PSC 392 XD Electric Power Steering Pump

You could go with a bumper mounted tire carrier. They can get a little expensive… but I have zero concerns throwing 4 gallons of gas, plus my spare 40” on there and hitting the trails. As an added bonus, it is way cheaper than buying an auxiliary fuel tank. Mine is by hyline, it retains the backup sensors, and it’s a beast!View attachment 32814

PSC video dropped today.
This kit includes new XD Electric Pump, HD steering box and hydro ram assist on a 392. Detailed install.

I’m waiting on video showing new XD electric pump and cooler only kit.
The $1,595 kit.
Real word testing with JL & JT with 37” tires.
Hi, question, are you looking only to upgrade the electric pump to work with the stock steering gearbox or use the upgraded electric pump in conjunction with the PSCs HD gearbox?

Only curious because the upgraded electric pump kit is virtually the same cost as their hydraulic pump kit acc9rding to the PSC website.

PSC will be in my future (my previous 2021 JLUR on 37s sucked turning on rocks aired down) but I'm going PSC hydraulic pump kit with theor HD box.

Good luck!

Great content...thanks for sharing... what are the main benefits to this set up over the stock in your opinion? Anyone test this and compare yet?

X3, hoping to find an electric pump that doesn’t overheat with 37’s. I’d like to keep the stock box if possible.
I only get over heating when IAT is above 42c and I am pushing it in to turns on the sand, otherwise I am running 37's on 17 Beadlocks, however if it goes then I will go with PSC Elect.

PSC hydraulic pump system adds a ram assist to tie rod. Steering will be a little different coming from a stock setup. You will loose a little steering feel. Nothing you can’t quickly adapt to, but different.
The difference with PSC XD electric pump, I understand to be, different mapping causing increased pressure at lower rpm’s to aid with larger tires. PSC is claiming they haven’t had any overheat with 37” tires. However offer no videos to show this system off.

If/when I finally upsize to 37”/38” tires, I’ll probably go with PSC XD electric pump along with their gear box.
Gear box just in attempt to avoid future issues.
Even though PSC is claiming no overheating issues, I’ll install an electric fan because we know it helps. I’ve had hydraulic ram assist and full hydraulic steering… not what I want for this Jeep.

Totally agree with you and waiting for some videos and real world testing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Even with the stock 315/70r17 that come on the 392, I had the steering get hot and reduce pressure when I was offroading last weekend.

I'm in the sam camp that I want increase steering ability without a ram assist.

As I will be going to 38/12.50r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers I'll definitely need more power in the steering.

PSC has a new adventure kit for the 392 that combines the 392 XDR gearbox with their hydraulic pump kit minus the ram assist.

Think this is the way I will go.

I may be a Guinee pig for that new PSC kit sooner than I think. Last year on the Rubicon Trail, running 37s, the stock steering just was not strong enough in numerous places on the trail. And I got the overheat light while climbing Cadillac Hill. I added the Apex steering boost kit and steering cooler, and it has been "good enough" for local trails and Moab, but not all that impressive. A week from today I'll be camped at Buck Island Reservoir, halfway through the Rubicon Trail at this time, if all goes according to plan. Two days on that trail should be the acid test for my Apex kit. If it isn't up to it, I think switching to this PSC kit will be the next step.

Have you considered adding a fan to cool your electric pump?

Just looked at this kit. May be a good solution. Please report back if you do go that route.

No. I am concerned that the fan would not be robust enough to handle the heat, water splash, and everything else that occurs that low in the engine compartment.

Been following this thread and it is a shame to have these issues on a $100+K vehicle that is advertised for off-road. I have used 2 great shops for my JL370 Rubicon and Mount Zion is one of them. This is their install of the PSC Adventure kit. It is pricey, but the results show this may be the right kit.
