So, about how much does the oil filter hold, about 1/2 quart?

Usually about 8 ounces. It’s not much, but I never measured it. I count out the oil prior to fill then hit the filter, spin it on then dump the rest into the crank.

I’m all about efficiency.

I have not measured it either.....but fill it s l o w l y. It takes a second to fill through the filter. Put a little in, wait then fill more. Repeat. If you fill fast you may end up with a mess.

Me too. With two Jeeps and a truck my previous approach was to ALWAYS have at least the next oil change on hand even if I just did it this morning. Recently I switched to being ready for the next two oil changes in each vehicle.

Has anyone tied this? Flooring the accelerator while hitting the start button? The article says that will shut down the fuel injectors allowing the engine to crank on just starter power and get oil flowing. I'm not going to be the first one to try it!

The only thing I have done for extended storage is Sta-bil in the gas, drive a few miles to get it though the fuel lines, then pop each plug, squirt about 2 ounces of marvel mystery in each cylinder. Never had an issue, other than a little smoke upon the first start up.

I have on the TRX. It’s pressing the accelerator all the way down, then press the start button. The article talks about storage but I also did it at each oil change to prime the oil pump. I’ll give it a go on the 6.4L when I change the oil this weekend.

It works on most vehicles since at least 2008. Hold the brake and press the gas all the way down while turning the key or a press of start button. Goes through a crank cycle. Dodge used to call it “clear flood mode” and was intended to push water/fuel out of cylinders. Can also be used to build oil pressure. Works on the Jeep. Did it on first oil change.

So buy oil like milk and make sure it’s fresh?

I have read other oil producers state that oil does not change over time so its strange to me to see an expiration date on the Penzoil but there is a date on the 6 quart boxes I have bought from Amazon.

I’d say it’s purely for making money. Just to get people into the dealers more often for oil changes. Usually the simplest answer is the correct one. I have had numerous hi performance cars from the factory with very high strung motors that only require at most 1 change a year. This is just a basic 6.4 hemi that is not high strung by any means of the imagination. You could go a year or two without an oil change (synthetic) and be perfectly fine. Will I go over a year no but you could. Black stone labs wrote up a good discussion on this a couple years back even saying a year interval is very conservative for most vehicles with synthetic oil.

Just picked mine up a couple weeks ago in Detroit and drove it home to So Cal. Got my first oil change this week at 2,500 miles.
