PSC 392 XD Electric Power Steering Pump

I have 2 friends that have your setup and I know you’ll be fine with the same Rotopax mount that I we all use. The trick for you will be to empty your RotoPax tanks when you have room in your gas tank 😉.

Better yet, invite a friend with a truck and ask them carry the gas 👍

Oh, another alternative would be to look at those fuel bags… but you would need to carry it in your Jeep. The soft top and a cargo shelf is perfect for this.

Here are a few photos from a 5-day trip to Canyonlands National Park. I averaged a little over 5 mpg and carried an additional 14 gallons of gas + water + gear.

I like the looks and functionality of that system quite a lot, but I'm not excited about the protrusion on the side when going through some off cambered rocky sections on the Rubicon for other trails.
My fear is also hitting it and ripping off the cargo window. I have them but have yet to put gas in them.

Anyone installed this?
Looks like it has recently become available.

Sharing my disappointment by quoting directly from PSC:

"A pump kit alone would be appropriate if the most aggressive terrain the vehicle typically navigates are the speed bumps in the Wal-Mart parking lot to pick up groceries and running 35" or smaller tire sizes."

I have the PSC cooler, gearbox, and belt driven pump. It’s a significant difference over stock. I don’t think my needs will ever require the hydro assist ram.

I contacted PSC… they claim to have an install video being released next week on YouTube with performance info for their new XD electric system.

Who did you talk to at PSC? That was not what I was told, their shop Gladiator on 40's has been running that pump system for a year off road with no issues was what I was told. If thats true that is a bummer...

I believe the correct answer is to take all that off and go with complete PSC hydro kit.

I was really looking forward to this being a solution if I get the heat warning with the 37s I am planning to install. This is disappointing if accurate. Hearing this makes me think some further discussion is warranted with PSC if I cross that bridge and need to make an upgrade decision.

I called in last week and heard the same, but then I was sent the bigger kit and their support (no name) told me what I quoted via email when I asked why they charged me $4k for something else when all I needed was the $1500 kit. They doubled down on for 37"+ the $4k kit is the only way to go.

I get the heat warning (for electric, not hydraulic) on my 35's when aired down and am planning on going bigger so yeah I was excited too.

That may be a bit if an overkill for 37” tires, unless you are a hard core crawler. I’m sure it works, but an upgrade electric pump seems like a good alternative. PSC should incorporate a forward mounted fan.
Fan seems to be helpful.

Agreed if you have not had a Jeep with PSC Hydro steering its great off road but completely changes the way it drives/handles on road which is not something I want to do to my 392 at this point...

My LJ, I started with PSC hydro assist when running 38” tires. When I went to 44” tires, hydro assist wasn’t enough in serious rocks, so I went to hull hydraulic steering. That’s great for off-road, but will wear you out on longer road trips.
And, yes you are correct in that hydraulic assist changes on-road characteristics, you loose some feel and return to center.

I spoke with a PSC yesterday about their new XD electric pump for our 392's.
I asked how the XD pump compares to the stock factory pump...... I was told it is very similar to the factory pump but with added aluminum cooling fins. However is reprogrammed to flow at a higher rate, especially at lower rpms.
PSC does recommend to also using their fluid cooling reservoir.

PSC has been testing the new XD pump on a JL and a JT, both with 37" tires, in offroad situations.
Guess well if PSC drops a video next week on Youtube discussing XD pump?

$1500 for... cooling fins?

I think it is more pressure that makes it easier to turn bigger tires rather than volume.

Volume/pressure…. Better?
I don’t know what I’d do if upgrading today?
Maybe PSC video on new XD pump can help clarify?

Question. My power Steering is locking up when I hit the throttle. Its only started happening recently. As soon as you hit the throttle the power steering fails. At first we thought the power steering pump, however this is fine, then the alternator as when you move the steering wheel when no locked voltage drops from 14 to 12 quickly. We change the alternator, problem still there. It's not a fuse. Any guesses from anyone?
