Kill Switch

Would this work by wiring into the Aux switches?

I don't think so. This switch disconnects the power feed to the ignition button. So I don't think the Aux switches would be powered.

This is the way! I signed up on the TRX forum this afternoon and he and I have messaged a couple times already. I've paid him and he said it should ship later this week. Not that I'm in a big hurry, as my pile of parts continues to grow. 🤣
Did you get your switch? Installed? How is it working? Need to put one on mine. Thanks

So question I have. Looking into stolen 392s, it seems they get in (however) and pull off the glove box and using a wire harness there and whatever tech they clone your FOB. Question being I guess, does this mean they have to have the FOB “in proximity” and they then push the start button? Or do they actually have a FOB and can just use the remote start feature and bypass having to push the button, which means the kill switch is useless. I’m no expert, I may be all wrong in my thinking here, feel free to correct me but I’m admitting to my lack of knowledge in how to steal a car upfront, lol. Thanks!

They tap into the CAN bus behind the glove box and use a device that sends commands directly into the Jeep’s computer effectively telling it to unlock the system just as if your key fob is present. They’re directly wired into the Jeep’s computer and hacking it. They then start the Jeep normally with the push button start. That’s all in the computer system, not mechanical. The kill switch mechanically breaks the electrical connection to the ignition so even with the computer hack pushing the start button does nothing due to the broken mechanical connection.

Is this something unique to Wranglers and/or Stellantis vehicles, or is the same mode of theft possible with a 4Runner, Tahoe, F-150, etc.?

It’s pretty much an industry-wide problem for the most part. Do a Google search for “can bus injection theft” and you’ll see what it’s all about. For Jeeps it‘s easy to get into the can bus with the plug in behind the glove box. For some manufacturers there’s easy access behind the headlights, etc.

Does the IGLA security system stop this approach?

Or the Ravelco pug system? (Loose remote start)

Well that being said I wonder if there is a plate or something that can be installed to make access just a little difficult. Prob a thread on that somewhere.

Not sure about the IGLA myself. My admittedly loose understanding of it is it’s computer based, but I suspect it would still function properly so long as it’s component(s) aren’t ripped out or mechanically bypassed/jumped by a would-be thief. Again, that’s just an assumption on my part based on the small amount I’ve read about that system without any research.

The Ravelco is entirely mechanical. I have one installed, as well as two forms of hood locks. The Ravelco mechanically interrupts the electrical connections to multiple components necessary to start the vehicle. In order for a thief to bypass it would take hours under the hood tracing the wiring and splicing everything back together correctly. That of course doesn’t stop a thief who is just going to flatbed and tow your Jeep away, but it makes drive off theft incredibly difficult and time consuming. The more cumbersome you make it for the thief, the more likely they’ll move on to easier targets.

I remember that approach being mentioned in a thread or two somewhere. That would make that access point more difficult for sure, but the reality is all they need to do is find any wiring that is tied into the CAN, like accessing the wiring behind the headlights with some manufacturers I referenced above. For the Jeeps, I suspect it wouldn’t be too difficult to find another CAN access alternative even if the glove box bus bar was covered/locked up.

Just Curious - Wouldn’t this stop a thief from simply driving off with our 392’s so quickly / I am in no way an expert and extremely concerned at this point and looking for several options - Thinking this might be the first quick option as I research a higher level of security for this vehicle further….

Adding: I know if they truly want it bad enough they will find a way to steal it - just looking for steps to make it more difficult, cumbersome and a time consuming project for these scumbags!

How many have tried this Kill Switch solution?
Looks like a great idea?
Am I missing something?

I was not interested in a club. But some use them.

Yes I understand as I am looking for a permanent solution as well….Was just curious if anyone was using these temporarily in effort to slow these scumbags down - I am thinking it might be a good idea to have this until I have a permanent solution figured out - There doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all answer as I continue to follow here. Any help for a SOLID permanent solution would be greatly appreciated✌️

It seems the IGLA system is highly used as is the Revalco. I don't have either. Might want to investigate them for a permanent solution.
