PPE Aluminum transmission pan

They seal the lines inside of the bypass. If they get damaged it’ll leak
Bear with me as I'm not familiar with this set up. Does that bypass have to be replaced when you upgrade the pan, or is that an additional upgrade?

It’s independent of the pan. The factory one is thermostatically controlled.

Yes, I have it installed

Unless they have changed something, you must use the gasket that comes with their pan as the factory gasket won’t work. The shape of one of the corners is different on the OEM Jeep gasket that has the metal backing. It’s been a while since I did it so some of the details are fuzzy.

The worst part is the refill procedure on ZF transmissions. Ass end has to be jacked up and the fluid has to be at operating temp to ensure properly filled.

For our Jeeps, you have to disconnect front driveshaft or use Tazer to force 2WD.
You got me thinking, so I checked the gasket I got from the dealer. Looks like it lines up with the holes and gasket pins. What am I missing?

Let me know what you see when you get the factory pan off.

The gasket on my 21 was metal reinforced and did not line up with the mating surface on the PPE. May have been an update at some point. The part number has been updated 3 times so likely.

You should be good to go if the one they provided lines up with the PPE.

The factory gasket definitely has an inner metal reinforcement piece. You can feel the stiffness from the insert.

Was it a PITA to move the exhaust out of the way?

Did you install the pan? Do you notice any temperature difference?
Haven’t installed the pan yet, was gonna do it after 10,000 miles. My temps aren’t that high. But I wanted the convenience of draining the fluid at shorter intervals.

I am about one thousand miles away from the 30 thousand and I want to make sure to get it done at every 30 thousand miles.

Would you mind sharing which part number you ordered?

I called PPE and they told me I was the first to ask about a pan for the Wrangler 392 (this thread suggests otherwise 😁).

They said the pan I should go with is this one:

It's a different part number than the raw aluminum variant for the one listed earlier in this thread.

228053400 vs. 228053000

Thanks!

Well that's interesting, I had a long conversation with the guys at PPE and sent them pics of my OEM pan and below is what they recommended. It appears to have the same form factor as the one you show, love to hear what they say.

Dang, that just adds to the confusion.

I believe that's a 3rd different pan & part number in this thread.

Well I haven't installed mine as yet. I'd sure hate to disassemble everything and find it doesn't fit. I'll probably be looking to install in the next few months. I'm sure gonna get on the phone with them and double check before I start unboltin' stuff. Wish I could tell you it's already done and fits, but not yet.

That seems like a PIA.

So far, the only differences I see between these two are the additional fluid capacity amounts.

228053400 = Plus 1QT Additional over OEM

228053000 = Plus 2QT Additional over OEM.

That is going to be the wrong pan and maybe even the pan filter too unfortunately. The 850RE is the transmission for the 3.6L V6, not the 392. We have the 8HP75 transmission.
