Exhaust Drone

Yenori,

I have connected with Jeep Cares and did not get a resolution. I originally reached out to you on this forum. I sent you the requested information you asked for, which included the future date of my service appointment. It took over two weeks for my vehicle to be seen by a tech at the dealership. Which was a good thing for Jeep Cares because that gave them the time to finally have my vehicle assigned to a Jeep Cares rep. The dealer tech gave his insight (normal for vehicle) but no other resolution was offered by Jeep Cares. The rep has not followed up with me. While at the dealership I wanted several concerns addressed. The dealer addressed 2 of the 5 concerns.
1. They fixed my Off road pages that weren’t opening. (Fixed)
2. Valve cover paint peeling, They are ordering replacements to be installed. (Dealer is call when parts are in)
3. Drone noise when decelerating. (Dealer says Normal for vehicle.)
4. Aux switches have been unavailable for days. (The dealer has tested the battery and it is good. )
5. I have noticed the Hemi tick getting louder so I asked for a professional opinion as to whether it was detrimental. (Dealer says three different listened and said it is normal for the vehicle.)

From my experience I asked for Jeep Cares assistance on the drone issue and would have thought since they were involved they would have looked at all the items of concern but I have not heard back on any.
@ Jeep Cares

Yenori, Hannah, et. al,
Here you have an American Customer seeking your help, and the forum members are watching you do nothing to help this person. First you explain there is nothing you can do to help the Canadian customer base. So, why is this US customer also being ignored?

Why are you continually avoiding our requests to provide a Transparent Solution on the forum about this Drone Problem (among other issues)?

What is your excuse now?? I believe the forum members would agree how Jeep Cares is handling this is Unacceptable.

And there you have it. Some with no drone (thankfully), and some with horrific drone.

The drone therefore cannot be characteristic of the vehicle, not matter what Jeep says.
With exhaust valves closed, extremely quiet. And with them open I can hear the exhaust but no obnoxious drone on the highway.

Hi Canadian 392 / Team. A quick update form my side.
  • I have messaged and followed up with the Jeep executives (via Linkedin) to no avail. Bob Broderdorf did connect with me but exchanged no content so far. I choose to hope they take their time with their teams to figure it out before replying.
  • ZAutomotive is an awesome company (more on this at another time)
  • I have written to the aforementioned gurus/influencers for advice and support. Let's see
Hi MaLuco,
Any replies from Bob Broderdorf or others?
Please let us know 🤝

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2024 392 with this drone issue from about 1500-2000 RPM, whether it's light throttle in this range, and especially on deceleration, regardless of having Offroad + on or off. A low range very loud deep boominess between 45-70Hz. This Occurs with sport exhaust on or off, but a little less with sport exhaust turned off. This drone can actually be painful.

It is not the active noise cancellation. I have disconnected the mics in the roll bar, and disconnected the subwoofer, and even pulled the fuse to the stereo to rule out the active noise cancellation. Makes no difference, the drone is still there.

Supposed "no drone" exhausts from AWE and Borla Atak and S-type do NOT improve this problem.

Dynamat/Dynapad does nothing.

The pre-2024 model years do not appear to have this problem, or at least not nearly as often. Apparently, some 2024 models do not have this issue, which leads to me to believe there a problem with our examples which exhibit this really bad drone problem.

I believe there must be some type of engineering changes, whether they be acoustically with the exhaust, or some type of computer calibration etc.

I think this needs to be taken up with Jeep corporate.

Jeep must be accumulating data on this since it's becoming a wide-spread problem for the 2024 model year.

It appears not all 2024 392 have this problem, but for the many unfortunate ones that do, it's a really big problem.

This thread, and similar "exhaust boominess" threads are prevalent on the "other" Forum as well (I am not sure if the rules allow us to link other related forum websites).
Has anyone communicated with Jeep?

Has anyone resolved this issue?
Hi, I know that this item I am about to mention costs $s but Borla makes an exhaust
That removes the drone sound. It is custome for the 392 Rubicon. I do not know anyone that has one on their Jeep. It is louder than the factory exhaust according to their website.

Sometimes it's the arrow and sometimes it's the indian, if you know what I mean... 🍻

Do you have a link to this item? 👍

Just curious...

Has anyone personally heard the difference between a "non-drone" JL 392 and a "drone" JL 392?

Yes.
I test drove a 2023 392 for about 30min, and it did not have the drone my 2024 has. I would not have purchased mine if the 2023 exhibited that drone at low RPM between about 1500-1900 RPM, especially during deceleration.

The 2023 had the expected exhaust notes and sounds of a V8, without that cabin filling loud drone.

So glad I picked up a 23'.

HI AUSTX,
Is your 392 affected by the drone problem?
I guess not and I do have the hard top. I did change to the MagnaFlow Street Series exhaust, but it wasn't because of any excess drone.

Just curious...

Hey @AUSTX,

I've lived with both. My '22 XR (built late '22 model year) had no drove, just Hemi exhaust goodness.
My '24 Final Edition has the drone. Not too too bad in quiet mode, more apparent in loud mode and actually can be headache inducing and tiring on long drives, at minimum it's annoying/distracting on shorter drives.

I love the updated features on the '24 and it felt "tighter", steered better than my '22. The drone seems to be worse now as the exhaust gets a few miles on it (we're talking around 1000 miles). I don't understand it as I haven't experienced ths on a factory exhaust...ever...and I've owned over 40 cars/trucks, many of them high performance vehicles.
