As of right now my plan is to tap into the CLA behind the panel using a quadratec OEM plug/loom. I havent yet pulled the panel so I havent confirmed if it’ll work. I hate using vampire style wire taps and I certainly dont want to cut any OEM wiring. Im also hoping to replace the CLA with a more useful outlet (multi-port usb) and then move the CLA to a better more protected location like at the base of the roll bar but facing forward. This may allow me to use the quadratec plug in a modified fashion if plan A isnt possible. Ill post pics of whatever I come/end up with.

That rear 12 volt outlet is in such a terrible place. I have been trying to find a decent, simple 90 degree cigarette lighter adapter but no luck.

Thanks flynbvr! I really like the way you ran the wire for the liftgate light and would like to know more about your plans to complete the hardwiring. I have the same light and am pondering how to hardwire it neatly and have several ideas none of which include the 12 volt outlet. 1. Wire to the dome lights; 2. Run dedicated large gauge wiring from the battery and install a multi junction connection box of some sort in the rear of the Jeep to also accomdate additional accessories; 3. Other ideas as they occur.

I completed the hardwiring by customizing a quadratec lighter harness and swapping out the CLA for a volt meter / USB outlet.

I started by opening the hole in the panel ever so slightly so there was a snug fit for the new outlet. I then crated a custom spacer so the outlet mounting nut would lay flat by cutting in half a cap from an auto zone brake clean can and clearancing the inside of the cap for another snug fit around the back of the outlet

I then removed the small grey plug end from the new wire harness and replaced the connectors with female blades for the new outlet (i think this piece of wiring came with the light). I cut the hardwire harness for the light in 1/3, soldered the ends and screwed them into the wire harness tap block.

Plugged it all in, ran the wiring in a safe path and put the panel back on. Now I can check my rigs battery status from the rear and I have a couple USB ports for various things.

Im very pleased with the outcome and now I plan to put in a Dometic 2 port CLA receptacle in front of the roll bar base. Theres ton of space behind the panel to accommodate them and it'll put the CLA plugs in a safer place than sticking straight out to the side.

Very Nice! I obrtained a recepticle wiring harness splitter like the one pictured in your sequences from Quadratec over a year ago that I still have. I was looking for a suitable way to mount the Mopar trailer brake controller and simultainiously relocate the recepitcle elswhere in the dash area but was not successful, not enough room for another recpticle. So I will put it to use in the rear of the Jeep. Can you tell me what gauge the original factory wiring is to the factory recepticle?

Installed seat jackers by desert does it

It lifts up the front of your seat a little so gives your legs more support. Good for tall guys. I’m 6’2 and the support is great so far.

I'll admit it was a little silly to buy a skid plate to cover up the muffler but I like the look much better. I have a 2006 LJR that is my off-road machine for now. It was easy to install.

Nah not silly. That’s exactly the reason I’m considering purchasing one. That muffler sticks out like a sore thumb. It gives it a more clean appearance I think.

I recently bought the RH 392 muffler skid plate and had it, as well as the exhaust tips re-powder coated in the same textured black as the 392 bumpers and really am in love with the result. It really cleans up an otherwise rather ugly rear underside making it almost 'invisible". I was able to install it rather easily by myself with the help of a small floor jack with a "crossbeam adapter" to do the heavy lifting. RockHard has a video on It's site that shows how to install the non-392 skidplate but the process is exactly the same. The rear tabs that mount to the frame are a very precise and tight fit requiring some patience and finess to get them to line up to the inside surfaces of the frame, the bolt and nut tabs are a little awkward to install also but quite doable. I will provide photos when I get the Jeep back from the shop. It is having the entire oil filter, cooler take-off/adapter unit (Pictured as #1) replaced because of a leak that is not at the filter itself but that's a story for another thread/post..

My gold was flaking as well. Interested to see if it was a crappy coating process with the gold, too much heat for the coating in the Jeep engine bay, or maybe a combo. Will follow up if the silver starts flaking.
