Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition Discussion

In case anyone was wondering, Scott Blum (Rubicon product manager) commented on a post in the 392 FB group noting the air compressor was built into the tire carrier, not the actual back door. He also seemed to indicate it would be offered as an aftermarket option from Mopar. I’d still probably get an ARB twin over what I’m sure will be an over priced under performing Mopar part.
What would be nice is that if one of the manufacturers designed a new tire mount with space behind the tire to mount an ARB twin.

I've been wondering if I could cobble something together to fit a couple of ARB singles inside the diameter of the spare...

That would be convenient to have in mounted in the carrier hidden away. That said I live in the Northeast so would rather have the compressor mounted under the seat inside the Jeep where it is not exposed to the elements all the time.

I think those who own a 2021 392 that are considering a move to a 20a because of potential collector value need to also evaluate if having the first model year of the 392 is as much of a possible collectors item. Simple fact is that yes, there will be less 20a edition models than 2021’s, but it’s not like they made 100k 2021 392’s either. Interested in opinions….

I have a 21 and I dont think it will be worth more than other years. I didn't buy it thinking that either. I love the Jeep and plan to keep it a very long time. My 2006 LJR is probably worth close to MSRP though.

Didn't some of the 21's also have a different tailgate badge or something? I could be remembering that wrong.

Anyway, have my appointment set to go in today. A local dealer is going to sell at MSRP to me (one of the big dealers I contacted yesterday is charging a decent ADM).

Incidentally, my dealer said yesterday every dealer gets 2 allocations for sold orders. Today, he said they lowered that to 1. I don't know if that's specific to his dealership since they're on the smaller side.

I always lust after LJRs when I see them. There was one in the parking garage when I was leaving work last night. I wondered if it was a 2006. This 20A with an 8 cylinder is in the ultimate jeep category for me, but 2006 LJRs are pretty much the real ultimate jeep imo.

TJs will always be the best run of jeeps/wranglers imo. Great mix of modern things but still not all complicated and computered out.

I have a 21 non XR. I WISH I would have gotten the XR package back then. I actually put an order in for a 2023 XR back last summer after seeing the Jeep Safari 20A concept thinking it would be (by default) a 20A I'd receive. Welp, after that sad news discovery I pulled the plug and kept 'in the loop' via market research. Now here I am.

For me, if I had a 2021 XR I would not get the 20A. I was really hoping for Dana 60's but at least I'll have the 4.56 gears. There are other cool attributes with the 20A, I do like the red & black seats and everything that comes with the XR package. I'm heading over to the dealership today. Hopefully I'll be able to see the complete breakout of what comes with the 20A. For example, will it have the upgraded wireless Uconnect with a 10" screen, though I doubt it after watching the release announcement. None-the-less, I will be putting an order in. My dealer said if I change my mind when it arrives no big deal, she'll easily be able to sell it.

Drop $115k to sell it later for maybe a 20-30% gain? Maybe? At best…
I’ll buy stocks instead. That has netted me more return than any car ever would have.

Good analysis, but like with anything, everyone likes something different. Thankfully, two 20A 392 options. Secondary market for AEV equipped jeeps is good. They sell well on the AEV forum.
Good to know. I’ve never understood the appeal of AEV, but I guess it’s just me. Seems like a crazy mark up for bolt on mods and a few stickers to me. But if people think even the upfit charge will appreciate over time, it may be worth it to them. Just not to me. Also, what stops someone from buying a 20 AE 392 without the “level II” and then sending it to AEV themselves? I think that will impact the rarity unless there is some indication in the VIN that it’s “special.” Just a thought.

You going to order red (assuming your avatar is your 392)?

I have a 23 XR in Sting Gray. I think I'm going to stick with that with the red interior. I keep thinking about hydro, but i just think it would look like crap with the red accents on the interior.

I think there will be a special plaque or something the way I understand it.

I agree with you though, someone can just send their 20A to AEV and get the same thing for cheaper actually lol (~20k on factory 20A, ~17k if you just send a JL to them).

The problem with this analysis is... long-term, Jeep collectors are going to consider the Level II as "not upfitted," since even though AEV is doing the work, the Level II Rubicon is a factory-offered package. If you were talking about something like those dogshit Starwood Motors Jeep "upfits" (more like downfits, since they're a smattering of shit all over a perfectly good Jeep), then I would tend to agree with you. However, since this is an OE-collaboration with Jeep and AEV, and is being "factory offered," that changes things.

Even without the collaboration in play, the resale on AEV upfits is typically stronger / higher than most other upfit Jeeps down the road. One of the AEV 112 stretched TJs just sold through Barrett Jackson for $27K and, if we are being honest, it was poorly marketed and BJ was probably the wrong place to sell it. When you look at BaT JK Wrangler sales, the AEV 5.7 and 6.4 HEMI-swapped conversions tend to be among the higher-priced Jeeps to sell on that site.
Agree to disagree. You’re talking apples and oranges… hemi swaps and stretched Jeeps are WAY different from the minor bolt ones that this “level II” is getting. Those jeeps would bring more money even without the AEV name on them. Also, the real question is are those AEV up fitted Jeeps actually bringing MORE than their original total price? I don’t think so. Especially not as long as AEV still exists and will still take my money to build my Jeep however I want it.

I believe it will be different, so I’ll be ordering mine without the LEVEL II. The beauty of it all is that you can order yours with it if you like (assuming that your dealer gets the order in quick enough).

I'm +/- on it. I haven't decided. If I decide yes and I can get one, then sweet. If not, I'm certainly not crying myself to sleep tonight over it.

So I'm guessing when we put orders in for these, the add ons/options are going to be minimal. Type of top, possibly half doors, trailer tow? Anything else major?

I have sting gray half doors and I'm going to be ordering the same color. Am I better off just keeping my half doors for the 20A or do I order them (if we can) and keep the half doors to sell with my current 392?

Not like I think it would be a big deal, but if I keep them, I'm worried some kind of thing like Dog experienced will happen.

I have a set of half doors that does not match well, from my experience and what I have learned, there is no reason to believe your current half doors will match any better or worse than they do to another Jeep. The Jeep line supervisor on Facebook did say they had better luck matching the non metallic colors, like sing gray.

That's what I thought. I'd like to think the batch of paint during production would have a better chance of matching, but the doors are done at some off site place, so I think you're right that it probably doesn't matter either way and I have just as much luck with a match going either way.

Just gave up my spot in line at the high volume dealer. Hope it goes to a good home.

My original plan was to go with the American Adventure Lab's ARB single mounting solution for the cubby hole below the cargo space.

A nice companion to this mounting solution is to install their Compressor Remote Kit. Key benefits are 1) it utilizes the space below the cargo area that isn't accessible when loaded with gear while still provide easy access in case you need to get to it, 2) will aid in baffling the noise of the compressor, and 3) will do a great job of protecting it from the elements. Potential con is heat build up. I know my ARB compressor gets HOT after airing up my 37s.

Check out their underseat mount for the dual ARB. Thats what I have. It can go under driver or passenger seat with options for switch and air chuck mounting. Yes, they get hot, I just slide the passenger seat forward to give the compressor some extra space when in use.

Thank you for sharing. I just checked it out and appears to be a clean and effective setup as well.
