Transfer Case Failure

Well, it took 2 month but the service 4wd light came back on today. I haven’t been able to replicate it, but I’m guessing I’m going to drop it off at the dealer again tomorrow. I’ve noticed a very pronounced click when I first start it up and put it in reverse. It only happens when it’s sat for a while. Also noticed a weird click that sounds like it’s coming from the front passenger tire area. I haven’t tied that noise to anything like turning the wheel, etc yet but I’m wondering if it’s all related.
Did you ever get the details of the assignable cause from the dealer?

I had clicking coming from the front driver tire area on my previous JLU which also had the same Selec Trac system as our 392s. Ended up being a bad CV on the front driver axle. I didn’t get any SERV 4WD lights though.

When my TC failure occured, it was preceded shifting i to reverse. Felt liked it slipped into 4 wheel part time. Then would go away for a short period and then repeat. Good luck with the diagnosis - hope u u get it fixed, as mine has been fine since the repair.

I have driven it for about 40 miles since the light came on and can’t replicate it. I’ll probably just keep driving it in hopes it was either a fluke or gives me at least an intermittent light. At this point, it was one time and poof gone.

Just had the dreaded service four wheel drive warning.. Pulled over, serious grinding noise, doesn't want to move really well. So shut it down, called jeep wave... Tow to dealer.. Initial indication is transfer case shot....

2235 miles on the clock... Can't wait to see what the wait for parts will be.... uuuugh

I had my transfer case replaced after the dreaded light came on twice. I could feel tension when the wheels were turned and then the light would come on. The dealer had it for a month.

Then, I picked it up, drove it under 500 miles when I heard a rotational snap in the under carriage with a full loss of power. I pulled over and the Jeep was to never start again. That was 20 days ago and the dealer still hasn't reached out to me with a diagnosis...

I've never experienced a manufacturer that doesn't pay for rentals direct when a vehicle is in under warranty. So, FCA approved my rental at $75 per day, but the reimbursement has yet to be seen. I'm out of pocket $3600 on a rental at this point which just seems wrong to me.

To say the least, my experience with Jeep/FCA has not been fun thus far.
I’d reach out to Jeep corporate or check with your state 🍋 law. I’d walk away from that if you can. Zero communication and $3600 out of pocket is beyond ridiculous. I’ll send you a DM.

I stopped by the dealer today to see what the code was that mine threw a week or so ago. It was c140e “transfer case blocked”. Hasn’t happened since so I’m not sure what to think about it. I know I saw a 2022 in high velocity yellow today that was pretty bad ass.

That was the code that preceded my transfer case failure

The dealer called and said that it is the transfer Case Motor, supposed to be replace in the AM....
NO loaners, NO help from the local dealer... This is my wife daily ride. She is a MD and has to be in and out of the hospital no matter weather or time of night... I think I may transition to the 392. She has had BMW or Benz the past 20 yeaRS, they pick her ride up at the office, service and drop it back off... So the offerings from this local dealer is most likely not going to work for her,,lol

Will keep the post up dated on what the fix is...

This really surprises me. When I had mine swapped the dealer told me that because they had to keep it due to potential catastrophic failure and the safety issue of that, they were required to give me a loaner for free.

Curious if the transfer fluid was full on delivery. Some owners have noticed the transfer case is low on fluid from the factory.

I think it is maybe just our local dealer... Less than impressive I will say...lol

I did not check it once delivered. I did however ask them to double check this during the PDI. I was at the dealer when the unit arrived by truck and was unloaded. That was on a Friday, the salesman asked if we wanted to pick up the next day, I told him Wednesday. That way they could check transfer case and fuse block for loose fuses.... Guessing was done..

Stealer just called. Guess they followed the code trail. Replace the motor, but now say actuator failure, and transfer case has to be replaced. Ordered it today, hope by end of month... NOT a great way to start off..... Now we wait....

Is the transfer case on the 392 Rubi unique to this vehicle?
I am sure that there is someone with more first hand knowledge than me.... BUT as I understand it is the same unit that is used in the jeep liberty... Seems odd and somewhat underwhelming to me....

It’s the same T-Case that they use on all of the Selec-Trac wranglers, which has been a factory option for them all (I had it on my previous JLU which was a sport). The only difference in the 392 is they electronically disable 2HI which is re-enabled with the Tazer. The real difference is lack of a FAD so even when you Tazer to 2HI it’s not really 2HI as the front drive shaft is spinning as long as the front wheels are spinning.

Did they not offer you a loaner vehicle?
