Emergency

That sucks. My question is: how did they steal it? Did you leave the key in it? I am under the impression that if the key is more than about 50' from the Jeep, it will turn off.
Unfortunately, once the Jeep is started a key is no longer required. It will run until it runs out of fuel.

It's only been a day or two since the vehicle was stolen and it feels like forever. I don't know how they got away and the police mentioned that they were going 160 or 170 but I thought the Rubicon 392 XR top speed was limited to around 110 or so that doesn't make sense and the officer mentioned that the top speed on their Tahoe squad car is about 120 so it should have been able to keep up and they said the DPS chopper was a couple minutes late from another job so that's how they missed it because the stolen vehicle faded away after exiting the highway aka the tollway 121 Sam Rayburn. Sometimes I feel I should have ignored the dispatcher and continued pursuing until the DPS chopper or additional squad cars could set up a better plan to have or buy a few more minutes for them. I just didn't feel like driving crazy reckless like the thief so I just thought of giving up since I had to preserve myself/public safety and the other vehicle I was in along with following the 911 dispatcher's demands.

No need to put yourself or uninvolved parties in danger on a chase. It's just a vehicle and just money. Both can be replaced.

Oh man Bald Guy...so sorry to read this.

You are one of my favorite characters here on the forum. Glad you and your family are safe.

It is crazy how quickly they can steal these cars. I worry about it as I know they love to steal Chargers/Challengers and SRT GCs here in Chicago. Fortunately, Wrangler 392s are not as well known so don't seem to be targeted as much.

I stopped parking mine on the street when I can avoid it.

Just put some 4E stickers on it and it won't be touched.

Wow, this totally sucks! I'd be a wreck until it is found. Sorry man.

I have a hidden kill switch installed and locking hood latches. Does putting a lock over/around the OBD port help?

From what I've heard, they are tapping in to the star connector ports behind the glovebox.

Is the 392 somehow easier / more susceptible to being stolen? Or, is it that it is more desired as something to steal?

What do the maggots do when they tap into that, and is there a way to prevent them from tapping in?

Has anyone heard of a vehicle being stolen (in recent years) that has used "The Club" or that thing with the 2 hooked ends that hooks the steering wheel to the brake pedal Yes they can hacksaw through it, but with today's more "sophisticated" theft methods, are the thief maggots really even carrying hack saws these days? Maybe simple is better here?

I mean, if someone really wants something, they'll take it by any means necessary. As most people have said, it's all about deterrence at the end of the day. My area has frequent break-ins, my vehicles have been hit twice. One vehicle cost more to repair the window than the total of what was stolen, the other was already unlocked so it was ransacked with random stuff taken. I just got my faraday pouches that I am using now. Spare is one and my daily is in the other while I'm home. Thinking of getting the club just as deterrence.

So I was updated by the detective that these are professional thieves that do this repeatedly and the suspect they arrested and seized with the 2020 black Jeep Wrangler got arrested 3 months ago for stealing vehicles and he started doing it again of course. Now they're trying to track and trace the other suspect with my vehicle at this time. Their vehicle ('20 black 4 door wrangler with aftermarket black/red wheels) that they used for stealing had a lot of proof that they do this full-time with all the equipment and tools they have in the vehicle and plus I got confirmation that they hide and cover their license plate on their vehicle so that it's not spotted by camera.

As-is proof that those really wanting something will be prepared to take it. Sh*t man, so sorry you're going through this. I empathize. Hang in there.

The 392 isn't any easier to steal, it's just more desirable. I've thought about building a shield over the star connector but haven't yet. On the thefts I've read about, they break a rear window to enter the Jeep. Once inside, they connect a computer to the star connector, delete all the original keys and program a new key that they have. At that point they just start the jeep and drive off. They also disable the Uconnect so that you can't track the Jeep. IGLA and Tazer can both require a PIN to be entered before starting the Jeep with a key, but there's downsides to both. I Installed a Compustar alarm with a glass breakage sensor on mine so that if someone breaks in, the alarm will sound and hopefully scare them away. The alarm also notifies my phone and has its own GPS locator with a battery backup.

As Winston mentioned, a faraday pouch will protect you if they attempt a relay attack.

For those w Compustar, what does the full package w best components cost? I assume approx $1000 + ongoing subscription fees?(website does not seem to have price info)
