Alternative dealer for purchasing new 392 OTHER than Granger

My apologies for the experience. We've addressed that with our staff members involved.

In regards to the policy changes, we were audited by Chrysler and received a large incentive chargeback because of customers who did not register their vehicles in the state that they placed the order. We are obligated to make sure that happens and many customers didn't (i'd assume they flipped the vehicle). So we had to make this policy change to help prevent that issue.

I can certainly understand where customers are coming from as policies change, but we couldn't afford to do things the same way.

In regards to phone calls, I am often pulled multiple directions and email a lot of times is the best way to get ahold of me because of all the irons I have in the fire, so its hard for me to address the issues in a timely manner and insure a good customer experience.

Due to a mix up, I had to spend even MORE time with Eric on the phone today. Again, he was very friendly and pleasant and helpful. I certainly understand being audited and having to respond to that -- it sucks. I had an audit situation in my business a year ago and I never want to deal with that BS again. I guess I was going to have a better experience with Granger as I live in Oregon and we don't have sales tax here. I may be singing a different tune, however, when I have to do the paperwork to pay the gas guzzler BS Oregon tax to license the Jeep...we'll see.

@zach@granger You should probably be aware of the following as well.

I learned today that Eric ran my credit, which created a hard pull against my credit without my permission.

I got pre approved from BoA and supplied him with the official letter from them. When I arrived on scene, he told me verbally that “BOA didn’t fill out the pre approval letter correctly and needs my SSN”. I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

Until today when I looked at my report and saw a hard inquiry.

I never filled out a credit application with you. He told me he wouldn’t be able to beat the rate. This is against the law and against the FCRA. I’m not happy. I will probably appeal this. This is sleazy.

The fact that this Eric individual still has a job at Granger is troubling.

Put a freeze on your credit accounts and that will not happen again... You can do it on all the major credit companies. As an example:

That's a good idea, but legitimate companies/individuals shouldn't be doing hard credit pulls without your knowledge. The freeze is to prevent nefarious activity.

I understand your frustration, however the Bank of America Pre-approval letter does say that the dealership will ask for your social and run the report through our system to lock in the rate.

i do think that freezing your credit is a great idea though!

also, according to experian.com.. when car shopping or house shopping. as long as inquiries are made within a 14 day window, it will typically only actually count as one hard pull total but the inquiry will stay on your credit report for a complete record of who assessed it. I copied the link to the article that they posted! https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/multiple-inquiries-when-shopping-for-an-car-loan/

It says they "may request permission". Did they ask? Why did he not know about it?

I provided my social. Im no expert, but that part is probably for checks and balances. Permission however was not requested to run a credit bureau report.

Are you saying that it is a requirement for regulatory purposes on your part?

Seems nefarious to me why any dealer would need to pull my full report after i supplied a preapproval letter for a rate that has already been said, cannot be beaten.

I'll second that on the risk for chargebacks - when selling a significant discount there just isn't room for a "game of probability" on certain parts of the process. Chargebacks come in months later and that customer is not going to pony up for a bill on a missed loyalty rebate validation, incomplete affiliate paperwork, error on sold order protection, etc etc.

I have my In-Transit Title right now. They sent it to me in the mail after they received funding from my lender. I have yet to go to my DMV to register it. Theoretically, I could sell it right now.

I assure you that this is a process that we have to complete for everyone who purchases a vehicle with us.

Your social was not run to check rates.

Running your social security number is a process all dealerships follow and this is all in part of The Patriot Act. (OFAC)

When must OFAC be checked?

Transactions such as funds transfers, letters of credit, and noncustomer transactions should be checked against OFAC lists prior to being executed.

We are sorry for any confusion you may have about this.

All I have to say is I watch my credit closely and I have purchased many vehicles in my day. Nearly all of them financed. And, I ONLY have ever had a hard pull from ones I have allowed to check current bank rates for financing purposes.

This is true, a hard pull is not a requirement for a OFAC check nor is a SSN and consent legally MUST be given for ANY dealership to run a hard credit check.

Zach, can you please educate us. What does a hard credit pull have to do with checking buyers against OFAC’s List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN List)? I have checked people against SDNs before, and a credit check was never required. That was a long time ago and it wasn't for purchasing an automobile, so your requirements could be completely different. What is the requirement for auto dealerships?

FWIW these all sound like mistakes your dealership should be eating if you fuck up.

I've dealt with Eric. IMO he's a total asshole and the one reason I won't do business with Granger again... but this member's drama over some minor inconveniences in their policies seems uncalled for. As for the most recent conversation, credit pulls are pretty common when buying a vehicle, and multiple pulls are consolidated into one hard penalty against your credit. I've had plenty of hard pulls doing business with cash, and it hasn't affected my score one bit (which is presently 831).
