Service 4wd Light

Sooner or later an aftermarket company is going to cash in on this issue and come up with a fix that retains all factory functions. Atlas and Advance Adapters are on the right track and the route I’ll be taking once the warranty runs out. Until then it’s Jeeps problem, thankfully and knock on wood not a problem I have had.
 
I don't have a 392 yet and finding this thread is not giving me good feelings. I am not sure what the problem is but if I pay $100K for one and the TC fails and sits at the dealer for weeks I am going to be more than upset. Looks like there is no real fix for this other than a new TC. Is the new one any different? You don't build a $100K jeep with a known failure. My 22 Gladiator has not had a problem. I am not going to buy a 392 just to replace the TC and a D60 just to make it right. If the drivetrain can't handle the 392 then we have a bigger problem. I'll just keep my JT.
All mechanical things can have failures. The best thing you can do for your mp3022 is to follow the guidelines of use. Use 4H auto On road, use 4H PT for general off road, use 4L when doing aggressive or technical off road. This will maximize the life of your clutches. This doesn’t ensure you won’t have actuator motor failure. They can fail. Also do not run tires that are not very similar in size on all 4s. Do 5 tire rotations for your first time and always replace all 5 tires. The will also maximize the life of your clutches.

Or get an atlas or rock-trac with adapters…
 
Spending $100K on a jeep that has TC issues built in is not good and spending for a Atlas is not smart in my book. Not going to purchase a 392 with a TC that can't go the miles. I'll be doing more research on this before I lay down the green.

Not sure what TC issues “Built in” means but that TC is proven in 100s of thousands of Jeeps on the road. If you think that you are purchasing a Jeep void of technical problems because it is a $100k you are mistaken. 95% of the parts on a 392 are the same as the base 30K (maybe they are 40k now :ROFLMAO: ) wrangler.

I’m going with a Tazer and hoping I can defeat the clutch packs with Force RWD if they end up shitting the bed again.

My bike has this silly exhaust flapper valve. We remove it and plug in this doohickey so no codes are thrown. I wish we had something similar for the clutch motor.

You do realize doing this will put all the power on the rear drive train? It is not designed for that kind of power and other components are likely to fail. Just saying.

If someone has blown their Dana 44 rear while in Force RWD, please chime in.

I’m not waiting another 43 days for Jeep to fix my TC.
 
Dana 44's have been handling v8 jeep power pretty well since, forever... the 70's at least...
I feel you, but what was the last Dana 44 holding 470/470 stock? If you look at the specs of the D44 it is at its Dana published limit in a 392…
 
The new 44 on the 24s are supposed to be stronger. The TC thing is probably seldom. But a TC and diff should be a lifetime thing without real issues.

I never beat on mine. Daily driver and not a hot rod build. I do enjoy it and its an awesome vehicle. Honestly, this could happen with any vehicle, frustrated but not end of the world.

Learning about the TC clutches is not a deal breaker but just good to know going in. I would probably just run it in forced 2WD most of the time and avoid clutch wear.

I'm not sure the issue is the clutches wearing out.... most of the failures talked about on here indicate that it fails lock in 4wd (others report tire scrub and/or increased turning effort on pavement). That's not a failed clutch, which would slip, and not send power to the front driveline at all.

It seems to me that the actuation mechanism is the failure point. Forcing 2wd, might actually make it more prone to fail, since when they fail it seems you can no longer get 2wd at all.

Just as @Viking Jeeper said in the other thread, no idea of the long term impact of having the taser forcing RWD. It might be saving your clutches at the expense of the actuator motor…. I would ask zauto if force RWD is a setting they intended to have someone set and stay in all the time.

The actuator motor is the weak link in the other Jeeps platform with this t-case. If you look at high mileage JGC with the MP t-case the clutches are generally fine unless different tire sizes were run on the Jeep. It is the actuator motor that fails.

I'd like the answer to that but I think the Jeep engineers are the ones with the proper answer. I've always wanted to know, without speculation, why no 2wd in the 392. Is it to save rear axle? Is it safer because it's much harder to accelerate beyond the grip of rear tires?

I had the actuator motor replace also before the TC. Here's a rundown of the steps taken BEFORE finally ordering a TC, which took 4 months to arrive. Everyone's situation is different, but hope this helps others get accurate diagnosis and not fight for a year to get something done. No Tazer ever, no mods to vehicle, all stock daily driver.

Totally agree. Everything is different. My point is that the long term failure point is actuator motor then DTCM. Clutches are not necessarily the problem. Early failures can be anything.
