the ‘24 is better but if my ‘23 wasn’t totaled I’d still be driving it. View attachment 30411

Better than the Braptor for sure!

Thank you for your great insight! They have went up so much, that I would be having to take a pretty good hit. Yours looks awesome. I don't want to total mine, but I'd love to get a 24.

I guess everyones experience with the new bigger screen is different, I’m not saying it’s bad. I can’t speak for the 24-392 but I have a 22-392 and just picked up a 24 Rubicon 2 door, not because of technology or model year it was all about the color. I haven’t driven it much because of salted roads but I have been bombing around the back roads and I have noticed the new screen is more glitchy than my 22. I get a fairly consistent split second skip when playing music from my iPhone every 15-20 minutes, it doesn’t do it when just listening to the FM radio. I have resynced my phone, reset my phone nothing seems to cure it. Like I said it is a split second skip and if you’re not paying close attention you would miss it.
The other bummer is all the wasted screen that could be used. They could have made it so both front and rear cameras could be on together, or at least use the full screen with one camera. I’m sure some of that has to do with the format of the camera. The accessory gauges are spread way out to fill the screen making the screen look almost empty, they could have incorporated the pitch and roll gauges into the same screen. They could have also had the off-road pages as an option for split screen viewing. It just seems like with all the technology in it you can’t really do anything worthwhile with it. Like I said I didn’t buy it because of the upgrades but because I wanted Bikini Blue and when it came up for orders again a second hand Jeep was no longer a thought. None of this would stop me from buy a new Jeep (obviously) but it’s definitely not enough for me to trade in my 22-392.

best of luck with your decision, either way you can’t go wrong with a 392.

last note, I miss the dual ambient light controls in the 24. My 22 has the dual controls and I like my dash lights dimmed way down but the ambient lights brighter.
I really appreciate this detailed comment and the insight. I also miss the dual controls, as my 2022 had it, but the 23 does not.
I totally agree about the screen real estate utilization. I wonder if that is the next upgrade in a 2025. Fully make use of the screen with the cameras and other apps. They may also go all digital on the speedometer and odometer. BUT without a 392 in 2025, then all that wouldn't matter. As much as I would love to have the big screen and the interior refinements, it's not worth the loss of the V8.

That's the feeling I get when looking into getting the 24. I do love that about it. Glad to hear it feels more luxurious too.

All these response like this, really make it hard not to order a 24. Thank you again.

This is probably the best comment. I feel the exact same way on everything you have said. I hope I can talk the wife into it. Thank you for the great advice and detail.

Having a 2024 Rubicon X, I really thought I would miss the power seats and large screen on the 2023 392 I purchased. Regardless, we decided to get the 392 and figured we would build it and offroad the more difficult trails and us the X more for city driving and easier trails.

Almost 100% of the time, no matter what we are headed out to do, I grab the 392 keys.

Even coming from the TRX, I don't miss the bigger screen and power seats.

I have the SOT and it's way noisier than the 24 hard top but it really doesn't bother me. This comes from a guy that once dumped a X5M, 4 months after purchase because it had a slight wind noise coming from the passenger side A pillar.

The only way I would do a trade is if wouldn't cost me a penny, which is a far stretch since my 2023 is built and there is no way I would drive a stock one. It handles so much better on and off road than stock.

Honestly, just pull the trigger and do it. If I didn't get one of the 150 AEV 20As, I would have probably done it just to have the last production year.

Reading through this thread (and the fact you posted it to begin with) makes me think it will eat at you a little for a long time if you don't do it. The only exception is if it really isn't financially feasible (which I suspect isn't an issue since you posted the thread).

It will cost me a good bit more to do the switcheroo. Your signature says you have a 2024 392?

Yes you are correct, that is why I keep posting. It is eating at me!
Financially, I should be fine, it's just the thought of it. My wife is a penny pincher and I am not, so that makes it tough. Thank goodness she is though.
Thanks for the reply! I just need to pull the trigger.

I think we and you all agree you should order a 24. Please let us know when you do. Cheers! @AnthonyRI Mark Dodge would be a great dealer to order from. . .

Also worth checking with Koons in Virginia for the group orders. They were still offering great discounts as of last week -- still applicable if you are not going to order the SOT. They set up a specfici email for this: [email protected]

I bought my 2022 from them and everything was easy and straight forward.
