PSA CHECK YOUR TRANSFER CASE

Do yourself a favor and check the level of fluid in your transfer case. I was poking around under the 392 today and decided to pull the fill plug on the transfer case…. Lo and behold the case was 1/2 quart low. I had the same issue with my TRX and if you pay attention on the TRX forum it’s a known issue. 392 takes Mopar ATF 4 which you can grab at your dealer or on Amazon. I’ll probably be checking the level on my diffs next weekend. Those were also low on my TRX.

Checked the transfer case about 8 oz low. Both diffs were low as well. Thank you for the PSA it was helpful. The 392 has about 1000 miles on her.

Finally checked mine today while I had it on the lift and like many others, it was a half quart low. 7,000 miles.

Finally checked em both today while doing my 500 mile oil change. To my pleasant surprise they both were only a tick low. Touched oil with my finger in both. Topped em off and feeling better about it.

I pulled the fill plug and nothing dribbled out. I used a hand transfer pump and pumped 1/2 quart of Mopar ATF 4 into it until it dribbled out of the fill plug. Same thing with the TRX. Like I said before it’s a known issue on the TRX. Looks like it might be on the 392 as well.

I'm gonna check this right on the dealer lot when I pick mine up next week LOL cause its about 750 miles home. At least it will be broken in when I get to pick my youngest up from school in it.... LOL

Ok question. Just completed a 1600 mile trip to the CO mountains and back. Ready for a 2500 mile oil change and thinking about changing the T-case as well. I know it's not reccomended normally until around the 30k mark, but with a lot of people commenting of failures. low levels from the factory (mine was about 9-10oz low), and even some comments about maybe more frrequent changes to prevent failure is wise, or overkill? With the dealer parts delays even more so post strike than pre strike, I'm just soliciting opionions and experience of frequency of T-case fluid change to avoid delays of continiual daily driving fun!

I wouldn’t swap fluid since it sounds like you topped off your TC pretty early?

Well that is kind of my question….. IS there a risk ? It’s not hard to do while I’m already under there doin the oil change.

I dont think so at all. Planning to do mine soon under 10k miles.

Easy to change and causes no ill effects. My approach is I pull the fill plug and check the fluid to determine if a change is required.

I do not believe changing the fluid in the t-case will decrease the failure rate. Most failures are the actuator motor…. Longer term failures of clutches are occurring at a much smaller rate. Clutch wear should show in the fluid. I plan on checking my fluid every oil change. Which for me is about every 1500 miles, because of the 6 month interval warranty requirement.

I sure appreciate this thread! I pulled the plug on my transfer case this morning and couldn’t reach any fluid with my finger. Off to go get some ATF+4.

No, nothing at all. Turns out that I was 1/2 quart low. Ridiculous!
