Order status and Jeep chat

Well, I have to deal with the mark up. I contacted my dealer instead of the other way around. They are letting me apply the deposit I gave them when I signed for my 22, but I'm not getting any price protection since my 22 was nonXR.

Anyway, mine was in 'order received' status. So basically nothing had been done yet. My order went in April 27th just before the banks closed.

If that extra money isn't worth it to you to get XR, then I would just say stay where you are. My personal thought is that if I'm paying that much already, I want the XR, so the extra $ is worth it to me.
Yup- totally get it & makes perfect sense. I was under the impression that you'd been contacted by them...as others here have reported that it's happened (usually XR builds). Personally, mine won't see any crazy off-road stuff that the non-XR gears can't handle, and I'll be swapping out the wheels & tires immediately to ones I like better with 35's wrapped around them anyway- so no need to pay for anything extra I don't want. Admittedly, I'm still very curious to see what a potential 10A package might bring in '23 (I happen to dig the red seats!).

Yeah unless you really want XR you'll be happy with where you are. While I feel you get a lot for the XR package it still is 4k (in addition to the 23 base markup over 22). If you just want to throw on some wheels/tires I'd say stick with the nonXR you have. I actually like the non XR wheels better, but I really like getting all that stuff on from the factory under warranty.

Also, you're further along in the build process than I was since mine basically didn't change at all since the day my order was placed back in April.

I am encouraging everyone I can NOT to get the XR package. And no, it's not because I don't think it's worth it, it's because I want there to be less of them out there. :) I absolutely love mine after only 2 days and I am insanely glad that I bit off the extra $4k. It's set up nearly perfectly for me. I MAY go up to 37s or 38s, but I actually really like the XR wheels, and they will handle Nitto RG 38x12.50s and so can the 4:56 gears, so it's a win/win/win.

This thing is nearly 3 inches taller than my 2020 Rubicon was with 35s on 20" wheels, but it rides like a Cadillac in comparison. Not to mention this 470HP V8 is already getting better mileage than my 3.6 with a stick! Unreal. It's maybe just a tiny bit less enjoyable to drive an automatic, but the sound and sheer thrust of this beast definitely make up for missing the manual.

But yeah... I'd recommend that you stick with a non-XR. It's really not worth the extra cash. ;)

Cool- I hear you there. I guess I just figured since this will be a daily driver for me around the DC/MD/VA traffic hell...there's zero chance I'd ever move up to anything over 37's...and the reality is that I'll prob just stick with 35's. So the only thing appealing to me with the XR's are gears...and i'll be fine with the 35's. I'll most likely change out my fenders too since I love the current look of my MetalCloaks on my JK, so between my wheels & fenders...you won't know know if it's an XR or non-XR. :)

I too will slightly miss rowing the gears like I do on my JK, but I won't miss the lack of traffic passing power for sure!

If you're gonna DD it, you'll probably get a bit better mileage which could add up over time...especially in this current gas price mess (let's not go there though).

I've lived around southern PA, MD, VA a lot of my life so I know that traffic you speak of..that stop and go is killer. I'd keep the exhaust dampener OFF in that traffic just on principle alone. haha.

Exactly! I've already decided that I'm just going to sell my Duramax GMC and look for some fun little muscle car or sports car with a manual to get my clutch pedal fix now and then, because to be honest, commuting in a manual isn't always my favorite anyway.

Also, I have always envied those Jeep guys who can ride with their feet out on the outside foot pegs while coming to a stop. haha. I always had to yank my foot back into the Jeep to shift, which was mildly annoying. No more!

I have my YJ to give me my need for a 5 speed. While I've accepted autos on JKs and later, I'd never be caught dead with a CJ, YJ, or TJ that was anything but manual.

Also, just to expand more, I live in small town USA up in PA. I live near a bunch of trails and my commute to work is like 5 minutes. That's part of why XR works more for me. Daily in NOVA on the beltway? I'd almost think non XR might be better for that tbh.

Yeah, the 392 XR is definitely my first automatic Jeep. And to be fair, I don't have a commute at all (I work remotely unless I have to go to court or hearings/depositions and 90% of hearings and depositions are remote since covid...) So it technically wouldn't matter for ME, but my wife is also in love with this thing and she prefers the auto (even though she drives a stick as well).

I've considered picking up another TJ with a 4.0/5speed to play around in, but I figure if I ever have the Jeep itch, I'm going to have a hard time not hopping in the XR. :)

For sure. Also, I say "daily", but I'm actually lucky enough to conduct my business from home- so I really only have to drive when I want to or occasionally need to be at the office. I have a feeling I'm gonna be looking for excuses to take the beast out regardless...if it ever gets here. It'll be worth it, as I really miss the 392 I had in my 2020 Scat Challenger. For now, I'm scratching the speed/power itch with my wife's Jag F-Type. :)

Even though I ordered in Feb, I'm still in "D" status, and zero has been done as far as I know- so who knows if I'm any better off than someone like you who ordered just before the cutoff in April. FWIW, I ordered from Koons Tysons' here in NoVa, and y'all will be the 1st to know if/when I hear anything.

I used to do the same thing with my Hellcat Challenger. I bought it two months before the world shut down for Covid and it just sat there getting no use. Every once in a while during a particularly stressful day, I would take it out and scare myself back into reality (with a huge smile on my face) and then go about my day.

Koons is who I work with too. I got my 2016 75A from them and had nothing but a great experience. When I find a dealership that does me right, I'll drive to get to them. Same with BMW. I don't buy from my locals...I drive to Rallye up on Long Island in NY.

So if you want to do what I did, I'm sure it's an option for you. I did the same thing back in 2016. Decided I wanted the side airbags on my JKU after I had already placed my order. They just put in a new order, transferred my deposit to the new order, and sold the original order one off their lot when they got it. They're such high throughput it's not a problem for them at all.

No dealership ever: Oh no, please don't give us another 392 to sell off our lot! LOL

Plus I like to think (maybe it's not true but I like to think it), that they give extra consideration to us who go through their forum/online ordering.

Well she’s finally here. My salesman just sent me this. He said the truck just pulled up. Picking her up tonight after work. So excited, almost 7 months!

Is it sting gray? That color has grown on me a lot.

Yes it is. Crazy how it looks so different in different lighting. Sometimes they look very light and other times they look dark. I am with you, when I first saw it a few years back on vehicles I wasn’t really a fan, but the more I started seeing it the more I started liking it

My jku was gcm which had a similar effect. It was a 75A and I always regretted not getting Sarge a little bit, so Sarge with the 1941 graphic is what I ordered on my 392 to make up for it.

Nice, we were in between Sarge and sting gray also. They both look great with the bronze accents in my opinion. When did you order? And do you have an ETA yet?

Well, I had a ‘22 nonXR order in April 27th…didn’t make it very far in the build process. I’m switching it over to a ’23 XR...just finishing up the final things like taxes and what not with my dealer. Order should go in officially tomorrow. So I have a looooong wait ahead.

Sweet, at least you got the XR. That would suck not to be able to get that. The wait was awful, but I hear it’s worth every minute of it. Lol

Yeah XR saves me money in the end because if not, my crazy ass would probably be sending it off to AEV. :sneaky:😂

Don’t get me wrong, the wait is miserable, especially once you get your heart set on this thing, but once it does arrive, it doesn’t disappoint!
