Anyone installed this?
Looks like it has recently become available.

The electric power steering pump on the 392 is a blessing and a curse. The pressure is too low to drive big tires aired down on rocks. Increasing the pressure causes the electronics in the pump to get hot and send out warnings. Many people think it is increased fluid temperature that is causing this problem but from what I have heard it is actually that the electronics board on the pump itself is overheating. I've heard of a couple companies that are working on improving the situation and I'm glad to see PSC has come out with a new pump. I wonder what the specifics are of it such as operating pressure and if there is any increased fluid flow.

I was talking to my neighbor yesterday about the issues with the stock PS. He is a mechanic and he asked why everyone didn't just put an oil cooler on the pump and I stated I don't know. Do we have coolers now? It looks like the PSC does.

As stated it is because the fluid is not that hot. I think someone here put a fan that cools the entire pump that had good results.

There are a couple of good write ups on the Apex steering boost kit for our 392's and it comes with a cooler. It's an improvement over stock setup but if you are in the rocks there are complaints about it still getting hot (Hot Steering Warning) even with their cooler. I know a couple of guys that have installed an electric fan and said it made a significant difference but the PSC kit has the same pressure as the Apex with an upgraded pump and their cooler is the same one I have used with their hydro assist kits that does fine. I spoke with them last month and they had several people putting this new kit to the test before releasing it. Hoping this works well with 37's as I don't want a Full Hydro assist kit on my 392 at this time...

As unstated, wouldn't everything be cooler if the fluid is cooler? ;)

That sounds like a solid solution. I know of a couple of times that I have been in the rocks and barely moving and I can't turn at all. I have never got a hot steering warning though.

Assume PSC is a larger, more powerful pump?

I talked to the guys at PSC last week, they have been running the XD steering setup on their Eco Diesel for the last 8 months with 40's and have had no problems with overheating. The PSC cooler is made to be mounted under the front crossmember. It just started shipping, you can also buy just the pump and fluid and use your own cooler which is what I will do, had good luck with Sertrab's coolers in previous build. Be interested to hear any feedback if someone has any experience with the PSC XD kit.

If you talk to them again I would be interested in knowing what the difference is. I think they are running at about 1800psi, and would like to know how they keep the pump from overheating. Maybe it has a built in cooling fan which would be nice. Sounds like you may be oe of the first to install one.

There is no fan but easy to add one if needed later, Tony that I spoke with did not mention a fan and sounds like the JT they are running it on is loaded with gear. I have a lift and some other steering upgrades in my garage but don't have wheels or tires yet so probably will not have the XD kit until summer time. Did you get your Rockcrawler exhaust from hottexhaust?

I have not received the exhaust yet. Hottexhaust said they hoped to receive it about 3/15 and would ship it to me about 5 days later. Fingers crossed. Wondering if I can have an auxiliary fuel tank made and tied into the existing tank. I think it could be very low profile and hold maybe 4-5 gallons. I do not want to add additional weight to the tailgate hinges beyond the 37" tire already on there, and am not excited about having fuel tanks hang off the rear window. I may try a "Sea Sucker" mount somewhere but really would like to be able to carry extra fuel.

Good luck on your build.

I have not heard a peep from hotte

I have not heard a peep from hottexhaust but as long as I get it by May I am happy. I hear you on the fuel, will be curious to see how fuel consumption is on the Dusy and some other long trail we run. I have 2 Roto's for now but 4 gallons is not much, Do you wheel in the High Sierras at all? I see you are in Los Altos, right in between the Sierra National Forest and Rubicon.

Genright offers a 25 gallon fuel tank for JL. Eliminating rear muffler, may work? Maybe even along with your stock tank?

I have PSC’s full cylinder assist kit and I love it! Unfortunately, it’s overkill unless you’re wheeling all the time or have 40’s.

This new one looks like they added a new external pump so they could run fluid to their gear box to keep it cool. I’d ask them if this new pump will replace their engine-mounted (belt driven) pump or if you’ll need to upgrade the pump (to their belt driven version) if/when you add hydro-assist cylinder.

Outside of that, I wouldn’t hesitate. The steering box alone is a big upgrade over the OEM.

Have you thought about using a TrailRax? Nice solution to carry fuel on outings and then remove.

I like the looks and functionality of that system quite a lot, but I'm not excited about the protrusion on the side when going through some off cambered rocky sections on the Rubicon for other trails.

You could go with a bumper mounted tire carrier. They can get a little expensive… but I have zero concerns throwing 4 gallons of gas, plus my spare 40” on there and hitting the trails. As an added bonus, it is way cheaper than buying an auxiliary fuel tank. Mine is by hyline, it retains the backup sensors, and it’s a beast!

Boy, you weren't kidding about the cost of the auxiliary fuel tanks. I looked into those and they're $2500 plus. I think the day will come when I replace my factory steel bumper and reinforced spare tire holder with a real bumper and tire carrier. I think I'll wait until mine gets damaged though. Even though I have the reinforced tire carrier, I just feel I'm pushing it with the 37 inch tire and strapping on, a couple spare fuel tanks might be the straw that broke the camels back. I am actually looking at a very strange solution, which is using the Sea Sucker Rotopax mount and stick it to my rear window. I have measured it and one on each side of the spare tire should fit. I would just remove the Rotopax when I needed to open up the back of the vehicle. They seem like they are very easy to put on and off. Definitely a Band-Aid, but not a big dollar item and I can reuse the Rotopax tanks when I go the new bumper route.

Your set up looks excellent.
