Occasional smoke, new 2024.

Unreal. We get this bad ass Jeep and put another 25 k or more for some and the bottom falls out. Not cool ! We have 4 392’s in our Jeep club, total of 63 jeeps. One battery issue my axel seal and that’s all so far can’t complain. But you didn’t hear much of anything about 04,05 And 06 rubicon L j except that everybody wanted one. But I do like my 392 much better 😏
The struggle is real. Money can buy happiness and frustrations at the same time.

Taking it Saturday to dealer to have it looked at. It had 14 miles when I bought it which seems high to me especially since I had a deposit on it so it was a sold unit. Even to go fuel it should be 5 miles tops. Hopefully it is something simple. I’m not having a brand new Jeep that has had motor work done. Ugh.
Mine had 14 miles on it when I picked it up to. Hydro Blue. Nobody touched it, except for dealer prep. I was paranoid about 14 miles on it, messaged Scott Blum the Jeep guy, he said thats normal. They drive them at Jeep, also before shipping.

Picked up jeep today. Changed the oil and had them look at the smoke issue. The response, “no problems found, normal operation.” No idea what they did to troubleshoot. Thinking of calling the service manager to see. I guess I will wait for it to happen again and take it back.

It was overfilled. I bet it won’t smoke excessively with the correct oil level in the crankcase. They did nothing to diagnose it because they’re a dealer and they largely don’t care

Have a ‘24 392 bought new. Sometime during the first couple hundred miles I got a pretty good bit of smoke during start up. Hoong it was a fluke I just ignored it. Today at 550 miles I got another good bit of smoke at startup. 5 minutes later while cruising around 30 it smoked again. Another 5 minutes later it smoked again while taking off from a stop light. These are not just light puffs, it is a good bit. It appears to be whitish blue. Has anyone had anything similar? Break in was by the book. Thanks.
MINE HAS 30K MILES AND LAST TIME WHEN I REMOTE STARTED IT SMOKED FOR A COUPLE SECONDS, IT HASN'T SMOKE SINCE.

THEY ALWAYS EITHER UNDERFILL OR OVER FILL, WHATS THEIR PROBLEM?

A little smoke at startup when it’s cold is normal condensation. Constant smoking with an oil smell isn’t normal. He pulled the dipstick and saw it was overfilled from the factory. I bet with the oil change / correct level he’s good to go.

They drove it for a few minutes, didn't see any smoke and called it good. If you had photos or video of the smoke, that might spur further diagnostic work, but at a dealer, probably not. Good chance its due to the overfill on the oil.

To really make sure there isn't any blow by or other worse issue, a compression test on each cylinder would be the way to go. It could also be a defective oil seal, but I'd call that pretty unlikely.

Now that you have new oil, drive it, keep your camera handy and hope for the best.

Had similar issue. As mentioned previously, a small amount of smoke at startup, maybe once every twenty starts or so.
However, Never smoke while driving.

I occasionally get steam out from the grille when the thermostat opens first time in the day, looks like coolant leak but would be just condensation during the night. It's even written in the manual.

Keep us posted!
Also, what is the ideal "break in process?"
Ooh boy ... you opened a can o worms...lol
I followed the procedure very closely and dropped the oil at 1701 miles. I sent a sample to the lab to get a baseline and start building the trends for my engine. Report attached also.

Below is the link to the thread that will answer your question.

Brought mine home 60 minute drive, 2 lane roads, no highway. All was fine. Took my daughter to school next day (3 miles) and after I watched her go into the building noticed white smoke coming from the grill. I was like...$#!+ nooooooo!

Opened the hood, was more like steam and volume was like if someone was puffing a cigar. Let it stop with engine off, restarted engine, did it again. I recorded it, checked for drips or leaks (nothing on the ground or visible looking into the engine bay). Drove the 3 miles home and did closer inspection. Coolant looked fine then and after cooldown...no wetness under the engine or on the floor.

Has never done it since. Been 4000 miles in a bit over a year. I figured it was coolant overfill. Checked my oil level, adjusted my tire pressure, pushed in my fuses, considered myself lucky.

Glad to know I’m not alone. When I first discovered it in the winter, it happened at the same traffic stop, that’s when the thermostat opens. Then I didn’t see the steam very often since the temperature got colder, because the jeep is running when the thermostat opens. I believe it’s harmless just a little embarrassing.
