So on the TRX forum, I learned that a simple kill switch could be added without cutting into the factory harness and still retain remote start, so added it to my TRX. I then took apart my 392 dash to expose the start stop button, and I found it has the same wire pattern. So I made one for the 393. Hiding the switch is up to you as to where to locate it.

The picture shows the harness I bought and you only use 2 connectors and some of the wire for the remote switch. I used a quality SPST switch. Took about 1 hour to modify and install. Pulling the dash is easy (YouTube it).
The red wires are the wires to connect to the switch. The green stripe wire and the red stripe wire get soldered together.
I used the grey wires from the kit to extend the red wires to the kill switch.

I used TESA tape to wrap it up. Including the connectors. This tape sucks to take apart.

Cost is about $70. Cheaper if you source the connectors and pins.

Forgot to add this:
On the connectors are a blue and an orange wire. These are not needed so I pulled them out of each connector.

Do you have a link to the connectors your purchased?

I bought the Fortin harness kit. Easy but more money. Search around, can find for less.

However, here are the connectors and pins.

Thanks for posting this Ted, I think I’m gonna go this route 😉👍✌️

Sorry if I am a little slow getting this. Did you replace the factory harness or use pieces from the linked harness to add a switch? I'm guessing the switch simply disables the push button. I'm very interested in this solution.

Use the pieces from the Fortin harness to make it work. No cutting of factory harness. The factory harness plugs into the switch. Unplug this and install kill switch harness between factory harness and ignition button.

Correct, kill switch disables the push button.

I hope this helps.

No need to spend $70 on the Fortin, just buy the custom wiring from the TRX guy, it's the same plugs.

Exactly what I needed. Thank you. I will try to get one from the TRX forum.

Why not use a trailer break-away switch? They look nothing like a conventional switch and if thieves get use to looking for a hidden toggle switch up under the dash is going to be obvious when they see it. I bet you could mount a break-away switch on the dash in plan sight and nobody would have a clue what it does even better under the seat and it wouldn’t get a second glance.
The down side would be that you would need to pull the pin in the switch to activate the power and install the pin to kill the power. It would be more effective the opposite way but who is going to realize that is the kill switch and that they need to pull the pin to activate it.EB43B919-0FB6-491D-9B68-C700E7F826D3.jpeg
You could easily leave the pin in the glove box and when you park the Jeep somewhere just snap the pin in the switch to kill the power. Without that tether cable it just looks like some control module.

Curious if, the way this is set up, would toggling the switch while the jeep is running have any effect? As in, would the jeep turn off if you accidentally hit the toggle while driving?

I used to do a lot of work with reed switches, and I always thought it'd be cool to have a secret magnet that you stuck somewhere (or removed from somewhere) that would serve the same function as the kill switch. Think like a cool figurine or decal that when added or removed from somewhere on the dash would allow the jeep to start!

No the power button is just a contact switch, with the toggle off hitting the power button does nothing as the circuit can't be closed.

This is the way! I signed up on the TRX forum this afternoon and he and I have messaged a couple times already. I've paid him and he said it should ship later this week. Not that I'm in a big hurry, as my pile of parts continues to grow. 🤣

No shortage of options for us to slow down thieves. I recommend doing this kill switch regardless of which path you take. That's really nice of the guy on the TRX forum to do it for $25. I'm sure he's had a busy holiday though!

Fyi the Fortin kit comes with an OBD2 jumper harness. I plan to gut it and make it a fake port and "hide" the real one.

Press on!

I just sent my payment. Right after I thought, what a great way to get the addresses of where high performance vehicles that are common theft targets are stored.

Same here. He said that he'll ship things out this Sat. I've been waiting for something this simple to come along & will feel much better about parking the beast.

Just an update...I received the harness yesterday and it looks very well made- practically OEM. Looking to install over the weekend!

Received mine but need to research a switch. Any suggestions On a discreet switch?
