Just got home from a 300 mile trip.
Mix of city (20-45), highway (60-85), country roads (25-50) and about 30 miles of unpacked (15-25 mph).
Altitude ranging from 5800 (home) to 13.6k.
Temps ranged from 58°-98°
Humidity 17%-51%
Normal driving, no throttle jockey work.
Nitto 35ā Terra grapplers set at 32 psi
Mobil 1, 0-40
Reset the trip & fuel
Overall average was 17.2
Live Display:
The highest I observed was 22, on cruise control at 55 and I think a slight down grade (hard to find ālevelā in Colorado)
Worst I saw was 8 mpg on the back roads and going up hill. A little throttle push and it dips below 6 mpg
Best I saw was 99, coasting downhill. Doesnāt count, but factors in to the overall average.
In the end, better than my 2012 JKUR ever got and better than most every other SUV or truck I owned. Except the GC SRT. Highway on eco and cruise would get about 22-24mpg
Fuel mileage can vary wildly
Too many factors and rough calcs show there can be as much as 30-35% variable in results.
Vehicle set up
Tires, psi, tread, age of tire, load range of tires (overall rolling resistance), exterior accessories, top off, top on, doors on/off. All will influence MPG
Weather
temps, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed/direction, etc.
Motor oil: feel free to debate.
Age of motor, and, break in procedure
Programmer, tuner, intake, exhaust.
Can I get 8-9mpg? Sure. If I drive as I prefer.
Can I milk it and push to get closer to 20? Sure, if I try and donāt have traffic or a head wind.
After youāve read all that, the short of it is, there are so many factors into an MPG, that unless you start developing a protocol and study the variables, youāre not winning any argument. At best, expressing opinions.
