Transfer Case Failure

Man, I feel for everyone here. Being out of your ride and into a "normal" car sucks even for a day, let alone weeks. It's a first-world gripe but perspective doesn't care, it sucks regardless. It's easy for me sitting here with a healthy truck to say "Ah fuck mate, it's an opportunity for an Atlas upgrade!" but when push comes to shove I'd be interested to see how I actually respond.

After owning multiple flat-6 Porsches I've come to learn that if I want 'peak performance' vehicles, I must willingly accept that they will break, they cost a lot, and I will at some point be without them for short stints of time. In my heart, every cold start, rip through the canyons, or memory made from off-roading/adventuring is worth whatever the cost may be.

To anyone suffering from missing your rig syndrome, I hope the sentiment helps.

Well, I've joined the club. 2023 392XR with 7,100 miles.

Pulled in to gas up to drive the last 150 miles home (already ran 600 highway miles today). Smelt burning scent. Lots of other vehicles around so I didn't think it was mine. Pulled up to the store and saw Service 4wd light and noticed it felt like locker was on or something. Looked underneath and everything behind the Tcase is covered in atf+4. Pulled over to O'Reilly auto parts and heard, and felt, grinding gears as the jeep struggled to pull into a parking space.

Tow truck is scheduled..

Update on mine - dealer had it diagnosed and replaced within a week. Said the transfer case was full of metal and fluid was brown/black. Oddly enough I think the Jeep is driving better than it ever has and I’ve owned it since new. Who knows how long something was wrong with it before it decided to grenade itself. 🤷‍♂️

I've been running mine exclusively in 2wd unless in rain or light snow. Anything else gets 4Hi or low. So far so good. If it fails, Atlas!

Sorry for the others that have had issues, it blows!

This won't make you feel warm and fuzzy. I just had T Case #2 replaced. November for #1. Fluid also full of metal. My JK is throwing codes now too. Codes for stuff that is a known JK problem just like the Tcase on a 392. (I had the left-head issue on my 2012 also.)
Jeep is making it really hard for me to be a happy Jeep girl right now...Gonna change my forum name form Jeepherz to Jeephurtz.

Yeah that’s rough. Not sure I’ll be as forgiving with the Jeep if it happens again LOL.
