Jeep 392 MPG / Gas Mileage thread

I don't think I have hit red line yet. I was trying to be humorous. I'm sitting in the dark ( power outage due to high winds last night. Operating on our solar panel powered battery backup.) Watching a buck chase a doe. (RUT) And a couple of young cow elk showed up this morning. Life is good.
Ah. Got it. I can be slow sometimes. Lol.

Life's good indeed! Glad you have that backup battery and hope power gets restored soon.

What psi are you running in your tires?
I run only 30 cause I'm on and off the beach. As well I stand to be corrected its more like 17-18 mpg on the hwy with the 37's. 8th gear turns about 1300-1400 rpm's. That crusiing at 64mph and no wind.

I'm at 8850 miles and my average "lifetime" with the beast is 12.5. This includes driving like I stole it, towing a trailer, city driving and a few highway trips too. I leave the fun button turned on 99% of the time. :-) That's why I bought it, I want to hear it and feel it. Well worth every extra penny for the crappy mileage. LOL. (1st gen, stock 3.73 gears and 33in tires).

Has anyone put 100 octane or higher in yet? Obviously unleaded. I’m sitting on a 100 gallons of it and I’ve been really tempted to try. Performance yes but minimal, I really just love the smell.
Careful, CATS don’t like 100 Oct, engine was not designed for it. Your CATS will start barfing up white gook and it can lead to engine codes for emissions.

Matches my experience to a T at 11K miles. 👍

Me too, I have close to 12k with 37s. Drove from TN to Savannah GA last night and got 15 mpg, but around town I get 11.5 - 12 so it balances out around 12.5.
My average for life of vehicle (never reset trip meter). 7100 miles 15.1 mpg. Have seen as high as 18 mph on hiway trips at 55 mph. Less on interstate at 75mph.

I went back and looked again and it was 14.7 mpg. Must be more influenced by recent behavior and not true lifetime. Those few launches should not have dropped it that much.

1600 miles on mine. Last tankfull of 93 gave me 16.1 mpg for the tank. No highway, all smooth, flat, hot Florida roads going 45 to 60. XR.
SHOJEEP

6,000 miles 2021 XR in the heat of Las Vegas…15.5 average. That’s about 50/50 city/highway, blasting the ac and fairly liberal with the skinny pedal. I averaged almost 18.5 on a road trip to UT, but that was only going 75-80 on the highway.

I hate to do this but I gotta call out this complete bullshit. No one is getting 18.5mpg at 80 on the highway in this brick unless it's a 5% downhill grade with a tailwind. Try again.

I agree, Vegas to LA at 75-80 I got about 14. Stock XR with the 35’s. I did remove the front bumper end caps which exposes the front tires a little more, but I don’t see that making all that much difference.

I’m about to road trip in colorado-New Mexico.
I’ll report on my experience.

I have a XR. stock. I just drove from Chicago to Atlanta and back. I got 15.7 doing 75ish most of way. At one point I was up to 17 on two lane country road in mountains running 60ish.

Around Chicago with practically no highway. I consistently avg 10...

So... While doing about 500 miles of break-in driving around town for a week or so after picking up my 392 in May 2021 from Parkway CDJR in Clinton Michigan (630 ft elevation), I experienced slightly over 20 MPG upon my first complete fill up. I was shocked when I reached 200 miles on my first half of a tank and hought the fuel gauge was malfunctioning. During my drive home to Arizona I achieved similar gas milage until I started gaining altitude and losing the availability of 93 Octane fuel when I hit New Mexico and beyond. The milage at that point was reduced to about 18 MPG on the highway. Upon reaching home in Arizona at about 4500 feet and running around town for a couple of weeks or so the average turned to about 16 MPG all while on the stock 33" tires. After installing 37" KM3s and a Tazer to adjust for the tire size change on the Jeep I have been averaging about 13.5 MPG here at 4500 ft on 91 octane and it has not improved since the tire and wheel swap over a year ago. Just my $.02 worth.

This is about what I see in Colorado.

I put .5 tank of 100 octane, once.
She seemed to enjoy it.
