What to pay for in stock 392 XR

I thought I was driving 3 hours for a deal. At the time I ordered two local dealers said they simply could not order one and a third dealer was charging $25K over so I went with one who said they could order for MSRP.

All things considered, MSRP is a fair deal.

UPDATE: Car still has not sold. They just rejected my $2,500 over msrp offer. I'm not moving up from there. We'll see if they come back in a few days again. Seems to be their MO

It’s funny when you see that mentality in action: “I want 100% of nothing instead of settling for 90% of something.”

Tell them to call you when it doesn’t sell…

But at the end of the day, it’s worth to you what you are willing to pay yourself. Given today‘s market and the unicorn-esque status of the XR, you may find yourself willing to pay more (or less) for exactly what you want.

Keep us posted! I’m curious as to whether or not they budge…

You’re the first person I’ve heard of who traded in a gas-free vehicle for a gas guzzler. I love it! Nothing against electric vehicles; however, there is a certain primal sound and feeling you get from a big V8. I took my elderly neighbors for a test drive last night in my 392 -- it was like a scene out of the 1985 movie Cocoon -- they were rejuvenated!View attachment 2162!
Is this silver zynith?

UPDATE: my instant gratification hunt to buy an XR392 without having to order and wait continues! found an in stock Rubicon XR optioned essentially exactly how I would (it has trail rail on it which I don't care about but I'm fine with that too) and have an offer that I believe is accepted at $1,500 over MSRP. They started at 10 over. seem to be more well optioned XRs showing up for sale in showrooms. They got a little squirrelly on our deal after they took a deposit from me so I've got a call at 9:15am tomorrow to hopefully finalize the deal.

Congrats if you're the seller!

WTF were you thinking if you're the buyer?

The price is that high because there were only a handful of 392 built in the Tuscadero color. This is more of a collector's item. It would be interesting to see if it is sold at this price.

How do you get a vehicle insured if you pay more than MSRP? Serious question!

I think for the most part insurance takes replacement cost into consideration as "fair market value." In this market I would assume they would know MSRP is less than that.
Hard to say though ... without a nice down payment you might be paying gap insurance

With some insurers, you can do agreed value, but I've never tried to do it for a new / recent vehicle during a rediculous / hot market. I think in that case, you'd be self-insuring for the overage. If you can afford to go over like that, you can afford to cover any loss. That's definitely a toy for someone, they're not carrying a note on it.

I agree. I would use my $2,500 OVER sticker offer and insurance issues as a deal maker!

July 2021, the dealer in Boulder Colorado had a unit on the showroom floor. They wanted my GC SRT and offered $2k below sticker to try to entice me to buy the JL 392. I have a deposit on the Cybertruck, thinking it would arrive by the end of 2021. With this, I passed on the deal. 2 months later, Tesla announces another year, and another for my spot in line. I went back Labor Day weekend and paid sticker. From order date to delivery date, the sticker went up $1k. Presented my original paperwork and they honored the original price. They had too. It was in a written agreement.

UPDATE: Done Deal... new toy on its way to Los Angeles now for delivery tonight. There was some "miscommunication" between my sales guy and the GM. I'll just assume it was innocent to give them the benefit of the doubt but they sent me paperwork that didn't reflect the deal we had discussed (obviously in their favor). Talked to the GM early this morning and to his credit he gave me 100% of the deal that I had negotiated for and had the car headed my way 25 minutes later. I was convinced it was going to be a "lets split the difference" convo but he was straight with me and took a $1,500 hit to make me happy. I'll post up some pics when it gets here. I'm proud to be rewarding Jeep for making a vehicle that is completely illogical, probably unsafe, louder than it should be, thirstier than about anything on the road today and faster than it should be. The days of vehicles like this are likely limited. Had to enjoy it while I can. God bless America :)

Enjoy! Youre gonna love it!!
What color and what options did you go with?

I'd happily drive 3-6 hours for a deal. Problem is I live in Los Angeles and dealers out west don't seem to be dealing the same as east/mid-west dealer.
I’ve literally driven a car home for 2,000 miles for the right find/deal.
but I travel regularly. My perspective is not of the norm…

White XR. If I ordered and waited I probably would have done the black grill and not the trail rail but otherwise this is the exact way I would have ordered it and I didn't have to wait. I was iffy on the black grill and now if I decide I want it its easy to wrap. Wouldn't have specced trail rail but now that I'm getting it I think it'll be kinda cool to add some bits.

Very nice spec.
Btw... the satin black grill is easily added and cheaper to buy after the fact (and have both)
They're $300 on ebay brand new. (vs a $395 option)

Part# 82216097 ... says its for a Gladiator but was told several times this is the one you need. I will confirm this in a few days when I install it. Center honeycomb section is replaceable for the trail cam as well.
