1st Oil Change

Newbie questions- what size socket to remove the oil plug, and do you use a torque wrench to put it back on?

Also- how many turns to put the oil filter back on?

Also also- how much oil did you use?

Actually depends on when your 392 was made. Aluminum pan or steel? I know the aluminum pan drain plug is 13mm. And it holds 6+qts with a regular oil change. I think the steel one holds more. But check your manual for how much, understand the number they give is total capacity and you will be a little less because you won’t get every drop out when you drain…

since the 899 and 339 are interchangeable filters…. They use the same 15/93 wrench(y)
NOPE! The 899 is much bigger. If you are using a cap type oil filter tool that has a specific size and flutes number, the two filters will absolutely not use the same wrench.

For anyone else looking at this thread, I did a quick Google search and 76mm/14 flute cap wrench should be the right size for the factory filter MO-339.
Wait, you guys have oil filter wrenches? I thought the standard SOP for removing stuck oil filters was to drive a flat head through it... :ROFLMAO:

Oh man, why would I even need to buy a filter wrench just to get rid of the old smaller filter? Thumbs up to the flat head idea(y)

The gasket of the 339 is slightly smaller than the gasket on the 899. Anyone else notice that?

The difference is slight enough that I didn't notice it. 899 works fine.

I did take mine in for an oil change today (free Jeep Wave) and they filled it right up to max on dipstick. No leaks. They used the 339 filter. I changed the oil myself at 1500 or so miles just to fresh oil in it after initial break in. I used the 899. They did not comment on filter I had used.

Are the 041 SRT filters easier to get these days? I put an order of 15 in with a company a few months ago and I’ve been notified they’ve been shipped just now.

They’ve been on backorder for a while.

Well I have a pack of 15 and would sell some for $18 shipped if anybody needs one.

Mine are on the way as well. Ordered months ago. Got 3 coming. Gonna cut one open. I'm betting they are not going to be as nice as the Wix 57899XP but will see

K@N fixed me up nicely with their K@N HP 2010 recommended filter for a 6.2 Jeep TrackHawk, crosses over to the Mopar 041 SRT filter.. K@N HP 1017 replacement filter for a 392..
AmsOil offers a 0w-40 Signature oil
Same filter I ran on my GC SRT.
have you signed up to be an Amsoil vendor? It’s worth it.

You can sign up as a Preferred Customer getting a nice discount along with free shipping on orders over $100.
the signature 0w-40 runs about $12.50 a quart.
I held my vendor status with them for a long time but eventually stopped.
