More driving impressions..... for those still waiting.

Yup... still waiting... even from the '21 - but to be fair, as that fell apart, I ordered another ('22) on October 8th.
We tried to make a order back in November of 2020, the first week they opened up for the 392. It was nearly July when we finally got ours... ultimately it was worth the wait.

I thought my 5 month wait was long...

Talking about salt in the wound, I'm sure asking you about is like making you chew the fat......
Why did the 21 fall apart? My dealer had no allocation and mine on 8/13 still went through and even though I thought I got a raw deal waiting for 5 months, I see it was not that bad.

Just hang in there, will be worth it in the end and you'll forget about the wait.

Man it must be right around the corner! You're almost there!

I just got a VIN this morning from Jeep Chat, so that's where I'M at... I'll take the small victory. It feels like a huge step!

When you are ready for more fun, consider the Livernois tune. I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until this last week when I had to put it back to "stock" to take it to the dealer. The midrange power is 10x better with the tune, and the LAZY gear shifts in stock mode are terrible too. LOL

Do you know if these tuning mods impact the vehicle warranty?

The 392 is definitely king of the Wranglers. Enjoy it and be proud of it. I've had mine since late December and have almost 400 miles on it now. It's hard because the break-in period instructions force you to drive it slow and easy. After it gets to 500 miles though, I'm ready to let it rip.
One bit of advice- casually tell your neighbors about your new Jeep if they live close by. When you start up the beast, it will sound very throaty and loud. Your neighbors will hear it if they live close and might think you're showing off even though it's just the normal sound ha ha ha.
Regarding driving it, I never owned a Jeep Wrangler before so at first I had to get used to the way it drives and handles. I have the XR package. You sit up high and feel like you own the road. But after a few days on the road, you don't even notice the difference in handling. It drives very well.
Because of the gas guzzling engine and off-road suspension, I wouldn't consider it a long trip highway cruiser. You could certainly do that and take it on long trips, but you'll make frequent stops at the gas station and it won't take rather sharp corners safely at high speed like a normal IFS SUV. Honestly the biggest driving difference to me from the Honda Pilot I previously owned was staying focused and conscious of the Jeep fenders with the XR package fender flairs. When you're in heavy traffic or just pulling in a tight garage, you have to be aware of where those fenders are. The sides of the Wrangler aren't flat like most SUV's, those fenders stick out. So I would say that is the biggest difference in driving it so far.
Congrats on your new beast and you will absolutely love it!! You're one of the lucky few!

Do you know if these tuning mods impact the vehicle warranty?
This? I've heard that the tunes trigger a P1400 code that shows the car has been messed with and when that code shows up that a regional manager from stellantis has to approve any major powertrain warranty work. I was going to get livernois but worried about losing the warranty. If it really makes things better, I would consider it, although I think things are great as they are at the moment.

So at lunch, I took it out on a backroad outside of town and did the torque reserve launch. Push brake pedal firmly and rolled into the gas. Not sure that I heard engine change tone. Further I mashed the gas, the higher the rpms went. I didn't have a ton of time as place was not deserted. Had to mash brake harder to keep jeep from moving. As some point, I let off the brake and floored it. Took off like a bat out of he11. Rear tires chirped and spun a little leaving 2 short black streaks (maybe 1-2 ft long). The rest of the trip to 60 was the usual chaos and race car sounds. This thing really does launch hard. Going to have to play with it some more.

For folks that have done torque reserve, how is it supposed to work? Can you mash gas all the way to the floor while holding the brake and then just let off the brake to release the beast or can you only mash pedal part way down and then have to let off brake and floor the gas at the same time?

Also tried offroad +. This is a hoot. Raises shift points and holds jeep in the lower gears. Had to let off gas completely to get into 8th gear on highway. Downshifts more aggressively. Seems to prevent 4cyl deactivation all together. Around town is where this was really fun. Going down main street accelerating to 25mph, gas pedal seemed more sensitive and held in lower gears so engine revved higher and was louder. Also accelerated to 25mph quicker than it would have in regular mode for the amount of throttle input I was giving it. When I let off the gas is where the craziness ensued. It stayed in the gear it was in and didn't upshift like it normally would when you let off the gas. Instead I got mild engine compression braking (maybe spinning 2k or 2.5k rpm) and as vehicle slowed the exhaust was popping and burbling almost continuously as I decelerated. It was actually to the point that I was embarrassed. I mean people normally have to modify vehicles in all kinds of ways to make them do stuff like this. The popping and burbling was not very loud, but I know the people on the street had to hear it.

Probably poor form for the town doctor to be cutting up on main street, but the cool thing about the jeep is you can make all these noises without doing anything really dangerous. In the case of the main street acceleration and deceleration, I didn't even break the speed limit.

The sounds and behavior of the vehicle are so wild that it will put a grin on my face that I just can't wipe off. It's so hard not to be a hooligan when driving this thing...

Yup! That's what I did (11/20/20 to be exact.) Never received it in July when I thought I was finally going see it finally show up, only to find the dealer ultimately sold it as "stock" with $20k ADM to someone else. Then they played games with me pushing me back because they were out of "allotment" for 21's. Finally accepted I wasn't ever going to get a '21 so I went to a different dealer and arranged it so that they would submit my order as a '22 the day the banks opened (this was now Sept.) So overall, been pushing 15 months of me trying to get one.

Doing the torque launch….mash the brake down, rev the engine to about 3000-3500 rpm’s and hold for a few seconds. You should hear a distinct change in the engine sound, the sound deepens in my opinion. Then hold on to your beer and let it rip!

I've heard of dealers doing that. I was worried about my dealer trying to pull some crap because they easily could have sold it with a mark up and made some extra money, but they did my right and just charged msrp as we discussed when i ordered it.

Do you know if these tuning mods impact the vehicle warranty?
Just like ANY other mod you do, if the dealer can show THAT was the cause of the failure, they will not cover it. So with the tune, if the motor blows up, they most likely won't cover it. However, if with the tune, your door falls off while driving down the road, they would still have to warranty that.

I think a lot of times it comes down to the dealer and how well they know you, regarding how you treat your vehicles. I installed the Oracle rear LED backup lights. That ties into the tail lights. If a tail light fails, I'm pretty sure my dealer would replace it under warranty... BUT they could deny it because I "modified" their use.

@hardhat is Doc Brown CONFIRMED :ROFLMAO:

This thing is an absolute monster. I got up to 500 miles today and according to the break in can do some brief full throttle runs. Rolling into the throttle as you are turning out, it feels like you need to be careful. I have only applied full t.hrottle while going in a straight line. It rips through the gears and really does sound like a race car. Shifts are reasonably firm and fast. Going straight and flooring it from 30mph, the front end lifts, rear squats, feels a little squirrely. 70 mph arrives in a flash. Can't stay in the pedal for long. This is the first vehicle (and I can't believe I am saying this......) that I have owned that has enough power. I've always wanted more in my mustangs. even superchargers and turbos were not enough. Wanted to tune my mercedes s65 as if that thing needed more power. Those can be had for cheap, but heaven forbid if anything breaks.

The 392 feels like it has enough power. Squeezing the pedal unleashes an avalanche of torque at low rpm and it rips all the way to redline. Feels like a pretty flat torque curve to me. I'll report back in a couple months as I get used to it and may find myself longing for more, but not right now. It is so hard to drive this thing slow. When cruising, my foot is barely in the gas pedal. Feels like only pushing it down 1/4" or less to go 50 mph, but it is not super sensitive and easy to modulate. No jack rabbit starts if you are trying to take off normally. Maybe throttle is calibrated to be more sensitive the faster you are going. Will do some more research on this.

For pedal commander owners, does the increased sensitivity of the pedal, make it even harder to drive at low to moderate speeds at stead state? At this point, I see no need for a pedal commander and am enjoying part throttle pulls immensely. It feels so muscular. The broad shouldered torque curve just makes it feel like it has bottomless reserves of power.

When out of the gas, it is reasonable quiet even in performance mode. I'm thinking the people that complained about drone are noticing the sound change when it goes to 4cyl. This does not bother me, although at light throttle going up and down hills, it will go in and out of 4cyl more than seems necessary and even the slightest throttle application will knock if out of 4 cyl if you are going over 50 or so. At higher speeds, only goes into 4cyl when totally off throttle like when going downhill or backing off throttle because you are tailgating someone. So far, my only real complaint is that when driving around other cars, especially at a steady speed on 40-60mph speed limit roads, it feels like you are going super slow. Foot is barely touching pedal and I'm constantly creeping up on cars in front of me. Adaptive cruise works well. Averaged 13.7mpg so far which is only 1 mpg less than my 2013 JKUR on 37s

Most awesome vehicle I have owned.. Hands down. This thing is made to have fun. I doubt I will do much offroading in it. I think a jeep with more lift, bigger tires and lighter engine would probably be better. I've never really needed more power than the 3.6 had to offer when offroad. May be good for dune running but I've never done that. For rock crawling, the extra power seems unnecessary to me. On road is where the power shines. The nice thing is that if you get in a pinch you have the ability to go offroad. Was thinking about lift and bigger tires, but the 35s look big enough to me with factory lift and I'm happy with the ride. Don't want to change driveshafts.

I know there are people that will do al the things and turn it into an offroad beast, but I'm liking the on road too much to mess that up. May get another jeep down the road to beat up in the rocks.

Hang in there. The time will go by and one day you will get the call. Totally worth the wait and the huge chunk of change. Puts a smile on my face every time I start it, every time I ease into the throttle and every time I pass somebody. I am so anxious to put a hurting on some people at stop lights. They won't know what hit them, but I live out in the country so that will have to wait for a trip to the city probably.
Great post, thanks. As to the pedal commander, it makes a big difference off the line. I have mine set at sport 3. It took me a while to get used to its sensitivity but it's great and fools a lot of people at traffic light drags. Of course, the vehicle is great without the pedal commander. Next step is a torque reserve start. The car is an absolute hoot and was worth the 5 1/2 month wait.

I figured out torque reserve start yesterday. Absolute blast. Most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned

Best I can do to explain this thing: I bought a brand new escalade (platinum) the same week I got the jeep. I also have a BMW M3 and a Land Rover LR4 and my wife and I find ourselves fighting over the keys to the 392. It’s just fun.
This is very encouraging! I think we have been on some of the same forms before (Among others, I have had a 2020 BMW M5C, ZL1 Camaro, Vipers, etc.). Definitely looking forward to the arrival of my 392 XR, as well as a '22 GT 500.

As with all mods, modify at your own risk.

ha... yep probably from M5 forums at BP. You'll love the XR.

I frequently downshift with the paddles just to hear the burbles. I get my jollies and increase brake pad life. Makes me very happy. 😁

I did it all myself. The hardest part was removing the PCM to send to them and then putting it back in. LOL
