Burning Oil Smell

Did you point out the leak in the final edition to the dealer? What did they say?

This seems like a very common problem. The dealer is looking at mine right now to figure out how to fix it and I have a star case open with Jeep. I should have more Info by Wednesday.

My engine seems to have developed a short starting cycle when it's warm at around 23k miles.
What is a short starting cycle?

The best way I can describe it is..my normal start up cycle is like....you can hear the starter crank crank crank crank boom. Started.

Now, when it's warm, you can hear the starter crank boom. Started.

The starter isn't turning as long to start the engine. If it had a key, I probably could just bump the starter and it would start.

I did mention it to the service person and sent the video but they didn’t say anything about it.
Here is the video, you can see the dry old drip.

I forgot to mentioned that I called Jeep Care ahead of time and they created a case to follow up, I mentioned to the dealership and offered the case number in case they needed it but they didn’t case much about it, should I update @JeepCares about the progress or just leave it?

Did you notice oil under the Jeep. I keep looking under mine , since it appears to be a problem for many.

No, at least in mine, it’s a small drip of oil, when it accumulates it burns and makes the burning oil smell but it’s not that much to leak to the floor.

Another way to check, when the engine is cold, try to reach with your hand the lower back corners of your engine, where the valve covers sit. If there is a leak you’ll get oil in your hand.

I stepped in the front bumper to be able to reach.

Mine pops off very quickly push and boom

Not a sure fire way to know if you have a leak. Mine simply created an oil burning smell. Was just enough that it was barely past the exhaust manifold.

Joining the valve cover oil leak group, I found it over the weekend, made a video, took it to the dealership today and they are waiting for parts now.
Mine was on the passenger side.
My 392 is not a FE though, it’s a 2024.

The funny part is that the dealer has a FE in the showroom with the hood open, I checked to see if it had the same leak as mine and it does lol.
Here are some videos of the leak.
Quick update on this, the left valve cover and gasket was replaced and so far looks good. I dropped the Jeep at the dealership on Monday and got it back on Thursday 8am, they did the job pretty fast.
Hopefully the new valve cover won’t leak, I’ll keep you posted.

According to the dealership, all the 392's leak:

"This is a characteristic of the 392 Wranglers. It is a seep and not a safety item. I'm not sure Stellantis deems this as a major issue at this point as all high performance vehicles have similar issues."

That's odd , then why are people getting leaks fixed under warranty ? It would appear that Jeep knows it has an issue.

I asked the Jeep Care person that was handling my case if they were aware of this issue in other 392s and she said they were not aware. I mentioned that in the 392 forum there are a good amount of users with the same issue.

I contacted another dealer today who is trying to sell me a wrangler 392 who said they are unaware of any issues.

I called a mopar speed shop that handles 392's and they tell me they haven't seen any issues with valve cover leaks specific to that engine.

I just called another dealer who sells a lot of high performance vehicles who said they haven't seen any issues in particular with the 392 either.

Hopefully it's not a widespread problem , I know several on this forum have had issues.

I wouldn’t agree with this.
No other 392 I’ve owned, and a few others I know, theirs don’t leak.

our engines leaking oil isn’t a normal characteristic of a high performance vehicle 😂 😂

However their response is a normal characteristic of a dealership service department.
