Oil Change - What Oil and Filter are you using?

I find it interesting that the 2025 owner handbook I got shows the oil specification for the 2.0 and 3.6, but not the 6.4. It shows the capacity, but not the spec.
I downloaded the full owners manual, and it is listed in there.

That’s the owner’s manual. I was referring to the owner’s handbook that comes in printed form with the Jeep. The printed owner’s manual doesn’t come with the Jeep anymore. But it can be downloaded.

Ahh sorry, misunderstood. Yeah, it's a shame owner's manual are so expensive to print nowadays...:poop:

And this is why I never used the three free oil changes from the dealer 🤣👍🏼
I got the stuff to do my own oil changes from here forward. I just hate dealing with the used motor oil. It’s such a pain. I love working on my jeep but hate changing the oil for that reason

I bought a 5 gallon container and just dump the used oil in that. Every 3 or 4 changes I make a trip to the auto parts store for the dump. Really not too bad……

These are exactly what I use. Be sure to get two cases of the oil tho because you need 7.5 QTs and that case only comes with 6
You don't have any issues with that oil filter, with it being bigger? I just received mine and didn't know it was bigger than the factory one. Gotta do my oil change pretty soon, and wanted to make sure there was no issues. Thanks!

No problems at all, the larger oil filter is actually more appropriate for the 392 engine. I’m gonna be doing another oil change this weekend which will be the 6th larger SRT filter I’ve used with no problems whatsoever.

Thank you! Just wanted to be sure before I get to work on it.

Does the larger filter touch the adjacent coolant hose on your Jeep? I was planning to start using the larger filter on my first oil change but it appeared that the coolant hose would rub on the filter, so I opted for a small filter this time.

Nope, no contact with anything at all. It’s close to the hose but not in contact with.

Some say that because it's so close to the crossbar it may hit it. I've been using the larger filter for 3 oil changes and have seen no hitting or interference issues. I don't go crazy rock crawling that could possibly twist the frame though. Just simple light off rad use.

Yes, even the 392 expert on Facebook says the larger filter may hit the track bar as the engine twists under hard acceleration. I have use the large ones with no issues but because I always hit 6 months before 5k miles I just use the factory part.

Always a good idea!
Well, got the oil change done a couple weeks ago with the bigger SRT oil filter. Did have to move the coolant hose to get it on, which was nothing major, and so far so good. Will keep using the SRT filter in the future.

I opted for the 339 due to clearance but will likely change to the 889 next change for better Filtering of the oil? Mine never makes the mileage mark in six months, so I don’t think it matters as much as the time between changes. Not much clearance with a bigger filter.

I have the full size SRT filter in my 2024. I didn’t need to do anything to install it. I can’t use the fancy oil filter wrench I bought for the purpose of installing it, because it is too thick. So I just have to use a rubber glove and my hand to tighten it.

The TRX forum has a great thread from a very knowledgeable member on oil filter options. Based on his work, I am switching from the 041 filter on TRX/392 to the Fram XG2.

The SRT filter is a beast. Fram filters were crap inside and the same as some really cheap filters.
