New 392 FE 170 Miles Suspected Transmission Oil Leak

Thanks all for the replies...I am going to drive for a bit as a replacement trans could take a few weeks. I was hoping more out there would chime in with their experiences and maybe i'll feel better about dropping 100K on something that leaks, at least temporarily...
Not acceptable. Jeep needs to drive these vehicles into the ground and fix all common problems. We take these vehicles to remote areas where we could be left hanging not cool Jeep.test your products get them working properly stop changing stuff every 6 months. Run one model for 5-6 years . Do R&D on new stuff in the meantime.

My 2022 392 had the same leak. I took it to the dealer and they said they would need to pull transmission etc to figure out where it was coming from. Another Jeep forum member said his did the same thing when new, then just stopped. I decided to give mine a chance and after about 1,500 miles it never leaked again. I just bought a 2024 a few weeks ago, crawled under it and sure enough there was the fluid. It now has just over 1K miles and is dry as a bone.
I also have a 2022 that had the same leak. It's also dry as a bone now. No idea why.

Checked my '24 yesterday, 4000k miles and dry.

did it originally have a leak?, or you never noticed?
FWIW - My '24 has always been dry and now has 2k mi.

Not sure that helps but another data point for consideration.

No leaks of any kind on my 2024 392. Probably because I took the time to properly break it in. She saw a 100 MPH before getting home ,and several times there after. A trip to the local drag strip, with less than a thousand miles, helped to seat everything properly. Absolutely no intention to do any oil analysis what so ever. Drive it like you stole it and it'll last forever . Baby it and she'll BLOW!

Yeah this has nothing to do with a breaking in…its from new….congrats on not having this issue

I'm at 2869, driven hard, driven soft, driven 1100 miles on a beach trip (round trip 550 each way) and its still coming back.

Ordered some fluid to check and put in if needed.

Sorry for your trouble, but thank you for sharing your journey. Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of everything and be off and running soon.

UPDATE*** So, after removing the Transmission, replacing the rear Main Seal, it was still leaking. Then Star and the Dealer Technician decided that the Transmission Torque Converter Seam Weld was leaking, and the fluid dripping was actually Transmission Fluid and not Engine Oil as the ZF Transmission Fluid is about the same color as Engine Oil and not Red like normal Transmission Fluid..

They again removed the Transmission, and replaced the Torque Converter and Front Transmission Seal, and its still leaking...WHAT???

So now Star is replacing the whole Transmission Assembly with a new unit next week.

The Bad News... The dealer had gotten in three new 392 FE's yesterday and 2 of the 3 has the SAME TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK.. No way right? WAY...

I will post a picture of what it looks like...Its a drip that is just to the rear of the oil pan drain plug hanging off of the lug of the bell housing on the passenger side... It is a Dynamic leak, (when vehicle is driven) and not a Static leak, (when the vehicle is parked and off).

If you own a new 392, better take a look because this appears to be a thing...
My 392 "Final Edition" 2024 delivered in August. At 725 miles we noticed the exact same leak. So went online and found the 392 forum ! Thank You !! So yesterday took some pictures and they are the same as your posted pics. Not sure if we should just monitor (as other say may fix itself) or take to dealer. Just a bummer as you never want them taking all apart and reinstalling etc... Thanks for this info and we will update .. We wiped it all clean to see if the fluid returns - It seems to reappear only after driving and not just sitting.

So after Transmission coming out three times, rear main, Torque Converter and pump seal, and then finally a new Transmission, the results were the same. I will say however, that the leak I had was never that much fluid. I would wipe off and monitor at this point as it seems to be ALL of the later 2024s even though not many acknowledged it, know about it, or just don't care...

I have now driven about 700 miles since the Transmission replacement and the leak seems to be getting better, sometimes hundreds of miles without a trace. The latest was a small drop about a week ago, nothing since. Unsure at this point, but I will drive it for a while and keep this post updated.

I will add this, because of the issue, Jeep has made me whole in a sense that I am not allowed to legally discuss. If I were you, I would contact Jeep cares and open a case. I can say that I won't have to worry about anything on this jeep for the next 8 years if you know what I mean plus there was some "pain and suffering" that was also addressed. They stepped up...

I'd bet 100 bux it's engine oil. That looks like pup to me! I own a shop and every bottle of zf I have poured has been green unless they changed something.

Tell the to smoke test the engine to be sure it's not leaking. A machine forces smoke into the crank case and smoke will come out if it has a leak. If it's a leak in the oil pressure system then the smoke won't get in there, but back of oil pan or rear main seal it will. Also I have seen rear main seals leak one after another and what happens is on the OUTSIDE of the seal where it presses into the block there sometime can be a small scratch or casting flaw that can cause seal to leak there. I have fixed many through the years just by applying a small amount of sealer on the OUTSIDE of the seal where it installs into the block. Been doing this stuff for 36 years. I feel bad you are dealing with this, I could find the leak I promise you that!
