Jeep Wrangler 392 Oil Filter

I used Mopar Oil Filter 5038041AA with my 392. It is larger than the regular black filter that came with the jeep.
As the first 3 oil changes is free with the Wave Program, the dealership charged $4 more to use this filter vs the same black filter the Jeep originally came with. I did have to bring it to their attention though, that I wanted the SRT filter. Their parts guy validated that this filter would work.
You can buy it from Amazon.

Just to be clear, it is recommended to use the Pennzoil 0W-40; however, it is the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 that is to be used. :)

Once I've used up my remaining free oil changes I'll be changing the oil myself (using these items) when I'm allowed to have my man cave time ;)
Sorry, but I’m a diehard Mobi 1 guy.
Been using Mobil 1 since my first car at 15 years old.
I had a 1999 Toyota Supra Turbo overheat in the middle of nowhere in June for 25 miles when we lived in Missouri. Turbo was so hot and glowing red.My daughter was with me and she couldn’t believe how hot it was. I let it cool own to put more water in the radiator and drve it straight home. It had only barely two tubes flowing antifreeze according to the radiator shop. The guy asked if my engine seized up. Nope.
I put in a new radiator and the Supra ran great. Mobil 1 saved my engine and turbo. i’m still shocked to this day that car still ran so well.

I used to use Mobil 1 for years, I was die hard as well. Then one day I noticed a little ticking coming from the engine and some small leaks forming around the seals at around 185k miles (a 2000 Kia Sportage). I called my buddy, a heavy equipment mechanic & 18 wheel long-haul driver. He suggested I switch to Lucas. I did. Immediately the ticking stopped & the seals were 'rejuvenated' with no more leaking. I have ~220k miles on that vehicle now and she's still running strong (for a 4 banger).
I've NEVER been a Pennzoil fan!!! Maybe things have gotten better now, but back in the day it used to foam up and leave residue all over the engine's internals. (I'm 50 years old now) Course in those days there wasn't synthetic oils. Again, the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (synthetic) may be a great oil, I just got turned off as a kid then ultimately switched to Mobil 1.

I'm only using the Pennzoil now as that's what Jeep Wave offers. Once them 3 changes expire I'm back to Lucas. I did swap to Lucas in my differentials.

I’m almost 60 and still don’t plan to retire anytime soon.
All oils do there job and to each his own. No ticking issues with my 5.7 in my truck. I drive it hard and it runs very smooth.

I have a couple of questions, does the plastic surrond/drip directional thing-a-ma-jig around the oil filter mount/adapter work with the 5038041AA and the SRT oil filters or does it need to be removed? Also, what is the oil pressure at operational speeds on your 392 with the either 5038041AA or SRT filters? One more, how close does the control arm link come the the larger oil filters?

It can stay in place

I used MO-899, which is the same diameter as the 041. It fits well with using the cap style oil wrench. I can still put a finger there between the plastic drain guard and the new filter.

Oil pressure since has been 53-60 on highway 70+ mph and 30 on idle.

Hello There.
Yes, the oil drip mount/adapter can remain in place for the filter. (The 5038041AA and the SRT filter are both the same, 5038041AA is the SRT's part number.)
I'm usually around 53 psi at operation speeds.
Unsure how close the control arm is, but I know nothing is hitting/rubbing.

One Jeep 392 Owner damaged the White Mopar "SRT" 5038041AA as the Jeep 392 engine roll caused it to contact suspension, but several are stating they have never had the issue and have made many oil changes, so I am going to assume the guy that had contact issues has an aftermarket suspension and/or parts and it is causing the issue of the SRT Filter making contact with his frame....

I've been using the MO-899 for 3 oil changes, so far so good.

I was just reading about the engine roll issue with the SRT filter on Facebook. The 899 is NOT significantly shorter than the 041.

Agreed, wonder how he damaged the SRT? He said engine roll?
Yes, during acceleration and deceleration. Scott Blum is apparently one of the lead guys with Jeep on the 392.

Really glad to learn these things ahead of time, these forums are a God send for so many folks!

When I got my Jeep I drove the initial 500 miles and switched to the 041AA SRT filters. I have some some pretty good wheelin and a lot of hard stop and go fun. I have not damaged a filter. I have changes the oil 6 times in my rig. Fixin to do the 7th. This is the same filter I use on my hellcat too. So, keeping a few on the shelf in the garage is a good thing. As described by our local service manager, the 339 and 899 were described as "acceptable but not optimal." The 339 is the only one that JeepWave and any service package will authorize. I just stick to doing my own. As far as oils, I have just been using the Penzoil 0w-40 as to not give an excuse for disregarding any potential warranty work. Once I am out of warranty, this may change to a different oil. This engine definitely loves an oil change though. You can hear the difference.

Magnuson act prohibits a manufacturer from voiding a warranty due to a different brand of oil. Also, I think the filter type is dependent on the dealer. I’ve had 2 Jeep wave oil changes. The first, they used the 899. The 2nd, they used the 041 (SRT) Pennsludge both times.

I did not realize there was a law for it. Either way, my local dealer, who I have purchase 4 SRT vehicles through, does not carry the SRT filters. They do not stock them in parts and wont use them for oil changes even if I provide them. Their sales department is spot on but their service is absolute garbage.
