Next Venture Motosports is making a full skid belly pan out of aluminum. They say that the net weight gain after removing the factory plates is 15-20 pounds. Cost is around $2500, $750 more than steel one. I figure the weight savings and not having to hauling around an extra 275 pounds with a steel skid plate is enough to justify that.

1/4" 5052 aluminum according to their site...they also say you gain 3/4" clearance on the gas tank plate....

I'm working with a local company to make a skid plate that is only for the oil pan. It Will probably be aluminum and if they really like the design will release it. Once I see if it works and they give permission I'll post pics and their info.

Fantastic! Exactly what I want to install as soon as available. Do not want full body skids for a variety of reasons, but I definitely want to protect the oil pan.... BTW- I'm in Michigan too so if this company needs another tester, I'm willing.

I was wondering the same thing. I took Physics, even Thermo Dynamics, so I know heat rises; but interfering with air flow in a very hot environment seems risky.

I was continually concerned about this during my off-roading in Colorado a couple of weeks ago. @Meet Head, thanks for the link!!!

Was up above Vail on a moderate trail this weekend and scraped my exhaust psuedo skid plate (factory one under the jeep...not rear exhaust). The little strip did its job, but I pretty surprised when I clipped it on such a moderate obstacle (dropping off a small rock lip...well, small to me). I will definitely be getting some under belly protection, just not sure if I will go Metalcloak steel or Next Venture aluminum. I am worried about heat buildup most of all and waiting for someone else to go first, ha!

Living in Colorado and 5 hours from Moab, the 392 will see some serious trails but not until that little oil drain is adequately protected. I looked at Rock Hard, Metal Cloak, Next Venture who all have skids on the market as of today with additional vendors coming out soon with skids. Looking at what is available today and overall, Rock Hard looks to provide the best protection including the resonators on the driver side, but at the expense of 275 additional weight. On the other end of the spectrum, there is Next Venture with an aluminum option and about 150lbs less weight than RH but currently nothing for the very exposed rear muffler. In the middle is Metal Cloak, under 200 lbs, metal, no need to rattle can coat after a rough day on trails, option for muffler. I chose Metal Cloak and expect delivery this Friday (2 weeks from placing order). If I can, I will leave off the gas tank skid from Metal Cloak and just install the oil/engine/tranyny/transfer skid and muffler too. I'll post pics once installed.
