Good afternoon. Simple and straight to the point.
I am coming up on my first oil change on my 2023 Wrangler 392.
I am curious as to what oil and filter are you using.

Autozone, and just about everywhere else local does not seem to have many options for 0w40 or filters.
They seem to want to sell you what they have which doesn't work for me.

Thank you in advance.

Lol, an oil thread. There are 3 mopar oil filter choices. 339, 899 and 041. Use whatever you can get, spoiler alert, the 041 is the best if you want that.

There is only 1 oil certified for a MS-12633 Jeep 392. PUP SRT 0W40. Everything else doesn’t, but that is up to you.

I think he meant Pennzoil.

I think he meant PUP. Penzoil Ultra Platinum. We should definitely have a search feature that allows searching for questions that have been addressed a million times.

What do you think about the OEM filter and oil from the dealership?

Schaeffer meets requirements; I'm running this in my TRX and possibly switching the 392 over depending on the results from my next TRX oil analysis:

Good results purchasing here:

The TRX forum has a great thread from a very knowledgeable member on oil filter options. Based on his work, I am switching from the 041 filter on TRX/392 to the Fram XG2.

Worth the watch...I'm gonna put my money on the SRT at excelling at this test...the ADV got displaced on the Fram, not good for start ups...

Thats a great write up! I am curious why the Napa Goldline filters were not included, I have been running those since 1980 in all my rigs. OnTheReel responded quickly and said the Napa Goldline were repackaged WIX filters so not going with them anymore. I ordered one of the stock Mopar filters and a Royal Purple 10-48 to check them out. My 392 only has 3000 miles but Im going to change all the fluids so I know whats in there.

I have nothing to do with Amsoil but I do see it is certified for the 392 spec:
0W-40 (AZF): API SP, SN PLUS, SN...; Chrysler MS-A0921, MS-12633, MS-10725, MS-10850; Nissan GT-R; GM dexos R

Wording from Amsoil is a bit different:

" Use AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil in applications that require any of the following specifications"

If interested, this has been a topic of discussion on other forums. Summary: good oil, just haven't spent the time and money to be certified to MS-12633.

Shell Oil Company (owner of Pennzoil) paid a lot of money to become the exclusive provider to Stellantis (also a Dutch holding company....even though Shell is not anymore they went to the UK). ExxonMobil (owner of Mobil 1 the previous supplier) was not going to get into a bidding war for a very low-margin business (lubricants)...in the end, it was a business decision. If you look at the 3-year history of how the companies are doing. ExxonMobil seems to have made the right choice in betting on E&P and Shale. vs "being the exclusive oil for "Stellantis"... regardless of all the testing...Pennzoil is overhyped, but they had to come up with a way to charge consumers to get this "exclusive" certification.

Full disclosure I do not work for either of these companies. but I do work in the Oil and Gas industry.

I just turned 3000 miles and bought two cases of Penzoil, I ordered three different filters based on some info here and on the TRX site where a pretty extensive review was done cutting filter apart and comparing the medium. I ordered 3 filters, but if you go to Amsoil or Royal Purple's site the recommended filters for our 392's are different than on the TRX forum. When I reached out to the OP he said their sites are all screwed up and now that I have the Royal Purple it appears he was right. I ordered what they recommend instead of what he had listed and its significantly smaller than the factory Mopar so its going back. Anyone have some feedback on this?

The Royal purple filter looks to be same size as what's installed at the Mopar factory. Mopar 339 I believe it is.

You looking for feedback on the royal purple filter? Don’t have any. The other filter is the SRT filter, that is not stock on a 392. The Mopar 339 is stock and that RP looks similar in size. The 392 has a smaller filter for clearance. You can contact the SRT filter off road. Doesn’t happen to too many people but it can happen.

the smaller Mopar filter fits good on our 392 Jeep. I looked at the much larger SRT filter and it is way to close to the frame piece that has the bend in it for clearance. I'd rather use the SRT filter but there could be issues with breaking the filter off I could see.

Search is useful but not so much for 3 letter words. Oil and aev are too short so have to get creative with search terms.

Is there a good alternative to the 0W40 oil. Especially in extremely hot climate. Like 5W40?
