Service 4wd Light

I’m going with a Tazer and hoping I can defeat the clutch packs with Force RWD if they end up shitting the bed again.

My bike has this silly exhaust flapper valve. We remove it and plug in this doohickey so no codes are thrown. I wish we had something similar for the clutch motor.

I had this light come up this weekend and I was feeling the bind while turning at low speeds in 4auto. I have about 15k on the Jeep and the light came on after I idled for about 10 minutes. Outside temp was about 90. I used the tazer to force RWD to get home--which was hundreds of miles away. I'm curious about the long term impact too but I figured force rwd would do less damage than driving at highway speeds in 4hi (essentially). Once I was home, I used Jscan to clear all the DTCs and everything has been back to normal since. Hope to see a TSB or at least some official position from Jeep soon but not holding my breath.

Try this, put in park, turn vehicle off, open drivers door, close door, restart. Light off now? The hotter it is outside, the more likely the serv 4wd light would come on. Usually sitting idle. Def get this looked at, pull your tazer first.

hey all
Jeep at 48-49k
Back to shop for SRV4WD light back on
Haven’t used the Tazer since the TC actuator was replaced
Dealer ordered the new transfer case to replace, covered under power train warranty , on Natl back order.
Giving me back Jeep until TC comes in
/update

Symptoms? Just the light? 4WD still work? Crazy they just replace the t-case. But there is no such thing as a repairman anymore, just a replaceman. Hopefully they get the t-case in soon.

The light and chime, then, especially when it first went off, at low speed (parking lot) Jeep felt like axles were locked.

That is not the ever internet popular “worn out clutches” that is a a-motor or module failure, or even mechanical failure. When clutches wear out there is no issues except completely no 4WD.

Been there. Went through several days, okay, weeks, of our Jeep in the shop to troubleshoot the same issue. They replaced the tcase actuator motor, but your case makes me wonder if this was just a band-aid. Seemed like our issue might have been temperature related. It popped up twice after driving for 1+ hours in 90 degree temps, parking for a short time, then restarting. The issue (service 4wd light, locked up axles) wasn't present when the Jeep was parked, only showed up after it was restarted.

I know the Tazer can clear this SRV4WD light and the vehicle resumes normal operation, without the low speed issues, immediately . haven’t done so in quite awhile.

First time experiencing was on longer road trip. And I thought maybe heat related.

But, later (have had this issue off and on since <10k), I had her out in AZ this July for about 2 weeks with 110+ ambient daily and to my surprise experienced no issues.

We are on our third transfer case in 4000 miles. Started at about 18k and we have about 21k on it now. When it happened again last week my wife called me in tears. Maybe my shouldn’t have named her 392 Karen.
We still love her though!
I had a customer that bought a SRT Durango and bought the lifetime warranty on it. After seven years and 3 radiators, 13 motor mounts, two transmissions and a couple electrical failures, he got Chrysler to buy it back as a lemon. They paid him back the $57 grand he paid for it seven years ago.
I think that our Jeep has an electrical issue that engages the lockers.
We really hope that our dealer can get to the bottom of this. There bringing in an engineer from the factory to look into it.
I’ll update you when we find out more. Until then we’ll have beat down the 4Runner!

update
TC should arrive this week, so the turnaround wasn’t bad
I am the 33rd TC replacement nationally this quarter, with the supplier providing about 60 of these to Stellantis this quarter… I think, if I understood the parts guy correctly

+ for reference in the lifetime of the Jeep I haven’t messed with any of the Tazer settings for RWD etc

Sorry to revive what is probably an exhausted topic, but got the SERV 4WD light this weekend.

I was wondering if there is any updated information about this issue, such as they redesigned the actuator motor or whatever? (one can always hope, right?) I have a 2023.

Mine has done this 3 times. Each time was while offroading and occurred after I put it in 4 high. When I just stay in 4 low, it never has issues.

I have an Atlas on the way but not installing it until my tons and long arms come in.

Mine started while wheeling in 4 low. After parking for a while, it was off when restarted but returned after about 20 minutes in 4 high. Parked for lunch, was off at restart but came on again after short time in 4 high. So, I'm not sure that the mode seems to matter. Almost seems like an overheating issue (?).

I had this problem several times. The first few times I would feel binding in the drivetrain. The last time I had it the front wheels quit pulling and had to be winched several miles. After it set for a few hours it would be fine. I finally replaced it with an Atlas transfer case.

There is a TSB to address this. It does requires an active DTC, so hopefully you can get it in to the dealer while it's malfunctioning or shortly after.
