Is the 392 overpriced?

The 392 Wrangler isn't overpriced because people are paying anywhere from $80k to $130K for them willingly. And with a 392 Wrangler you get what's arguably a collectible vehicle that looks really cool and will hold it's value if you treat it like a mall crawler and don't abuse the crap out of it. If you're watching your pennies, and want an off-roader that you can beat on, save your money and buy a lower end Jeep. If money is no object and you want a 392 you can beat on and take off road, by all means get the 392 Wrangler.

Price is all about the value a person places in the item and is/always will be subjective. Now here's one to tickle the thoughts and arguments to begin - I actually say that the price of gas is cheap and a relative bargain even at current prices. This is said because everyone out there gripes and complains about $5/gallon while happily dropping $1.50 to $2 for a pint of bottled water at that same gas station (that would be $12-$16 per gallon people pay for something you can open a tap and get for mere pennies)!! Consider the amount of infrastructure and work that goes into getting that 1 gallon of gas to the customer and I think $5 is excellent. at $100/barrel of oil on the market and average net 19 gallons of gasoline per barrel......really not much margin there - consider it had to be drilled, transported, refined, transported again and so on.......add on the taxes heaped on that gallon to get the final price......Truly Gasoline is Cheaper than water!!

While selecting options for my 392 order, I saw an Instagram add for a Durango. For sheets and giggles I went over to the web site and configured a pretty much fully loaded Durango SRT 392. Total price? $78,965. Check out the options:
  • Base: $68,960
  • Destroyer Gray Clear-Coat Exterior Paint: $395
  • 19 Harman Kardon® Amped Speakers with Subwoofer: $1,085
  • Power Sunroof: $1,295
  • Technology Group: $2,395
  • Premium Interior Group: $2,495
  • Trailer-Tow Group IV: $1,195
  • Destination charge: $1,595
  • Total: $79,415
For that money, you also get a few extras that are not available on the Jeep - Carbon fiber interior accents, leather dashboard, suede headliner, etc.

In contrast, my future Jeep is as follows:
  • Base: $81,985
  • Sting-Gray Clear Coat: $395
  • Dual Top Group: $1,350
  • Integrated Off-Road Camera: $695
  • Trailer Tow Package: $350
  • Destination charge: $1,595
  • Total: $86,370
If I were to get the XR package and the One-touch power top, I'd be out of $92K+ MSRP

There are many similarities - both the Dodge and the Jeep have the same engine. In-car technology is mostly the same (navi, ACC, advanced audio, etc). Jeep has dual tops - Dodge has a sunroof, both have the towing package, etc. I get that Jeep has locking diffs and can _actually_ go off-road, while Durango is _capable_ of going off-road somewhat, but on the other hand Durango has a much nicer interior, is much more comfortable, has a bigger fuel tank, better highway gas mileage, etc.

My question is - how does Jeep justify a whopping ~$6K premium over a similarly optioned Durango?
This question is 100% subjective. You might as well add the Hellcat, TRX, Raptor, Cummins or Duramax 3/4 tons, Camaro ZL1, Mustang GT350 and Corvette to the mix. They can all be had in the neighborhood of the same price and all are completely different vehicles. The price of one has literally nothing to do with the price of another. I guess you could argue the comparitive value of the Mustang, Camaro, and Challengers, or the truks, but really, there is so much "personal preference" involved here that your question cannot be answered.

But - if it could be answered, the answer would be "NO." The Rubicon 392 is not currently overpriced because they are selling every single one they can build and people in some areas are still paying a premium to get one today (rather than wait 6 months). Someone mentioned that the Jeep will be collectible... Perhaps, but today there is not one other vehicle on the planet that compares to what it is and does (Including the Bronco Raptor) in stock form.

Plus, in case you haven't noticed, Jeep Wranglers hold their value like almost no other moden vehicle (aside from some very exclusive exotics, etc.). Case in point, I sold my 2020 Rubicon 3.6/6-speed for $52,500 in June of 2022... which is exactly what I paid for it in April of 2021. I drove it 15K miles or so in the interim. Insanity, but it helped me to fund my 392 purchase, so it was a win-win for me and the buyer (who flew in and drove 14 hours home to get the Jeep).

I paid $6k for a rifle and another $4k on optics. The ammo is pushing $5/rd.
Worth it? Absolutely.
A fair price? To me yes. But all my friends into guns as much as I am, still think I’m crazy for spending that on a gun.

Yup. It's all relative! Similarly, I have some guitars that are worth more than some of the cars I've owned. I actually sold a car once to buy a guitar. The friend who bought my car thought I was nuts (but was happy to take the 70 Sedan Deville off of my hands for a fair price). :)

I'm a keyboard player who sold my first synthesizer for 10x more than I paid for it new. Hey, want to start a band? We could call it `The 392's''. 🎹🎸

Love it!

I just ordered my 23' Rubicon 392 XR last week. What are people realistically seeing for delivery time frames? I was told 8-12 weeks, but I didn't feel confident that was the truth. Curious as to what you all are hearing/seeing?

9 weeks for mine
Others have waited 6 months+

Said Barking Iron…
I call it my “CNN” photo.
You know, regardless of the crime, CNN is putting this shot of me on TV. 🤣

Nothing finer than the thump of a .50, watching the vapor trail course toward the target through a Leopold Mark 5.

Wednesday will mark the 6 month point from the order date for mine. I doubt they will even START building 23s in 8-12 weeks.

Oh... and 6 months and it's been sitting in "Scheduled" status since June 17th, so...

Has to be a 50 BMG, I don't think 338 Lapua is that much. 6.5 Creedmoor is as far as I have gotten.

.50 BMG
However, the .338 is more accurate.

Back on 11/1/21 I was told the exact same thing: “8-12 weeks.” I don’t know if they’ve picked up the pace since then, and I certainly saw Jeeps get built for others much faster, but mine took a hair over 26 weeks all in. The exact timing is in another thread. It felt interminable, but now seems a distant memory. I can’t imagine not having it. So worth the wait!

Just curious if it takes longer if you order from one of the discount Jeep dealers? Koons for example? Since they must have hundreds of orders?

I ordered my '22 at end of October and it was delivered end of May.

I'm at 22 weeks since order, It's reportedly built, but been stuck in "I" status ("pending quality inspections") for the last 35 days 😢
