Initial oil change—TWELVE quarts!

Check your factory oil y’all.
Thankfully I changed mine very early (704 miles on odo)

I’ve had earlier model 392s and always drained 7-7.5ish…. This time 12 quarts!!

I wonder how many 2024s are overfilled… I’d imagine most don’t check, they just take it to dealer where they simply dump it and replace w 7.5 qts.

Per usual w my other jeeps, I drained mine into a 30 quart Rubbermaid, and then back into the empty 8 (7.5) qts.
After getting to my 7th quart I knew something was wrong as I still had 5 quarts of oil to dump into original containers, but only one more empty container.
With the 7 quarts filled with from factory drain, I measured the remaining factory oil by putting into a large rubber oil drain pan.

That’s your answer. Unbelievable how that could happen. They put the least qualified person in charge of that job apparently.

Our jeep has 7200 miles now I just did my 3rd oil change second air filter 1st cabin filter
R&R front and rear differential oil. I will probably be 1 of the few who doesn’t use any of the three free oil changes. Diff oil was clean just fine like graphite on fill plug magnet. Lots of money but I sleep better

My buddy took his 21 392 to a quick oil change place told the guy some of these jeeps take 7 quarts some take 7.5 quarts please check. So my friend watched. And the guy dumps in the oil and slams the hood down fires up the jeep and pulls it out to the parking lot a says it’s ready. He never even pulled out the dipstick. Unbelievable that’s why I do my own. It’s not worth $300 dollars of “free oil changes “ my 2cents

Just curious as to what it was reading on the actual dipstick “BEFORE” you changed the oil as this sounds insane and really bad for the vehicle at ANY mileage - Also extremely curious as to your “OIL PSI” readings before the oil change during your break in mileage with this much oil in the engine

What oil are you guys running that are doing your own oil changes?

As far as I know the Pennzoil is the only oil that is officially certified to meet the standards for our engine. Some others (Amsoil?) claim to meet the standards, but I'm not sure they are actually "certified". Probably not a big deal unless your motor comes apart and needs warranty replacement.

I've just been getting it from Amazon.

Checked dipstick once around 400 miles on ODO, and it appeared clean and at “full” mark.

PSI was always in normal operating range—Nothing was of concern on EVIC/OR Pages

Agreed - That would have me extremely concerned about the longevity of the motor moving forward (At any mileage) Especially since it was run with this “massive” overfill at the factory and during the most critical break-in phase of the motor - Its mind boggling to me that the Oil PSI did not reflect ANY abnormal fluctuations of pressure during the 700+ miles of break-in

What’s crazy is 95% of oil changes likely aren’t measuring out what was drained.

As I mentioned, many simply take to dealer to utilize their free wave program, or a quick lube, where they simply drain the oil, and add the recommended 7.5 quarts. All unaware of a factory overfill issue. (And some running up to 5k miles on initial factory fill)
Again, thankfully it was done w 700 miles, and all the miles were basically backroads and short trips (700 miles in 2+ months of ownership)

I’ll send a sample off to be analyzed, I’ll also send off a sample of my 2nd oil change (at 4k miles) to be analyzed and report back.

In addition, I’ll log the event w Jeep.

My intentions with this post:
To encourage others to be extra diligent early on, and check that first drain—Surely my 392 isn’t the only one…

It’s a good habit to get into, this way, at a minimum, you can monitor if it’s short of your last fill; your vehicle could be burning oil (or has an unknown leak).
