🛠️ What did you do to your Jeep 392 today?

Time for some Fall maintenance; treated the undercarriage with Surface Shield. Switched from Woolwax based on positive reviews, but I couldn't tell any difference between the two.

I've had enough cars "rust out" here in the midwest. So, when I bought my 392 I made myself a little test rig to see which products including Surface Shield, Woolwax, and Fluid Film, might actually keep my Jeep "rust free". I found that while they all look about the same when first applied, Surface Shield is much more resistant over time. After a full winter of driving all the other products eventually thinned out and washed off rendering them ineffective. Surface Shield got dirty, but it maintained a "wet" layer all winter long, and when you wiped it off the metal underneath was completely rust free. So that's what I use, here are some pics I took along the way to monitor the process over time. (BTW I really like that CJ/TJ retro stipe on your white Jeep!)

Added a few odds and ends last week:

- Warn VR Evo 12s
- Factor 55 Ultrahook
- Bull bar (had to take out my ARB Intensity Solis lights to make it fit)
- Swapped the POS OEM plastic bumper with an OE style steel one
- Tom Woods 1350 front drive shaft
- PSC steering gear box
- American Offroad dead pedal

To come in the next week or so:
- either the mpower stealth light bar or a custom light bar (similar to the KC gravity one but with Rigid lights - so hopefully about half the price )
- bulletpoint phone mount
- custom made drawer system in the boot
- liking the look of the 2024 grille so might pull the trigger on that
- looking into swapping my 3.5" metal cloak springs to 2.5" rock krawlers

Down the line:
-Atlas TC once factory one dies again (had one replaced under warranty and I don't think they'll replace a second because of my after-market mods)
- maybe 37s to replace my current 35s when they wear out (depends on the clearance available after dropping to 2.5" springs if I go down that route)
- gear ratio change and heavy duty tire carrier to go with the 37s

Yo got to ditch the factory bird cage skid and put some protection around that exhaust. It’s so vulnerable. Just saying

Luckily all my wheeling is in the sand and there is almost no way to damage the exhaust. If it does somehow get damaged I'll have an excuse to get that Magnaflow exhaust I want but can't justify getting now

FWIW, I never could get any takers until I gave one set away and trashed the other set. Just wasn't a market when I tried to unload mine.

I was lucky to get them at $275!

Put in the Gama Adventure bags. Love these for utilizing that dead space back there.

Then finally got to cutting those cans down to put smaller cones on. Oscillating tool worked great. Dremel for sanding down the rough edges then regular auto paint to prevent rust.

Sanded down and painted

Both sides done and also replaced the plastic fairlead cover with another stock one. The dealer drilled holes in the other for the stock license plate block. I'm option instead for a quick release plate system I just bought for when I need to run a plate. Haven't put that on yet.

I couldn't take all of the power cords so I installed dash power. Tapped into the cigarette lighter power.

I tried to run some cords up there ,but did not find a decent route... did you just drill a hole through the bottom of the recess?

Yes. It's easiest if you take off some of the dash parts to lean out the radio. I wanted to do this so that I could be sure the new power outlet would fit behind the radio. They come in different sizes depending on how many ports there are. The outlet I purchased came with enough wire to reach the cigarette outlet. I wanted to use that so that my electronics don't drain the battery when my Jeep is turned off.

I just eyeballed it and it went well (Murphy was smiling on me today). I marked my center spot and then used a conical bit to widen the hole until the outlet fit.

I'm always a little nervous about pulling panels off inside but it really wasn't that difficult and everything went back okay. As a bonus, I was able to retrieve a part I dropped in from above when I installed my Vector E-dock

For anyone looking to install a dead pedal, the DV8 version is a good choice. It's so overbuilt it's ridiculous. When I saw the shipping weight I thought surely that's a mistake. Well, it wasn't given it's built using 1/4" steel plate. Install was super easy other than the tight space. I purchased it with a Labor Day 15% discount and they offer free shipping.

What are the part numbers for the Mopar Grab handles. I continue to look but the ones I have found say up to 2023 and not 2024, which is what I need.
