Problems with the 392 Rubicon

I don't endorse this vendor in any way, but this has been an issue since the JK's and probably prior, replacing the bolts can help. I installed a similar kit on my JK and plan on replacing the bolts on my JLUR when it arrives as well.

The hardware is fine, it’s the thin bracket holding the lower control arm on to the frame that is the weak point.

I have my 392 for a month now and i have noticed the muffler is tilted to the right. I keep ignoring how it looks and told to myself that perhaps that it is okey. Until I realized that this jeep is so expensive and those folks (Jeep production) do not pay attention to something like this. The two exhaust pipes located at the left side are touching the frame. I have already brought it in to the dealership where i bought it. The service advisor told me that he had ordered the bracket that would correct the alignment (fit) of this muffler. So, for those folks who are still waiting for their order...pay attention to this potential muffler issue...

Mine is exactly like yours. I cant believe they would think this is OK. It looks awful.

My muffler was easy to straighten by loosening clamps on pipe and then twisting muffler. Did not have to adjust tips

Agreed; itching to fix mine as soon as I can pick it up

Please yes!!! I still haven't seen another 392 in the wild!
I saw my second other 392 yesterday. First one is in my girlfriends neighborhood, second was at Costco . I thought Costco was for people searching for great deals and buying in bulk, we saw a 392 when we walked in and we had two Porsche Cayennes next to her Lexus when we came out. Must be the gas prices, everyone is looking for bargains.

Gotta go cheap on household so we can spoil our jeeps!

My only complaint with the 392 is the dipstick (no, not me.) The oil dipstick. The crosshatch area on the tip for taking a reading is so small, little bigger than a thumbnail, it's hard to get an accurate reading on it.

Oh another complaint- I only have one 392.

Was washing the car and discovered this today on the passenger side wheel.

Mine is a 2/21 manufactured (JL tag on gate) - absolutely zero issues except me leaving the One Touch open during an overnight pouring rain. Took a week to dry out.

I had my steering lock up yesterday. Light rain, 40 mph, next to a lake…. This is a problem that will gain your attention quickly. Tapped my brakes, then steering resumed normal ops. I was not driving through puddles. Quick google search revealed this was a JL problem from a few years ago.

By lock up do you mean loss of power assist steering?

Looks like slinging grease from outer CV joint. I would clean all that up and inspect boot for tears. Check tightness of outer clamp. Maybe it is loose because almost looks like grease oozing past clamp....

I would be worried that it has lost a significant amount of grease that would compromise longevity. I would take it to dealer and get it taken care of whether that would amount to repacking the joint or replacing entire half shaft.

Not likely an emergency at this point as those joints don't really do anything when going straight. Likely first symptom of failing joint would be noise when turning. The balls inside the joint start turning when the joint is at an angle. They make noise when they get dry.......

My JK driveshaft would start spitting grease from seals, rubber would split, get hot, spit more grease., then start making noise.... Never had joint completely fail, but I would replace them as soon as I noticed boot was torn. The Rzeppa joints on the driveshaft and axle shaft are similar I think.

So no need to rush and do anything this second. I'd probably just take pictures to show dealer...Wipe everything really good and inspect boot and outer clamp and go from there.

Thanks and great information. I took it in Monday and they are replacing the shaft. Should have her back by EOW. Interesting that the serv 4WD indicator never came on. Good news is it happened at some point last week as I was up under the Jeep the prior weekend and no leaks were present. I’ll post any additional details once I get the full paper work back.
